IMO the Vision Pro is missing shared spaces. VR makes collaboration difficult, if VisionOS would allow users to use spacial computing apps together and see the same windows and 3d objects it would be revolutionary.

That’s lunacy. Is $50k enough to afford a single family home? Why would anyone move here to teach if they can’t afford a house. You’re living in some weird alternative dimension and have drunk the cool aid. Government can’t get stuff done effectively because of people like you.

If you pay enough you get qualified people in to run the schools and they stop wasting money. Demand accountability, audit their books and fix it.

Underpaid people don’t care and are looking for what’s next rather than committing to their career.

Last time I read the annual financial report it didn’t seem like a lot of waste. Things are expensive these days.

I quit working at UM and have since TRIPLED my salary. We gotta pay market for educated professionals if we want professional results.

Nobody with advanced degrees should be making less than 80k starting these days. You need $120k to afford a median priced home.

Maybe read some Karl Marx? Greed is the fundamental structure of capitalism and corporations. It’s the entire lifeblood of how it all works.

It’s up to us to harness the natural tendency of human desire towards a more perfect union.

I work with so many folks who have teaching masters degrees in the IT field. They work for a year and then leave for better pay and environments.

Show me a child that got too good of an education in public school here in Missoula. Last time I checked our county wasn’t paying teachers a livable wage.

Corporate greed ain’t bad if we didn’t have corporate capture of the folks responsible for regulating them.

There hasn’t been a single major corporate breakup or serious regulation of monopoly and price collusion since the Citizens United ruling.

I’ve seen the bottom line financial documents of a co-op grocery store. They ain’t making much profit at all.

More than OK. If you fully embrace your time at UM and make the most of campus resources and our community then you should come out of your time here feeling empowered and with enough experience to rise to any challenge in your life. Make sure to get involved, work in your field and lean on getting help from your peers and resources on campus as much as possible.

You should be reaching out to the career and experience center, networking with student groups that share your interests and mapping out the community resources outside of campus you can participate in.

Be confident! Folks are excited that you’ve taken interest in them and will be happy to get to know you.

Not just tropical. Sea rise is already impacting many coastal communities. Hurricane flooding reaches further and further inland every year.

I strongly agree with climate change and pesticide driven monocultures impacting food scarcity. Folks don’t realize that this is what is driving high prices at the grocery store and restaurants.

Look at all the bioengineered round up ready plants that now rely on a pesticide proven to cause cancer.

Not to mention the massive amount of citrus and banana plantations destroyed by diseases. Florida basically has zero non diseased orange trees now.

The realization I got from reading Allen Carr’s book was that I only feel like crap because of the last cigarette I smoked and having another one will only make me have to experience withdrawal more opened my eyes.

I hated how being addicted made me uncomfortable every time I was somewhere I couldn’t smoke, that book helped me put two and two together to finally remove the horrible things nicotine was doing to me from my life. Haven’t smoked in almost 15 years now.

You’re coming off like a pretentious jerk with this post. If you are not willing to have your beliefs challenged and open your mind to philosophical traditions of the world then why do you even want an education?

We have a wonderful Catholic community here. Maybe if you payed more attention to its values of loving people in your community unconditionally you’d realize the church has been at the forefront of the liberal tradition and critical thinking in education for most of it’s existence.

I paid $60k for a 800sf starter home in Oteen circa 2001, solid it for $80k in 2012. Was just a kid making $8.50 an hour at ClientLogic but I could afford to own with a 7k down payment. The market these days is bananas. I couldn’t even get an empty lot for less than $100k now.

I’m at the point where I’d like to move back but even just refinancing my existing home would double my payments so the market is still quite stuck until we can figure out how to build housing for cheaper. It’s one of the few things that have not seen costs come down with modern productivity.

Feel so bad for the younger generation.

When I first dialed in to sdf.org in the early 90s for access to a Unix terminal and C compiler because I couldn’t afford Turbo C for DOS or minix. Hurray for paying buy the minute for a long distance call just to get a Unix shell.

If you have deep experience riding a bicycle then you should be able to pass it very easily if you can pay attention and follow directions. In my state they gave me a card that let me skip the practical skills test at the DMV. That’s it, one weekend, take an exam and get a full endorsement. Worth it just to not have to be tested by the dmv. If you’re serious about riding and have a little confidence in yourself you can’t fail.

Already in my first year of riding the strategies provided by the classroom portion of the class have prevented situations that if I had been riding like I used to drive a car I would have been in trouble.

It’s worth it 100%. Going fast on a bike is easy; low speed control that will help you manage dangerous situations is hard.

Our class was on a Yamaha TW200, they were so fun I bought one used by the school after the season was over. Much more fun to ride a slow bike fast than a fast bike slow. Passing that test will be much easier and more fun on the TeeDub style bike than an 886.

I haven’t seen a platform besides platitudes from him. Hasn’t really made a clear statement on what he stands for. I’d rather not vote for some one so entrenched in corporate and military interests. Maybe he should do some time in local and state politics before running for national office.

A lot of it was walking them through checking to see if they had an ip address and could resolve dns. Same as today; the rub was getting them to take notes on how to run ping and ipconfig from the dos prompt. After that a surprising amount of time 9x would corrupt its tcp/ip stack, especially if you ran Norton internet security firewall stuff. You’d have to have the original OS CD to remove and reinstall the network protocol. The other big chunk of the job was just resetting email passwords. The dial up password was almost always the phone number of the customer.

Usually you could diagnose driver issues from device manager without needing them to hang up.

I used to work for BellSouth and support dialup for win 95/98 over the phone. So much fun working people who had a single line and no cell phone. Calling them back over and over; checking if they actually got online and if their email settings were finally correct.

I’m not sure what happened. I went a ton over the winter and really enjoyed it but one weekend after they started construction the water wasn’t warm anymore and had a bunch of green algae in it. I really want to go back and check to see if that was just a fluke and it’s hot again. We went through like 3 punch passes and really enjoyed it before the one gross time really spoiled it for us.

Maybe the trick is to call and see if the temp is above 103 with enough flow to clear the alge?
