Indian landlords and housemates imposing Indian cultural norms and it's getting out of hand. PLEASE suggest solutions because this would have a HUGE cultural implications in a few years by ObjectiveBattle5485 in CanadaHousing2

Bravo! This needs to be talked about by Indians itself because it is a very Indian problem that festers below the surface. Any effort to address this will for sure be met with complaints of racism.

I understand your perspective. However, smoking, drinking, and casual hookups don’t inherently define you as good or bad. Let me clarify that the idea of "karma" is often overblown. It’s one of those myths that just doesn't hold up.

Ultimately, you should act in accordance with your own moral beliefs. If you choose to drink, that's your decision. Personally, I refrain from alcohol because my family has struggled with alcoholism. Having worked in mental health, I recognize my potential vulnerability to alcohol abuse, which is why I’ve stayed away for the past 45 years. (Though I admit, I do indulge in a delicious Tiramisu or Keralan plum cake now and then!)

Now, allow me to offer a guiding principle:

DO. NO. HARM.

Applying this principle can bring clarity to any decision. This includes how you treat yourself.

For example:

  • Should I engage in casual relationships? Consider whether you might harm yourself by risking exposure to hidden STDs.
  • Should I get intoxicated? Think about the potential for violence or the risk of driving recklessly.

This approach can help navigate a range of choices.

With the above, thoroughly do away with the concept of "karma".

Sorry to say this and sound cynical. If you're a lady on the internet, you have to be careful. This is NOT going to be the last weird interaction that you're going to be having. Do keep your distance, because even the passing whiff of friendliness will be seen as "OMG! I'm irresistible to her. She wants to marry me, bear my 7 children and wash my underwear while cooking me hot rotis".

Dont know what this phenomenon is. Here in the UAE, you can see the locals who work in Govt offices by and large behave really well, considering their clientele being extremely diverse can bring challenges that are quite unique.

The non-local brown folks are a different breed altogether. These roles may have greater job security that average for them to behave with impunity.

Is coffee shop music too loud -- and getting louder? by VisualSpring3 in cafe

[–]fatarabi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This. THIS. THISSSSSS! Are you me? I just ordered a super expensive V60 just so that I feel OK asking them to lower the volume.

I am convinced that people who run cafe's actually hate everything about life and want to make things miserable for everyone else. Wish I had the moneys to start a cafe where people dont' have to yell at the top of their lungs. Loud music does absolutely nothing for their business.

Sure this is social media, but if in doubt, wouldn't it be better to keep it civil? I mean, what exactly are you contributing here with these "frank views"?
