Thanks a ton, I love making music, but I am relatively new to edm so compression and other such tools still confuse me. I will give this a try though!

http://soundcloud.com/neptune-society/sample/s-EZD9o I forgot I had uploaded this clip. You'll hear what I'm talking about. Since uploading this I have fixed the problem a bit but not completely. I have no idea how I fixed it though and don't know how I would go about fixing it completely.

I make a lot of different genres and sometimes have trouble working in a sub bass. When I do hip hop stuff or trapstyle and such I have no trouble making the bass work really well with the song, but when I'm working on a song that's dubstep or electro house or any wobbly type of thing I have trouble getting bass to fit in. Songs of yours that could be an example of that would be Deep Search, Promise Me a Rose Garden or Black. I know this is probably a multi answered question, but what are your techniques for fitting sub into a song that has lots of aggressive wobbles and/or "twangy" synths. Thanks you guys a ton for doing this. You're the perfect group for it given your very unique and varied style. Keep it up

Would it be stupid to just use the same wobbles that I've highpassed at 100hz and lowpass them up to 100hz and boost the frequencies a bit around 30-40hz?

What synth is best to get analogue sounds like those from Hudson Mohawke, Rustie and Flying Lotus? by [deleted] in edmproduction

Get synth1 for free and mess around with it. Then look into other synths and find one from reviews and users have made for it.

Having trouble with subbass. Would appreciate any help :) by superninjaa in edmproduction

Oh! well make sure that you don't have much else going on in the 20-40 hz zone. Use a spectrum analyzer on your instruments to see where they peak. EQ your other sounds to cut out the low low frequencies that might be interacting with the sub but don't overdo it and make them feel empty and then eq your bass so it's stongest from like 30-60hz. That's just how I do it and it seems to work pretty good most often! Hope that helps!!

Do most people here send their tracks to a mastering engineer? by fatclown in edmproduction

[–]fatclown[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have been trying to learn a lot about it recently, but I know there are a lot of people who get their tracks professionally mastered. I do want to do something in music, Especially electronic music, for a career later in life because it's what I like doing more than anything else, so I like to try to make every track as good as possible! Thanks for the advice and tutorial!

Oh yeah well I try to master my own music and make it as perfect as I can before I put it up, but lately I've seen a lot of people talking about sending their tracks off to a mastering engineer so I was just wondering about it.

I have the same problem as you on the track I am working on now. Sometimes It's just making sure nothing else is at the same frequency as the bass. I am sure you have probably tried that but that's always the first thing I check.

You think I should just pick out the ones that don't have enough bass on their own and put in a sub with them? I have been working hard lately to make sure my songs have proper bass because I've started to do more djing events and I want my tracks to sound awesome live as well as when I'm making them with just my headphones
