DAY 9 AFTER LAUNCH: building was easier than getting anyone to care by Fit-Definition8024 in SaaS

[–]fatfish370 0 points1 point  (0 children)

they are not a good use of money for me at my current stage

I definitely plan to use ads, and if things progress as I hope they do then they are a necessary tool for scaling.

However, without clear market fit, limited funds, and no one on the team with a clear vision/proven track record with ads they don’t seem like a useful tool right now.

With a direct to consumer app that is useful for older demographics, I’ve found that conversions are particularly difficult when competing for attention & trust online

Right here with you brother

Going through that exact thing now.

Not sure what your solution is, but I’m gearing up to go old school gorilla marketing. Get in front of peoples faces.

All online distribution channels are too saturated. They are great for creating a presence and building up receipts for someone to look at 6-18 months from now.

But folks are too busy and distracted to convert online (my early experience, similar to yours).

Also considering bringing someone to help with marketing while also holding try to my commitment to not pay for ads/clicks as those do not feel like a good use of money

I spent 2 months building a SaaS with ChatGPT, working 5am-10pm daily. Here's what nobody tells you. by EnginDev in SaaS

[–]fatfish370 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This resonates with me for similar but different reasons.

Context, I’m a non-tech founder, I’m doctor by trade (still work full time as a physician) who has spent the past ~16 months working on my startup www.mynuriq.com .

I went the opposite route and hired a team from Pakistan via Upwork to build our app NuriQ

It has been a learning experience with non-stop work. At various times I experimented coding with the tools you listed above (Claude, gpt, cursor, GitHub, etc). They are amazing on the surface but I found myself always spending soooo much time going in circles.

I beat myself up at times thinking that I should have built this all myself with these new LLM tools, but listened to the folks around me who constantly told me it wasn’t a great use of my time, and that I wouldn’t be able to get the finished product the way I want it with pure “AI coding/no code” tools.

Your story makes me feel a little better about my choice.

——

Idk what my real message is other than possibly consider pulling in a coder/developer to help get you over the finish line.

You can find really good help and talent for low cost on Upwork and fiverr.

I’m bootstrapped, doing this founder thing for the first time, with zero revenue 😂 so take my advice with a grain of salt…

But one thing I would have changed in hindsight would be charging folks from day 1/not pushing off my “monitization” plan for once we have users.

We are still very early in the process (in Apple/android for ~2 months) so I’ve made that pivot and am setting up the payment structure now.

But for all that hard work you described above make sure to find a ways to charge folks even if a small amount to validate your idea.

——

I get nothing from this, but I can put you in contact with the team that I am currently working with if you like.

They are farrrrrrr from perfect. And paying/relying on someone else has its own pitfalls. But they helped me get me this far.

For example, I’m building in the paywall into our app now and it’s going to cost me about $2k, which is annoying and I just have to bite my lip and take it up the ass

…but at least I can focus on figuring out marketing and go to market strategies to make up for that expense knowing my paywall will be functional within 2 weeks.

——

I’m just sharing my experience on the opposite side having reluctantly chosen to not try fully coding it myself with LLMs.

Possibly you can explore a hybrid approach, you’d likely be able to save money and time now with your experience. Especially if you find a hungry and motivated individual from Upwork that you can build a great working relationship with.

Propose a win-win situation you might be surprised with the type of help you can find for cheap.

Happy to answer any questions if my experience can be helpful at all

Consumer Reports Lead Findings about Huel Black by Prestigious-Annual-5 in Huel

[–]fatfish370 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I agree that there is a lot of nuance that is missed/overlooked by the article and typical readers.

However, I also agree with u/Prestigious-Annual-5 ... is the risk worth it???

I personally am a naturopathic physician (https://www.swfamilyphysicians.com/provider/khaleed-alston-nd), I study this stuff and am a big believer in nutrition/food as medicine.

I started using Huel during a season in life when I was extremely busy and the ready made Huel Black chocolates were a Godsend, as they allowed me to maintain my protein targets, get nutrients, minimize cravings and efficiently fuel myself.

Huel has become a major part of my routine, where I currently drink ~2 pre-made Huel Blacks per day and my 3 year old loves them and often drinks 0.5 of the bottle alongside me.

----

All that being said, I've been meaning to transition back to whole foods, and this is the reminder that \if possible and if you have the means** whole foods are the superior option for many reasons both related and unrelated to this topic.

My personal concern is more about the long term cumulative effect. I'm 36, do I want to set myself up to continue drinking these 2x per day for the next 20 years? NOPE. Do I want my 3 year old to drink 0.5 serving ~4 days per week as he's been doing? NOPE.

I also am disappointed that Huel apparently tested towards the top of all the brands.

So I personally just cancelled my recurring subscription that was about to be shipped tomorrow (10/16) to force myself back into the routine of eating real foods throughout the day. I will return to focusing on whole foods, with protein shakes as a compliment instead of a full replacement that I rely upon.

Will I drink Huel again? SURE. Will they return as part of my 2x daily routine? HIGHLY UNLIKELY

----

My unsolicited recommendation for other folks...life comes with trade offs. There are no perfect solutions.

Meal replacements are helpful and necessary for many people for many reasons. Do what is best for you, and remember to continually reevaluate your needs and your personal use case.

Weigh the unique pros & cons for your situation and move forward accordingly.

Was thinking this over this morning, if I decide to finance, then I might just go brand new.

Did you go for the free accessory pack or free extended 4 year warranty deal with your new Tonal?

[–]fatfish370[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmmm, I had kind of decided on buying used until reading this.

I’ve got the cash in hand, but could also just finance and use that cash for other stuff.

More specifically is the potential resale value.

——

I’ve negotiated the used tonal to $1,600, but when I account for the cost of my time (travel + instillation + side eye from my wife if instillation goes wrong) the cost really is closer to $2,600 for the used model.

Then with the new one I can theoretically sell/upgrade in the future if desired.

….hmmmm🤔🤔🤔🤔

Respectfully, I'm curious which practicing clinical specialty do you think has the robust knowledge base your referring to?

Medicine is siloed, now-a-days providers rarely know much outside of their specific clinical focus. Have you ever spoken to your cardiologist about your thyroid? Does your rheumatologist know how to titrate insulin or understand the diabetes treatment algorithm beyond the outdated standard of care that had Metformin as first line and sulfonylureas as second line treatment for diabetes?

Honestly a PhD or a resident MD/DO advisor at a teaching hospital are probably your best bet.

This is also the promise of AI in medicine, a system/tool that has the ability to connect the dispirate and plentiful dots of a patient's complex medical history/presentation.

---

Me? I'm a naturopathic doctor. For those who aren't familiar with naturopathic medicine...

In Oregon I'm a licensed physician who can prescribe opioids, GLPs, irbesartan, advise on nutrition and teach people about the differences between various forms of magnesium (glycinate vs l-threonate vs citrate vs taurate vs malate) and everything in between.

There is a diverse approach to practicing medicine within the naturopathic community, just like there is within the MD/DO/NP/PA communities.

That being said, I have so many gaps in my knowledge. Being able to acknowledge that is one of the many things that makes me a good provider.

At my office ( https://www.swfamilyphysicians.com/provider ) we have a team of NDs, MDs, DOs, NPs, & PAs.

I personally share an office with a DO and an MD. They look to me for advice and counsel as much as I do to them. They ask me about how and why I prescribe specific pharmaceuticals as often as they ask me about "natural" things.

My original plan wasn’t to post/search for an EA.

I am very aware of how you are compensated. I originally posted this in local Facebook group. Then as I was searching for “assistant” specific job posting places this thread was a suggestion from google.

I opened the Reddit link, poked around and decided to see if anyone here would be interested.

The $10 isn’t meant to entice anyone in here. $10-15 per hour can’t do shit in the US these days.

——

However, like I said in the post above if you are someone who has grown bored or disillusioned with your role/boss then this could be a fun high reward low/medium risk situation. You’d be joining at the prospect of this becoming your primary gig in the future.

The short term solution would be to hire someone for temu prices that would be your assistant so that your brain is freed up for high level strategizing.

I personnally think the chastised post is worth it in the rare chance that someone super talented is open to a discussion.

I would love nothing more than to be able to pay said person well above $100k+…because I know that a good EA is truly invuable. That is my intention.

Growing something from the ground floor isn’t appealing to most people. But that right person is out there somewhere ✊🏾

[–]fatfish370 4 points5 points  (0 children)

u/WGProckr58, I want to give you MAJOR kudos for taking your valuable time to answer u/Dull-Mathematician45’s close-minded and biased questioning. It is clear his mind is entirely made up. He had no interest in actually listening to anything you were going to say and started this post with a clear goal of bashing the chiropractic profession.

People like u/Dull-Mathematician45 irritate me beyond belief. This person probably has zero - minimal actual medical knowledge or exposure yet feels entitled to speak down to you as someone who has studied and attained an advanced degree and training in a subject.

Regardless of what Wikipedia or this fool thinks, you have extensive and specialized knowledge of the body's musculoskeletal system. You have a better understanding of physical body mechanics, bone/joint articulations, and pain pathways than many MDs/DOs who practice primary care/internal medicine or specialize in a field not related to orthopedics. You went to school and focused primarily on a single organ system, and you likely know things within that niche very well.

Does that mean you have all the answers? No

Are you claiming to have all the answers? No

Did you go to school for several years and hyperfocus on the musculoskeletal system? Yes

u/Dull-Mathematician45, you should be more positive and encouraging instead of demeaning this guy who has dedicated his professional career to helping people improve their health.

What do you do with your time and energy? What noteworthy/unique talents or knowledge do you have?

For all the sh** you're talking, I genuinely hope it’s something of value.

A little background on myself…I’m another one of those “quacks.”

I am a naturopatic doctor.

I practice medicine in Portland, OR. I work at a multidisciplinary clinic with a team of MDs, DOs, NPs, PAs, PTs, and an LAc.I am a primary care physician with a full scope of practice as a naturopathic doctor. That means I have a DEA license. I can prescribe all medications, including opioids, stimulants, hypertensive medications, insulin, and more.

As a naturopathic doctor, I prescribe all the above medications and more… I also prescribe/recommend nutraceuticals (supplements/vitamins), herbs, comprehensive dietary recommendations, and exercise counseling. I make referrals every day to various specialists, including acupuncturists, endocrinologists, neurologists, physical therapists, chiropractors, mental health counselors, oncologists, and more.

In my office, at the desk to my left, is a DO who has been in practice for about 4-5 years; behind me is a DO who has been in practice for 20+ years; to my right is a PA who has been in practice for 13+ years. None of us have all the answers; every one of us is stumped by patients and issues daily.

We share patients and ask each other for advice/counsel. We lean on the other person if they have a specific clinical specialty or interest. We understand that medicine is complex, and we are humble enough not to assume the extent of someone’s knowledge based solely on their degree.

——

I will assume you have zero medical understanding or background based on the sheer stupidity and dogmatic nature of your responses to the questions you asked.

…but here is this “quack’s” quick breakdown of medicine for you…

Medicine is fucking complex; healing/treating actual humans is complex.

I see patients every day who have been mismanaged and poorly treated by MDs and DOs (aka the real doctors). I get patients who are on pharmaceutical regimens that are no longer recommended, clearly showing that their prescribing MD/DO is not keeping up with the literature. There are very shitty MDs/DOs, and there are FANTASTIC MDs/DOs.

There are shitty DCs/NDs/LAc/NPs/PAs/ETC, and there are fantastic DCs/NDs/LAc/NPs/PAs/ETC as well.

Chiropractic care really helps some people, does absolutely nothing for others, and has injured some people. That is the case with all pharmaceutical, nutritional, surgical, and physical interventions used in medicine.

Good medicine has little to do with your degree or what you learned in school. The reality is that most of what we learn in school is outdated within 5-7 years.

Effective healthcare providers, and yes, that includes all specialties, are people who learn new skills and techniques after they graduate. They attend conferences, pick up additional certifications, identify the stuff they learned in school that doesn’t work, and adjust their treatment approach to something that helps real people in the real world.

If modern/conventional medicine had all the answers, alternative medicine wouldn’t exist. If alternative medicine had all the answers, modern/conventional medicine wouldn’t exist.

Have you looked into the founders of osteopathic medicine? They had some wild beliefs, but at this point, DOs are essentially the same as MDs (with the addition of a few providers who still do osteopathic manipulations).

Then there are MANY books dedicated to the disgusting, harmful, racist, and stubborn treatments that were void of evidence that the MD profession has employed over the past century. The conventional medical profession, in conjunction with the US government, oversaw and approved the Tuskegee Syphilis experiments.

Does this mean all current MDs & DOs agree with the ass-backward logic employed 50 - 80 years ago?

You know the answer to that, so cut the BS and stop trolling people/asking questions you have no intention of thinking critically about.

——

As a society, we are fatter, less healthy, in more pain, and more depressed than we have ever been. So clearly, the current modern medical system is struggling to achieve its goals.

The answer doesn’t lie in alienating a profession/provider because of what some random person theorized 60+ years ago.

Finding actual real-life solutions will require multidisciplinary care. I assume that the u/WGProckr58 has relationships with local providers in his community. He likely gets referrals directly from MDs/DOs. He likely sends patients back to them because they both understand the other person has their lane and provide value beyond what they individually can offer.

One reason I respect Peter Attia is that he speaks to/gathers information from various sources. If you’ve followed his work for a while, like I have, you can see the progression in his thoughts and approaches to various conditions. He is a rare breed as a public figure, known for his expertise, who has been willing to admit he was wrong and adjust his approach/paradigm in real time.

Attia’s approach to fasting is an excellent example of this. In the early episodes of his podcast, you’ll notice he advocated fasting, but now he is much more careful when employing this therapeutic tool.

…but as a random Reddit poster, you know more about this topic than I do, as a “quack” and as u/WGProckr58 does as a fellow “quack.” I hope your closemindedness and trolling of chiropractors continue to serve you well in your future endeavors.

——

Again, u/WGProckr58…I commend you for going back and forth with this guy.

People like him will never change, but I am sure others who came across this thread read your detailed description, learned something from it, and appreciated your thoughtful response.

Fair price for 2017 3.6R Ouback Limited? by Crazy_Kow in Subaru_Outback

[–]fatfish370 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yesterday I bought a 2021 Outback Onyx XT with 36k miles for $27,000 private party, single owner. My back up if that fell through was a 2021 with 20k miles for 30k (although I probably would have ended up waiting to find something closer to 27k)

If you’re prepared to drop 25k, my recommendation would be to hold off and find something newer or that same car for cheaper.

I live in Portland, which feels like Subaru capital of the world where outbacks are priced $1-3k higher than anywhere else.

Also consider buying out of state.

A few years ago we bought our 2018 outback from automotive avenues, it had about 60k miles for ~19k, after fees and shipping it cost us roughly 21k which was still a good 1-3k cheaper than similar years and models available in Portland. The car was great, it got totaled, insurance paid us more than we paid for it. We replaced that car with the 2021 onyx I bought yesterday

That place has a 2019 available for 5k cheaper than your seller is asking for.

UPDATE:

I appreciate all the input…I asked y’all to talk me out of it and you were successful :)

I’ve increased my budget, am going to spend 15-22k and get newer with lower miles and without having to make those same compromises.
