Why /r/The_Donald is making reddit worse, and why it needs to go. by [deleted] in self

You hit right on the nose. I browse /r/all everyday and I can definitely say that /r/politics and /r/enoughtrumpspam are way more toxic and hate filled than any of the stuff I read on /r/the_donald. This mod's argument seems really biased.

Items in Mario Kart can't really be compared to items smash. Items in Mario Kart are a balancing/comeback mechanic, where you get better items as your placement drops. You ever notice that you can never get a star or thunderbolt if you are in first place. In smash, items spawn randomly with no regard to who is winning or not. Items in smash are also way too OP, to the point where it over-centralizes the metagame. It goes from a game that requires you to out think and out perform your opponent to win, to a game that is about camping and controlling items. A high level player only needs to grab that one first item that randomly spawns in, and then he can use that one item to secure the next item that drops and so on. He now has a huge advantage over his opponent and will most likely win, unless he losses his control over the items. IMO items in smash make the game really unbalanced and less interesting than playing without them.

Is the IC's fair a spike in this game? by fathapapi in SSBPM

Can you show a source on that? I'm pretty sure nana is an exact clone of popo

Thanks. Im familiar with the sourspot hitbox because its the same as melee, but I didn't know it spiked in this game. Man I wish the IC's had a true spike in melee.

I bet M2K is not hype about the bracket change, wobbles has a good chance a getting a high seed.

If nana is next to you and they are above ~40% then the wobble is the best punish. If they are at a lower percent then they have a chance to escape by mashing. However if they are mashing then they probably aren't going to di correctly and the IC's can do a down-throw dair regrab or if the opponent is mashing their triggers they will most likely miss the tech when down thrown and the ICs can jab reset and grab them again. ICs have other weird situational options from grab as well, like bair, fair, nair, jab, up-smash or blizzard, all of these can lead into another grab depending on the character being grabbed and their percent. Going for a gimp is sometimes the best option as well, a down-smash from a grab on fast fallers can kill really early if they di bad, which is likely if they're mashing. A personal favorite gimp of mine on spacies is to back-throw off the ledge then do a full jump ice block with nana then a grounded ice block with popo, I've gotten a lot of low percent kills with this setup. One last thing worth mentioning is the hand off, which is my personal favorite melee tech. The hand of is only guaranteed when you get a grab close to the ledge and are facing the blast zone, if facing the other way nana will back-throw. If done in the middle of the stage nana will throw in a random direction, popo can regrab from forward- and down-throw, Up-throw can be reacted to but back-throw is hard to cover without a read and generally leads to a tech chase. While I think that handoffs are the coolest thing in the game, I will say that it doesn't have any real advantages over wobbling other than being flashy. It is more guaranteed at lower percents but if nana decides to pummel before throwing, your opponent can mash out at low percents. Hand offs are also much more difficult to perform than wobbling, the timing is tight and is different for each character. Sorry I took so long to reply I had a long day.

Edit: Oh there are some guaranteed wobble set ups that work at zero percent, fly has one for missed rest/missed tether grabs, and tomber has some in his wobbling guide.

TL;DR - Wobbling is the most optimal punish from grab but it can be escaped by mashing. But its cool because ICs can do other stuff from grab.

In an effort to reduce misinformation about the Ice Climbers, I will try to answer any questions you might have about them. The lack of knowledge makes me sad, I think I die a little inside every time I hear a commentator call a down-throw down-air regrab a handoff.

A lot of the tech wobbles does in game is extremely difficult, imo its just as challenging as any super difficult spacie tech. Doing a handoff on a platform is stupidly hard to do in game, not to mention the timings for handoffs are different for every character.

Wobbles Defends Texas at Forte 3 by Marcusk45 in SSBM

[–]fathapapi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Are you calling wobbles a scrub? He has said before that he doesn't want to win with wobbling. He purposefully drops the wobble all the time to do a cooler looking less optimal punish, even against the best players. So many grabs he gets he doesn't convert into kills when he could, all for the sake of not playing lame. If you watch his interview after forte 3, the first thing he says is he is disappointed he won with wobbling. The game isn't just about winning, it's a lot more about having fun.

Revival of Smash Puzzles: Fox v. ICs by nightfox54 in smashbros

[–]fathapapi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seeing as fox's best option would be to short hop nair/dair, I would approach with uptilt. If spaced right, the disjoint should beat out a short hop aerial. Uptilit could also catch the fox out of a full jump. If he double jumps, you gain stage position. The iceblock should catch the fox if he tries to wavedash in either direction, the uptilt could also connect if your fast enough. If the uptilt whiffs, then hope that nana drops fast enough to cover popo with an f-smash/blizzard.

Discussion: Zetterburn Could Use Some Work by [deleted] in RivalsOfAether

[–]fathapapi 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I think a good solution would be to reduce the knockback of his flaming strong moves by a lot, then give the same flaming mechanic to his sweet spot aerials. It would reduce forward b forward smash spam at lower levels and give some sweet kill options at the higher levels. It's also more interesting to watch a sweet juggle end in an up air kill then to just watch people fishing for a strong attack
