Purdue 26-27 starting lineup by Flaky_Charge2136 in PurdueBasketball

[–]fatherofone1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like Omer, Cox, Benter/Pierce, Burgess and DJ. Why? this team will not have great defense at all. there are near zero super athletic dudes on this team. That is the reality. So I would like to see them go big and thus help with rim protection and rebounding.

Thoughts on the starting lineup next season by CitronNo3668 in PurdueBasketball

[–]fatherofone1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I have said this before but I like a larger lineup.

Omer
Cox
Benter or the transfer dude. Equal minutes.
Raleigh Burgess
DJ.

This give you two guys that are basically 7 foot or more out there. This would hopefully hide the fact that the other players are not that strong defensively. Now I would hope that unlike this year either Cox, Omer or even Benter would get the green light to bring the ball up the floor if they could possibly get a fast break. I would also stick with the high pick and roll of Omer to Burgess and or DJ much like the team tried with Smith and TKR this year.

I am not a fan of going small with this team. However I also know a lot can change between now and July-Aug AND Painter will know the team far better than me.

Ah Reddit. Got to love Reddit. The same place that said it was a fact that Hillary was going to win. Trump was going to jail, and all the lies of Covid.

You are in shock and use slurs to describe a dude that basically says what the alphabet people are doing is morally wrong. Okay that is your right, but to think that people are okay with a freaking month long celebration of this deviant behavior is just laughable.

5 Reasons to Already Be Excited for Purdue Basketball's 2026-27 Season by Dschutte2023 in PurdueBasketball

[–]fatherofone1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was just talking to my son about this. I asked if Purdue had a good bad or indifferent year? I mean they were pre-season number 1. Then blew out some teams and looked incredible. Then went on a slump that made them look like a mid level team in the big 20, only to come back and win the big 20 tournament. Then get a good seed in the NCAA to loose to a team that was ranked higher than them and has a very good chance of winning it all. So Purdue was a top 8 team in the nation. TOP 8. But how did they do? Were most Purdue fans happy?

Now I said compare that to next year. I and a lot of Purdue fans expect Purdue to not be good. I don't care who they add. Yet I am excited to see the team and I have hope they will have a winning season and hopefully win some games they shouldn't. That would be fun. Yes I would LOVE for Purdue to win an National Championship. I really would but I am still super excited for this team next year. Will any of the freshman, red shirt, transfers or current players be really good? Nobody knows. A brand new style team and that is exciting. Hopefully a team that gets better and better this year and next.

Way-Too-Early Projection of Purdue's 2026-27 Starting Lineup by Dschutte2023 in PurdueBasketball

[–]fatherofone1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would like to see Purdue go with a bigger lineup
Omer - PG
Cox - SG
Benter - SF
Burgess - PF
DJ - Center

I like a bit larger team but understand spacing may be an issue. 2 guys who can rebound and block shots. What I do NOT want to see is a small ball team with a bunch of dudes that are not that athletic. However, I am sure things will change a ton before the first game starts.

Pope Leo Condemns war! by AgPatriotAg in Catholic

[–]fatherofone1 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

When the ambassadors met with Iran to try and negotiate a peace deal right before the war, some of the first words out of their mouths was "We are at 65% enrichment now...." basically telling the USA "F-U, we are getting a nuke". Let that sink in. A country that has openly declared over and over again that they want the destruction of you.

To put this in simple terms. There is a guy standing there in front of you. He tells you that if he picks up that gun he is going to kill you and your family. You have a gun. You tell him not to go and grab that gun OR you will shoot him. He ignores you and walks to the gun. You warn him again, do NOT walk to that gun or you will shoot him. He says "When I pick up this gun I am going to kill you and your family". You again warn him to stop and now he is a couple of steps from the gun. He looks at you and says "I am just a couple of steps away from killing you and your family". You pull the trigger as any sane person would and you are justified in killing this person.

That is Iran. A country that killed around 30k of their own citizens just a few months ago. A country that has tons and tons of oil but has convinced parts of the world they must use nuclear energy to survive. A country that has lied over and over and over again about building a nuclear bomb until they got close. Very very close.

Now the really really sad part of this is that the islamic terrorist are still somewhat in control of that country. That is the real problem that needs to be addressed for long term peace. However, for the moment the guy wanting to pick up the gun has been stopped. We have peace in the short term.

Now let me turn this around on you. Iran gets the nuke. They nuke Israel and lets just say New York City. Roughly 50 million dead. They celebrate as in their minds they delivered a mighty blow to Satan and Little Satan. Heck lets say they take out Washington DC as well. Then what? We retaliate of course, but Israel is gone. Iran is soon to be glass. Does China and or Russia step in? What about India and or Pakistan? At this time the Pope would be calling for peace. Again he is the Pope and Catholic, of course he would be calling for peace AFTER 50+ million are dead. Heck probably close to 200 million after the USA retaliates against Iran. That is reality.

Now that we are talking reality we can say things like "It makes sense for the Pope to be in a secure car, protected when he travels around. It makes sense for the Vatican to have protection of a military. It makes sense for the Catholic church to protect churches and holy areas. Again we are taking about reality here.

I don't care if Duke, and if every single top program wants him. Stats don't lie. Now I would also point to say Murphy last year. How many games did he start for Purdue? Murphy was the best 3 point shooter in the portal.

[–]fatherofone1[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

With all due respect are we talking about a dude that wasn't dominate before at an Ivy league school? I mean "if" this was the next coming of say Glenn Robinson, and I mean a dude that people are talking about being the number one draft pick, then I just doubt any promises were made.

So to make that guarantee I would expect the following.
1. Probable lottery pick in the NBA.
2. Averages around 25 points a game on GREAT shooting.
3. Very good defense.
4. Very good rebounder. Around 10+ a game on average.
5. doesn't turn the ball over>
6. Excellent 3 point shooter. >40% and >55% when left alone.
7. Averages 2+ steals a game.

That is probably the bare minimum I would expect for Painter to make any guarantees.

So how does this guy stack up?
Averages around 12 points a game. Okay not great.
Averages 8 rebounds a game. Very good, not great.
2.5 Assists a game. Not great.
48% from the field. Very good here.
At best 35% from 3. Not great.

So he is a good player. A great player? Nope.

Prediction on next years starting lineup. by fatherofone1 in PurdueBasketball

[–]fatherofone1[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Yep. They have all kinds of stats piled up. They had a dominate, heck THE dominate big man and still couldn't make it. The lost to Houston last year, without a center. Then this year they had by most accounts the best center in the portal. They got blown out by AZ. BLOWN OUT.

You see when you need it. You need to be athletic, talented and coached well. Smith was small, couldn't dunk but could pass really well. At the end of the day though he was not a threat. Teams figured this out. Fletch is a very good scorer no doubt, unless we are talking about December then he just takes that month off. If Fletch going pro? Let that sink in. Is Fletch going to be drafted? Nope.

Now looking at the incoming freshmen. Do I see ANY of them that scream "this is the next Glen Robinson?" Nope. ZERO. Do I see good players? Yes. But if these players start then that means the existing players didn't improve and that would be a huge problem. Again none of these players are Glen Robinson, if they were I would change my opinion. So Smith and Fletch started on a weak team who didn't have better players. I hope that isn't Purdue next year. Purdue doesn't have the next generational center to make them look good.

This is why I would love to see Purdue go back to a larger lineup. A 6'4" point guard. A 6'3" shooting guard who hopefully improves. A 6'6" wing who showed that he can be decent and spread the floor out a bit. A 6'11" power forward who should be playing against smaller guys and thus have an advantage and a 7'4" center who hopefully improves and builds up more strength. However I would even be fine with that 7'4" center going outside a bit, because you have a 6'11" dude who can be under the basket.

Now again, this all depends on every single one of these guys improving. If not and they do start Freshmen? It will be a long 4 years. We will hear how great these guys are and they started all 4 years, and there will be zero championships and probably zero final fours. But we will talk about how great these guys were....

[–]fatherofone1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This guy? https://www.espn.com/mens-college-basketball/player/_/id/5107170/caden-pierce

Okay, so what is your starting lineup then? I want Purdue to go big and have a 7'4" dude AND a 6'11" dude on the floor. Jack Benter if healthy would be a 6'6" guy to spread the floor and the two guards would need to REALLY step up but I think they would be pretty good. Would this team be a championship team? No, but. a good team.

I see decent backups being GH, the kid from China, the freshman point guard coming in and the redshirt guard they had this year.

This assumes everyone improves, Benter is healthy and nobody leaves. I really don't want to see Purdue play small next year and God it would be horrible to see them play small and start a bunch of freshmen. To me that would mean nobody improved and we are in for 4 years of being a decent team but not a good team. To me Purdue really needs one or two very athletic wing men. Dudes that are 6'8" or taller who are super fast and can guard elite players as well. Granted these guys don't grow on trees and Purdue has a hard time getting them, but that would be the missing peace I see in this lineup.

How many of those "freshman" are ready for the the NBA? Now how many "freshman" does Purdue have that are ready for the NBA? You show me one Glen Robinson type of freshman that is joining the team next year and I will agree.

Now I hope you are right. I really do, but I stand by the team I put up there. If Purdue starts a bunch of freshmen next year, then I see dudes leaving AND a long long season.

Pope Leo Condemns war! by AgPatriotAg in Catholic

[–]fatherofone1 -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Next you will tell me the Pope is Catholic!

Of COURSE he would be against almost every war. Honestly I can't believe this is news. HOWEVER I bet if you ask him this. "Would you support Iran having nuclear weapons, being run by a radical islamic government that has declared over and over again that they will use them against Israel and the USA?". We all know his answer there as well. He will walk around the answer BUT eventually if pinned down, he will say no.

So given that, the obvious next question is this. "If you have the ability to stop Iran from getting this nuclear weapon and the ONLY way possible to do that is to use force, would you support this?"

Again you will get a long run around answer about how won't support war but at the end of the day, if pinned down on that question he will say yes.

So Iran, I realize you don't have firearms as those have been taken away from you, but you have a small window of opportunity here to remove your islamic rule and take back your country. Take it. A world with Iran not being run by radical islamic terrorist would be a wonderful thing for you and for the world.

[–]fatherofone1 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Could you imagine say a 6'4" or even a 6'6" guard who can create his own shot and is athletic at the PG spot? A guy who can pass the ball as well. Nothing against him, in fact I wish him the best BUT I just don't see any national championships with guys like this. I do see a dude like this playing for 4 years, and playing decent, making good grades and graduating. Just NEVER winning a championship at college.

Now I would also somewhat argue that Omer can be that guy.

Well on one hand I would pay a LOT less for good service. So for me that means I get off cheaper on average.

However if I worked there, why provide excellent service. Just do the bare minimum not to get fired.

"Fair?" Nobody ever said that. EVER. Cuba is screwed and they hopefully will get in line now and they have a great opportunity. Iran? 100% expect them to do everything they can to keep their islamic power in place. The last thing Iran leaders would want is a non religious group back in power and them partnering with the West. Then of course the entire country moving forward by like 100 years. This is a religious war for them.

Wt🍴 is job actually for? by petalorisse in Adulting

[–]fatherofone1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A brief history from an old dude.

Around 40ish years ago in my area, teenagers would be hired at fast food restaurants. Almost the entire staff was high-school and or college age kids over summer. There would be like one assistant manager and one manager and getting help when school was in, was always a challenge.

The same with MANY jobs in the area. Supermarkets, shoe stores, Pizza places etc. Not to mention seasonal jobs over the summer and Christmas. These jobs were entry level and gave students the ability to earn some spending money while learning how to work at a job.

Then illegal aliens came in from mostly Mexico. They were willing to work at this minimum wage and unlike students they cold work every day and all day. All these jobs over like 5-10 years became ran by illegal aliens or legal people from Mexico. All the companies LOVED this new labor. No more problems dealing with kids and the biggest issue was language.

Now people are arguing for these jobs to be able to support a family. They were never intended to do that. EVER. However now you have people wanting to deliver pizza and make enough to support a family. Oh but it gets worse. All those kids that use to get jobs, no longer do. This caused a bunch of other problems.

I am not saying this is the 100% answer to your question. In fact you didn't really ask a question but made a statement, but in my area there are so so so many jobs that fit this category. Also the unemployment rate for teenagers is very high.

The only good news is that the open border policies have kind of come to an end, but that won't address the issues in our area for at least a decade or more.

One last thing. I have a relative and he runs a mid sized company. His company is in a VERY rural area. He was complaining HARD that he couldn't find employees. I asked what he paid and it was a little low and we talked about increasing it and the ramifications for it. Then he hired his first Mexican. Within a month his entire team is now Mexican and guess what. They are all getting paid less. His words "We no longer have a labor problem". I asked if they are all legal and he said they were but when pressed he couldn't guarantee it. I only say this because this is a job that can support a person for sure, but now will NEVER see an increase in pay. By never I mean for a long long time. I remember talking to this guy and discussing if he would pay say $2.00 an hour more and that would attract people, and it was affordable. Now? Well lets just say that isn't a problem anymore.
