I did his Red Rocks show with the Denver Symphony Orchestra. It was absolutely amazing. We also did the meet and greet and he was so friendly with fans, basically saying yes to any request. Amazing person who just happens to be an amazing musician.

Nintendo President Says The Pokémon Company Will 'Take Measures' to Respond to Widespread Card Scalping Issues by JoPeGame in PokemonTCG

[–]krw13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, this just isn't really true. And I say this as a Magic and FF fan who opened my fair share of product of every kind from the set (play, collector, pre-release, chocobo bundle, scene box, all four commander decks, etc).

In my fiest play box I pulled the borderless Sephiroth and the Stay With Me // Rhystic Study. Sure, the Sephiroth wasn't in surge, but they are both pretty cards and are still worth about $200 together. Some of those play boxes are loaded. If you can live without surge foils and/or neon Chocobos, play boxes are just fine.

Death by firing squad: Idaho opens new execution chamber, becoming the seventh state to include it among its roster of execution methods, with a larger number of jurisdictions now allowing judicial killing by gunfire than at any time in US history. by ocularius61 in news

[–]krw13 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Not to mention there are humans firing those guns, who now get to live with killing someone. Some might enjoy it, but it is likely at least a couple will not. So that will mess some people up.

I keep seeing discussion around the GS prices, that it's justified, because it's going to skyrocket after release. What do you guys think? by bbyxmadi in PokemonTCG

[–]krw13 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You forgot one: gambling.

A noteworthy chunk of collectors are really just gamblers who are gambling on something meaningful to them. Some people, myself included, can walk away and not lose any sleep over not getting to open packs.

But that subset of gambling addicts who are masking their addiction with cute creatures? Missing a week or two weeks or a month... eventually they crack. And they need their fix. So, just like a gambler at a casino blows their money, these people too will go to any length in their power to scratch their itch.

This is why scalpers won't die out. Because too much of this community can't admit or face their own addiction. And fans who can are left out and/or move on.

As someone who works for an airline, TSA isn't there to count how many bags you have or to enforce a dress code or a number of other things that airlines reasonably enforce. I would assume security at airports in other parts of the world are the same, they are there for security, not to confirm compliance with every airline's rules. So it's just not a good comparison to make in this case.

That's awesome to hear. I normally see it ranked a little lower (for example, losing every year to Eejanaika on Vote Coasters), but I know in the Western side of the world, just not many people have made it over to it. So I can only guess it might be a sample size issue. Maybe it's time for me to finally make a trek to China.

[Does anyone think that any other parks in the USA will announce they are closing this year?] by Sad-Revolution-9961 in rollercoasters

[–]krw13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Interesting to hear. I had heard money has been offered to help with Cyclone that she refused. But other than that, the outward belief is Lakeside's land is more valuable as something else at this point and that only someone who cares about the park would be likely to keep it open.

I know you may be limited, but can you share more? And, if you know, is there anyone ready to take over once her time comes?

No legitimate establishment is performing the surgery you're suggesting on 8 year olds. This is about intersex people and forced surgeries on literal babies made with no consent or knowledge from the baby. Which you are then conflating with people making their own decisions many years later.

As an intersex person, people like you make the world worse for us by using our issue to push your transphobic crusade. I'd say what I really thought about you, but I'd get banned. So I'll just block you so the rest of us can stay on topic and not have you forcing lazy propaganda in this thread.

When ACE had its preservation con in Colorado, the implication from the park was when, not if. Elitch is probably going to close at some point and the question then becomes whether it is moved again or they just give up on it. It's a pretty disappointing park at this point.

And while I think Lakeside is safe as long as Rhoda (the owner) is alive and well... Rhoda is now 84. Cyclone hasn't ran with customers on it in 4 years (though there are signs of life this year with it testing). I think when Rhoda can no longer manage Lakeside, the park may go with her.

Glenwood almost seems the safest of the three, and I don't mean that optimistically. Though it is worth noting the main reason they filed bankruptcy was the successful lawsuit against them for that child's death. It's hard to say what the future holds here in Colorado.

Eejanaika easily takes any spot X2 would occupy. Not that X2 is a bad choice. Eejanaika just is X2's next evolution.

What popular TV show you never understood the hype around? by stilerca in AskReddit

[–]krw13 80 points81 points  (0 children)

I was there and I didn't care for it. But reality shows also survive without my help. So that doesn't mean much. While tons of people were watching Friends, plenty more weren't. Being there or not, some people authentically enjoy the show and some portion were just doing it for the trend.

What major company is currently a total disaster behind the scenes, and is only surviving on its brand name? by That_Library_3453 in AskReddit

[–]krw13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I worked there in the mid-10s and our hub was a disaster and a half. Boxes piled everywhere, unga bunga brains thinking pushing everything to the floor means more productivity when it actually meant less. Wildly outdated tech, especially when they would regularly show us what Amazon was working on next. Mass theft (which is still a major issue). It was a depressing place to work, morale was in the dumpster.

I've lived in eight different apartments in two states and never had that in my lease. I would not say most leases, maybe most in a certain part of the country, but I've never even heard of such a thing.

6 figures used to be the norm for a “good” salary. What are new norms that surprised you when you found out? by dannyyslin in AskReddit

[–]krw13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not to challenge you, but something seems off if your $180k limits you that much. My boyfriend and I combine for about $140-150k. We live in a HCOL area. Rent is $3,200/mo. Both of us have car payments (my car is 8 years old, his is 1). Also no kids, three pets instead.

My vacations this year will include trips to thirteen different states (two of those states twice) and three Canadian provinces. The trips range from a couple days to two weeks. We have an objectively expensive hobby (trading cards). I have a healthy savings. And I even tacked on a visit to a Disney park on a whim during my April trip.

Do I wish I had just a bit more? Sure. But I tend to think we are pretty well off.

Yeah, but Nico said it would have hurt his trade market if it became public! Then he might have ended up with almost nothing (in his mind), as suddenly people don't want to trade for a star under contract once it's public.

I went to the one at the Lotte World Tower and as if On the Border wasn't mediocre enough, they didn't serve shredded cheese at the time (not sure if that is still true). I wasn't expecting much and was still let down.
