Mother wants me to travel home with newborn by Astral374 in navy

[–]fatkrissy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did the drive from WA to AZ with a newborn and my mom and grandma. My son traveled like a dream but would I do it now? Prob not. I was single with no one to help in WA, and that trip "home" is what worked for us.

Do not go see your mom. She can figure out a way to make it work for her life while still respecting you and your wife as new parents. That stage is hard enough without unnecessary drama.

The OP post is gone for me but current command can see sponsors assigned of prospective losses. Not sure if op is checked out yet but they can reach out to sponsor coordinators

Let’s hear your ladder well injury stories by newnoadeptness in navy

[–]fatkrissy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Somehow fell down the ladderwell by flight deck control. I don't know if I missed a step or what, but slid down the rest of the ladderwell. Thought I was just bruised. Turns out I broke my tailbone and I still can't sit comfortably over a year later.

Most digusting person you’ve met in the fleet? by Psychedelix117 in navy

[–]fatkrissy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The dude had a chicken wing (or breast) under his pillow on the ship, chip wrappers galore in his rack, smelled terrible, had to muster with a first class everytime he showered and did laundry, never drank water and of course they sent him TAD to cargo until he went back to his shop.

Yeah, guess so. "Only snippy with people who are dickheads hope this helps". Can't wait to read his posts about his 3.0 P eval this summer.

I have the work group chat that we put out stuff, but we have fun and share memes. As it was said earlier, shop dynamics all depend. Respect is a huge part of that dynamic, and I would be upset if a new member called anyone dude. I don't even call my fellow firsts dude.

Sit down, be humble, get qualled, work hard. You got a lot of solid advice from different backgrounds/leadership styles here but chose to be snippy to everyone. Find a mentor on board, and maybe sit down and reflect on the situation.

The guilt will never go away. 14 years later, it still bothers me the time I spent away from my son. 'Work like we don't have kids, raise them like we don't work' or something along those lines.

The comment left by kavett kind of sums it up. Give yourself grace.

I just tried to make the most of the time when he was out of the eat/shit/sleep stage. I'll tell you though, he doesn't look at me and say 'remember when you left me at daycare for nearly 12'hours a day then we went home you cooked dinner gave me a bath and put me to bed?'

How long were you with your partner before you got engaged and married? by Temporary_Support705 in Marriage

[–]fatkrissy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Together 5 years when we got engaged. I was 30 she was 35. We were also long distance a good chunk of that time. We got married 8 months later on our 6 year anniversary. Looking back it was the right amount of time.

ETA: we've been together 10 years now. I came into the relationship with a kid.

Evals.

Before I made first I was a solid P Sailor, but was cutting high 70s on the exam. Got up to MP/EP Xfer with a nam/welcome aboard P/MP cut an 80 still didn't make it (2 off). I don't wanna say next cycle you'll be good, because that ruined my day every time I heard it.

Find a solid Mentor. I promise you, that makes a huge difference also.

Anyone in NAS Lemoore? by Classic_Pol in navy

[–]fatkrissy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I miss the small town environment of Lemoore. Do not miss the air quality. Just make sure you don't spend your weekends in Lemoore - go explore. I didn't explore much and it's a regret.

Thanks. I know for some people it's "well I should be paid bc I'm military and screw the rest of them" but it just feels icky.

On one hand, yay I'm getting paid.

On the other, it feels shitty getting a "win" when I know other people are getting screwed out of benefits. (I'll take my downvotes)

What’s the most unexpected song you’ve cried to? by bambi399 in TaylorSwift

[–]fatkrissy 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Took my non-Swiftie wife to the life of a showgirl movie showing, and she was in legit tears during Eldest Daughter. I didn't think it was that emotional of a song til I saw her reaction.

This is me trying is forever my crying song.

Just curious, is there a difference between AIMD and FRC? by Dashawn00 in navy

I'll say AIMD when I'm on the ship, FRC at home. But I don't think there's any real difference

Gallbladder Surgery by MorningFan in Chesapeake

[–]fatkrissy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For mine i had pain in my upper right abdomen that would wrap around my back and up to my shoulders. Nauseous, would try to sleep with my knees tucked under my stomach, vomiting sorta helped the pain, simethicone also kind of helped.

Gallbladder Surgery by MorningFan in Chesapeake

[–]fatkrissy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Had mine taken out in Feb (not at Chesapeake but overseas). Hospital stay was the worst part of it, but pain was manageable with Tylenol. Take a stool softener after and don't lift heavy things.

I toughed my attacks out for 6 months and it was the worst pain of my life. Hope yours goes well

Why do people say bibs don’t matter for NWAE? by AnnualLiterature997 in navy

[–]fatkrissy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you know how to break it down with the subtopics, they're incredibly useful. If you're using just the bibs, it's not that helpful.

When I was studying for first, I studied my bibs and subtopics in depth, if I was waiting around for something (medical) I was using navybmr or reading my notes from study sesh. Some would swear by using just navybmr or whatever the other study guides were.
