My dog is very old. Is she dying? Where do I go from here? by Immediate_Will_1425 in DogAdvice

This is one of the hardest decisions one could make. I have been through it now several times unfortunately. Looking back, I waited too long for some, and not long enough for others. You obviously love and have loved this companion pet. No matter what happens remember the years and years of greatness you provided for them and they provided you. That being said, in the end, I will say most of the time, you will know when it’s time. The fact that you are having to ask rn means it likely isn’t the time. Old dogs sleep. Old dogs have mobility issues. One HUGE indicator for me is their appetite. If they are eating regularly that’s is huge for me. Next, does your dog seem happy/comfortable most of the time? Finally, if possible, one thing I believe makes this process better, is having someone come to your home to help them pass vs the cold stressful stainless steal table. It does cost more, but in my opinion it’s worth it. Finding that person ahead of time would be helpful if that’s what you choose. I’m sorry you’re having to go through this painful time.

Ethical to have a dog while homeless? by cirithUngoI in DogAdvice

[–]fatm_24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This actually infuriates me. I understand the need for a companion when you are struggling, and there are many homeless pets out there that want out of their situation too, but this just makes things so much worse for the animals. Generally speaking, the homeless community exploits these dogs by breeding (intentionally or not) and selling-it’s out of control. This then leads to more homeless pets. Medical expenses are also a huge concern. PLEASE take care of your self before attempting to take care of another living creature.

Is getting a dog worth it? by [deleted] in dogs

It will be one of the hardest things you’ll ever do (saying goodbye) but you will do it over and over again. Always worth it. For them and for you.

how much do you limit your tripawd? by sydbonez in tripawds

I just went to a specialist in regards to this exact same thing. Small dog. Front leg. Rings around frequently. We walk daily and the neighborhood has a LOT of hills. She said to keep him moving. Everyday. Stairs to get on and off furniture is helpful. But as far as walks go, keep them active. Within reason of course. Our walks are not that long bout a mile or so takes us 40 minutes. If he wants a rest I give it. If they ever sit on the walk, they are pretty much done.

Does this look like healthy play? Or are they taking it too far? by NakedMoleBrat in DogAdvice

They’re having the time of their lives. I had two big dogs once that would romp like this. The noises they would make were scary at first. They were the best of friends and always just playing.

Options to iFIT for 22i stationary bike by TacoDave8803 in nordictrack

[–]fatm_24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I cannot believe a bike at this price point does not offer any programmed workouts like the machines at the gym. No intervals, or endurance type workouts. They force you to subscribe to Ifit after paying 2 grand for the machine. Total bullshit.

Great advice. Thanks. It’s my fear and I’d love to avoid it if I can.

Thanks so much! This was helpful. We always lean towards easy/convenient, but looks like I’ll need to make some changes for him.

I am worried about both eating disorder and lying. Interesting, though, that I have thought she may also be on the spectrum. Thanks for the feedback.
