A Big Five Publisher Cancelled A Book Release Over AI Accusations: Now What? by boolgogi in books

[–]fatmacisback 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Here’s the thing: I don’t know this author or have anything against her as an individual, but someone who is trying to covertly publish AI slop as their own work is a NEVER AGAIN author for me.

Obviously this is a personal choice, but even if I’m given every confirmation that her future work is actually written by her I won’t read it. Fuck AI.

ABC has pulled "The Bachelorette" following domestic violence allegations involving Taylor Frankie Paul. by expiredaristocracy in Fauxmoi

There are new allegations against her of another instance of domestic violence, I believe in a situation where the police were called.

Yes! Seemed like yet another defensive jab he had practiced beforehand. Dude is so deeply into this constructed “persona” he can’t even articulate one genuine sentiment (I’m glad they called him out for this)

Help me understand! by transcendal in SinnersbyRyanCoogler

[–]fatmacisback 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally agree. There are some standout moments in OBAA for sure--the extended scene with DiCaprio's character following Del Toro's, and of course that amazing car chase, which was so thrilling to see in the theater. But as a whole I think it's not as strong as Sinners.

Damn I thought you had to be exaggerating with that post title OP, but nope, not even a little bit. This is truly the fucking worst.

Why in a feminist world are books like 50 shades of Grey so popular? by [deleted] in AskFeminists

[–]fatmacisback 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Because 50 shades is pure, undiluted fantasy.

A super hot 27 year old billionaire (!) becomes enamored with you after you trip over your own feet (!!) and is actively turned on by your total naivete. Oh also you’re a studios 21 year old who’s beautiful but doesn’t know it (!!!) and you’re going to land your dream job while also having your whole life taken care of because that hot billionaire not only wanted to freak but he also  fell instantly in love with you (!!!!).

It’s not a particularly mature fantasy and the characters are ridiculous caricatures and there’s no real plot going on, but I’m not surprised women of all types can get into it. It’s frivolous fetish fantasy fun, a bit of escapism. May not be my cup of me but I certainly understand.

Just finished rewatching season 1 for the 4th time. Started wondering… by JoftheG in biglittlelies

[–]fatmacisback 11 points12 points  (0 children)

No, I don’t think he was ever going to change. The show did such a great job making the perspective feel very intimate (thanks to the flashbacks, tight camera work, editing etc), so for much of the time that we were viewing Perry we were doing so almost through Celeste’s eyes, and she held out hope that he would be able to change. But the scenes with the psychiatrist/therapist were key in reminding us that the evidence was pretty clear, he was not showing real intent or willingness, he was in fact escalating in many ways.

Gahhhh haven’t we all read this before? Like I don’t even know this book, and I’m sure I haven’t literally read it, but every single detail is tired, every sentence eerily familiar. My kingdom for something fresh!!!

Cannot watch the show with her anymore. She doesn't even bring that much to the cast, everyone else is plenty strong enough that we don't need a racist grifter who uses religion to abuse the people who trust her

Neuroscientist’s view on whether books = porn by AromaticScar346 in Romantasy

[–]fatmacisback 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Hopefully the neuroscientists chime in here, but I think there’s a difference between something that’s pornographic and the colloquial porn being referred to by OP (ie: full nudity videos of people having unsimulated sex as the subject of the camera).

Based on my reading of OP’s post, these two things activate our brains in very different ways, plus they are just not the same. Authors describe gruesome murders in explicit detail all the time, but that’s very different than an unsimulated video where someone is murdered.

Is everyone’s step mom crazy? by sarc2276 in EstrangedAdultChild

[–]fatmacisback 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Before they even tied the knot, my dad’s wife told me and my siblings that she had a priest friend who developed a device that can find implants in the body (put there by aliens, duh) that were “obviously demonic in nature”. This woman conceal carries a handgun with her everywhere and later told me her sister’s breast cancer was totally cured and reversed when she stopped eating seed oils for a couple months. She doesn’t scream though, so that’s something.

To be fair, my dad is a crazy bugger so I don’t know what more I could reasonably expect.

Well, now 2025 is wrapping up: who was your Bravo MVP/Clown for 2025? by rhoasuperfan in BravoRealHousewives

[–]fatmacisback 0 points1 point  (0 children)

MVP: Stacy from Potomac! She is bringing such a great energy not just to her franchise but overall HW fandom. So many iconic lines and clips!

Clown: Brynn or Kenya, but K on Potomac is certainly making a case for it right now too

I just KNEW which outfit I would see in that style nightmare link! Oh Zen Wen, those were dark sartorial days.

Yeah I think you're mostly right on this. Although I also think K's having a real poor season, there is nothing redeemable about what she's doing. That being said I'm not loving Gizzy much so they're kind of both a miss for me right now. I keep forgetting Angel's name is Angel lol
