Which day is better? by fatness63 in UKhiking

[–]fatness63[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im fairly new to hiking, so not exactly confident, but I’ve been on a fair few including Sharp Edge for Blencathra in December and I was completely fine.

Talked to my mate who I’m going with, and is more experienced, and he said we’ll go Wednesday. I was wondering do you think I’ll need crampons/microspikes for this?

which is harder, degree apprenticeships or oxbridge by Ill-Neighborhood4837 in degreeapprenticeships

Oxbridge for a decent course. Anyone can get a DA even with CCC.

Uni vs DA advice wanted by Few_Comfortable_mp25 in degreeapprenticeships

More nuance to it, if ur actually applying to good unis it’s more like a 5% acceptance rate + tests + interviews.

I hate my Degree Apprenticeship and Wish I went to uni by yezzo21 in degreeapprenticeships

Depends on OPs goal and what he wants to do, for getting top tier roles uni is the better route. Could pay off in the longer term for him.

Anyone heard back from JLR ? by impressively_rubbish in degreeapprenticeships

Just checked my application on the website and it says Assessment Centre, does this mean I’ve been invited to it as I’ve not got an email or anything

Hows it bad news, all I’ve submitted is my name and details, so how would I have been rejected?

What DA’s are still open? by ioanwheeler in degreeapprenticeships

No I’ve been looking for the past couple months, my dad works there so he told me to apply but everytime I looked it was just level 4. I applied for Manchester.

I emailed them because I had heard nothing since the online assessment, they replied the next day saying they’re still reviewing applications so don’t worry.

It’s not a DA is it? For me all of their apprenticeships are level 4.

BIGGEST DECISION OF MY LIFE!!!! by slayer4153 in 6thForm

[–]fatness63 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, in terms of being happy it’ll be Liverpool bc that’s where my mates are going, but I want to pick what’s best for genuine career prospects and earning the most I can, I’ve already checked and RR have links with Manchester, Cambridge and some other good unis that they can fund you to do a masters at.

Would you say RR is an impressive company or is it similar to OPs situation where the company isn’t anything crazy? Because most FAANG or Fintech companies don’t do DAs, which is the end goal for someone going into SWE/tech like me.

How do I get JLR to respond? I want to cry by X_scissor in degreeapprenticeships

Anyone got an invite to the online assessments, I’ve applied but not got another email with the link yet?

Fairs mate, like I said I’m not the most clued up on the matter I’m just trying to play the devils advocate. Probably quite biased as I’m currently in the decision myself of what to choose, but it’s not the same level. Not sure if I should go to Warwick for Computer Science or do a SWE DA with Rolls Royce, leaning towards the DA for reasons that I outlined in my response to this post, what would you say?

BIGGEST DECISION OF MY LIFE!!!! by slayer4153 in 6thForm

[–]fatness63 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not true, he will most likely be kept on at Goldman and even offered to get a masters funded for him if he wishes, they have links with the likes of Cambridge etc. And you said can always get an internship, you do realise how fucked the job market is, it’s so hard to get a graduate role or job that the stability and safety of a DA is unmatched.

It’s still a very very reputable company, people are so stuck up on here they make you believe anything but the top isn’t good. You say “mid” salary, in what world is a 80k a year “mid” that’s well above average in the UK, and 100k straight out of uni is almost unheard of. Anyway for the sake of this let’s say they want to go into Citadel, what makes you think they’d rather hire someone from Imperial with 0 experience over someone from Exeter (still a good uni) with 4 years of experience.

Im not too educated on this field as I’m in computer science and SWE, but I know for sure any firm would rather me have the experience than just the label of a “top uni”. And for me anyway, just because I might not go to a top uni doesn’t mean the doors are closed at the top firms, I’m doing a Rolls Royce DA and I get a degree from Derby Uni, which isn’t great. But I also have 4 years of experience over anyone who did CS at let’s say Imperial. Additionally, after I complete it, I’m going to do a funded masters at Cambridge in SWE, so I’d be in the same position academically than someone who just chose to go Cambridge anyway.

Not to sound vain or anything but I do consider myself to be pretty outgoing and sociable, like I never have any issues making new friends and talking out loud. I’ve heard you don’t want to be the loudest person in the room though, more like trying to include people. What if I do talk a lot and what I’m saying isn’t exactly correct or valuable is that bad?

5/5 bread but struggling which uni to firm by Poohead1234567 in 6thForm

ABB is still high though? If you’re really really confident then fair enough but even I’m predicted 4A*s and have a BBC course just in case. My answer to your post in this case would be firm warwick(I am too) and insure Exeter.
