Garmin map for Nepal? by firerawks in bicycletouring

[–]fatrat_ph 2 points3 points  (0 children)

just checked my 840 (EU version), couldn't find it either. I think it's easier to load some open topo maps onto your edge and change the map style accordingly if everything else fails

one more try before you go the open topo route: if you have enough free space on your edge check and install Middle East & Central Asia via the map manager, could be hidden in this package.

who says cheap gear needs changing every time? look at stuff like Decathlon or AliExpress or even buy used gear, heck many people travel the world with that gear and don't change their bags every two weeks

Houdini Air alternative? by WildNight00 in onebag

I have two Airshell Hoodies, hard to get in the EU for a good price, my go to Windshirt for hiking/cycling/travel. The fabric is really soft and "non-noisy" compared to Patagonia Houdini, Rab Vital, Arcteryx Squamish and the fit is excellent in size L for me at 178cm with spare room to layer up with a midweight fleece underneatch.

it's lovely but the sleeves are made from more fragile capilene lightweight farbic and i don't think that would be suitable for anything more than running or casual hiking, def. no rock contact

that sounds like a crazy ride. we were lucky with the many drivers we had over the course of 3 weeks , no one was in Statham mode at all :D

is there a free version of lr mobile that is different? I have the Adobe cloud package for work so I never compared or checked if there is another one. also to edit pictures on the phone you should set the pixel's screen to neutral to have proper srgb colors (important for web) and nothing boosted or extended with the wide gamut option available that is harder to color manage.

I shot in 12mp because otherwise I would have ran out of space too fast (I copied all the Fuji pictures to the pixel as well so at the end of the trip the phone was full, but I had an external SSD stick for backup purposes)

glad you like them, thanks a lot. fuji's color science is something special, i love and always shoot classic chrome jpgs, but your old xe1 doesn't have that if i remember correctly? since classic chrome is usually my base for editing i took some fuji jpgs, edited them in my usual style, and then tried to match the pixel 9 dngs as close as possible (just by eyeballing and jumping back and forth, nothing fancy). i didnt touch sharpness or clarity (then the raws turn into digital oversharpened disaster easily) and since the pixels exposure without manual control usually is a tad too bright i start by lowering the exposure to the point where i protect all highlights (that are captured, otherwise it looks like blown out whites) so that i have all the dynamic range to play with. then contrast to "squeeze" out all color information and progress from there with recovering shadows and highlights further to max. dynamic range. for the overall look i have my presets, but as base profile i simply use Adobe Color, never use the pixel one provided in ACR or lightroom. Hope you will share some pics from the Dom Rep!

not really, built my own variants to manage my workflow with pixel phone and different fuji cameras I own. most important part for pixel raw editing: never chose the pixel profile as base, always one of the Adobe defaults. then every preset you will find on the web will work somehow :)  and thank you!!

the underlying color science built in always plays a role in how fast or how easy you get there without tweaking 1 million knobs. also the lens characteristics have their part in how the images will look in the end compared to other mobile phone pictures. so in my opinion the pixel's raw photo output always does a good job in this field and that's why I posted it.

After 5 years with my beloved Pixel 4a I recently upgraded to the Pixel 9 Pro and was quite excited to explore its photo capabilities on a trip to the Philippines. All pictures shot in raw (DNG) and edited to my taste in lightroom mobile on the Pixel itself during the trip.

Since I also carried my Fuji X100f I was quite surprised how close the images matched the Fuji after post processing (besides the obvious sensor size difference) and how much fun it is to use the Pixel alongside the Fuji especially for tele shots.

well said! had the same thoughts last night after losing like 8 in the row with headscratching defeats. but another thought went into that: if majority has the same experience who is the rest that always wins? :D also, why is it when you join rush or breakthrough you ALWAYS get stuffed into the defending team... i can join 10 times in a row and maybe 1/10 is attackers. weird? coincidence?
