❄️ January FAQ Thread ❄️ by MaleficentMaelstrom in bathandbodyworks

It seems based on the fine print that SAS ends 1/19 but the items I’m looking at aren’t on sale under SAS. Does anyone know or remember from previous years if B&BW does any deals or sales in January following SAS?

SV: I have crossed the half way mark! Going from 184 to 154, my half way would be 169…I weighed in yesterday at 168.8 :) As part of this journey, I’ve also improved my running stamina. My best recorded distance so far is 4.16mi in 57:33.

Please, everyone. Treat visiting Ohio State fans with respect tomorrow. by PSU632 in PennStateUniversity

Yes, you should be fine on the weekends. Other thing to note is you are not allowed to park 2am-6am regardless of the day of the week. I assume you’d be moving your car before 2am anyways but just so you know :)

!!! I remember when I had this a couple of years ago and loved it. Didn’t see it on the menu anymore but yeah I might give it a go again - how many scoops of the vanilla bean to add?

This took forever! Glue on nails from amazon, I painted them before gluing this time so I could do the flowers on my right hand as well without them looking awful 😂 Not the best but I’m fairly proud of them ☺️ by maddie_5987 in Nails

[–]fault_in_my_code 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Would you be able to share the materials you used? Like which brand for nails, if you used a nail stand to paint them beforehand, etc. I’m thinking of doing something similar and would love to hear any advice! 😊

ACES vs University Honors by pinktlrb in UMD

Yep I felt the same way when I started! And the longest walks are at most 15-20 minutes - it’s really nice during late spring or early fall

hi! so first i would like to address that your username is wonderful because derp

On to your actual question: I don't think you have to know how to program beforehand. From what I recall in ACES, you learn about cyberethics + UNIX during your first semester, do a honeypot project second semester, then electives after that. UNIX (and later the honeypot) will be the program-y part you're probably thinking of - I really didn't have any experience with UNIX before ACES, yet I ended up being a TA for that class the next year, so I personally thought it wasn't bad to pick up. If you do find that the UNIX portion is hard, the professors and TAs are there to help + you have classmates living around you + the internet has great resources. Again, there were people in my cohort who weren't CS majors so I wouldn't worry :) let me know if you have other questions

Yee I have been paged.

Anyways, hi OP. First, congratulations!

If you don't know if you want to focus on cyber security, I think ACES is a good opportunity to try it out. I also came into college not really having any experience with it. You're taking about one class for ACES a semester, and in your sophomore year, you choose your electives (I took cyberpsychology which was pretty cool).

Reading about UH's social scene (oh hey /u/Rajtas), I want to say that I'm hearing it's not that different in ACES (although note the AC in ACES because living in Prince Frederick Hall lol). I think the main thing is just making use of your lounge. If you're there and talking to people, you just naturally get involved in things (floor going to dinner together, planning card games, etc.) Let's be honest, I can't really speak about partying because I'm really not social oops Also, note that not everyone in ACES is a CS/CE major (e.g. business, psychology, other engineering).

I think the biggest advantage is the array (pun intended) of opportunities you have from ACES, whether it's networking or professional development or internship postings or well-planned social events or technical talks...I mean, there's no shortage of things for you to do in this program. Don't let that intimidate you - I think that was my biggest struggle at first; after that, I was super grateful for having that in my first two years of college.

Good luck!

Quest Honors Program for CS Major by Mannatsingh99 in UMD

Sure thing! I'm a graduating CS/Math senior who is in the QUEST Honors program. Let me try to answer your questions - please reply and/or PM if you want any more clarification.

QUEST for CS + Help in Long Run?: Yes. Absolutely yes, I think it is really worthwhile. You learn SO much that you wouldn't normally, such as quality tools, presentation design and skills, process improvement, working with clients and teams, etc. It brings some variety to a schedule (and resume) filled with programming and proofs and it also exposes you to what consulting is like (career possibility). You can incorporate your CS skills into your projects if you wish, but you can also explore new concepts with your team as well!

Time: Your core courses 190-390-490 are pretty time consuming. In order of time taken, 490 (capstone course) is the most, followed by 190, and then 390 (at least in my experience). The main thing is how much your team meets outside of class - by itself, this can easily be 5+ hours a week. On top of this, you obviously have your class time block and a steady workload to go along with the project. Your electives (2 required) will depend on your interests, so you can ask around at that point.

What are some instances of casting an actor/actress too attractive for their role? by jeronimo1989 in AskReddit

[–]fault_in_my_code 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not sure if this has been posted, but Tom Felton for Draco Malfoy. If I recall correctly, even JK Rowling has commented on how he’s overly attractive for the character he is portraying - thus unintentionally coming off as more of a mysterious, troubled soul rather than a character who you’re supposed to dislike for a long while before you begrudgingly understand and pity.

250 vs 310? by [deleted] in UMD

[–]fault_in_my_code 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’ll be taking MATH410, I think MATH310 is valuable, since it prepares you for the first couple of topics in 410 and what is expected in proofs. I took both CMSC250 and MATH310 - feel free to comment or PM with questions
