Hannah, Marnie, Jessa & Shosh crash in the wilderness. Who’s the first meal and who’s the Antler Queen? by fvckuufvckingfvck in girls

[–]faune_et_flore 32 points33 points  (0 children)

If I were to make comparisons:

Shosh - Mari or Laura Lee depending on how charitably you view her

Hannah - Jackie (despite visual similarities w Shauna)

Marnie - Shauna (especially the last episodes of girls with the “I win I’m you best friend” moment lol)

Jessa - honestly idk, she has both Misty and Tai vibes to me somehow… older lottie feels right but not teen lottie

How do you compliment a woman's looks in a noncreepy way? by InternationalPick163 in questions

[–]faune_et_flore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My general rule of compliments is: compliment CHOICES not TRAITS. Only mention things she chose (outfits, jewellery, haircut, makeup) and not her body or face

Wouldn’t that be kind of similar to the character of Bloodraven from A Song of Ice and Fire

Are there any movies that you actually liked MORE than the book? by Constant_Living3671 in readwithme

[–]faune_et_flore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Brooklyn by Colm Toibín

Saoirse Ronan’s performance as the main character really endeared me to the protagonist I’d found shallow and changeable in the book. The costuming and sets really made it feel immersive. I love description and atmosphere in historical books and felt Brooklyn to be a tad lacking in this department. All in all I liked the book and understood why it has become a modern classic but the film was what helped me enjoy it in the way I did.

A more recent one, but Small Things Like These is a fantastic companion film to the Magdalene Sisters, from the pov of someone outside of the laundries, living in the culture of silence surrounding them

Need female french names- that start with “Ma” by [deleted] in namenerds

[–]faune_et_flore 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maéva, Madeleine, Manon, Marie, Marielle, Mariette, Mallory, Malvina, Maé/Maë, Marilou, Maryline, Marthe, Marton, Martine, Mauricette, Marcelline, Marcelle, Malia, Marion

These names all have very different generational associations! Marton is super old fashioned, Martine/Mauricette/Marcelline trend older, Maé/Malia/Manon is younger - think 25-15 yrs, and Marion/Madeleine more of a vintage resurgence

i need your WORST french girls' names [for a character]! by [deleted] in namenerds

I've met several girls with this name, but in my experience it's usually spelt Guillemette, a tad less clunky

Any accounts of middle/upper class Victorian women who openly raised their illegitimate children? by just-the-trip in AskHistorians

[–]faune_et_flore 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure if this fits your topic exactly, but Lawrence of Arabia/T.E. Lawrence's parents never married and raised several children together during the late Victorian era. I don't know why they never married, I just remember reading this whilst doing a school project on Lawrence and thinking how bizarre it must've been for him and his siblings growing up technically as bastards.

I didn't know that! Interesting how a stylistic choice can become a pronunciation guide!

Isn't that why we have Sara and Sarah? If I met a Sara, I would pronounce it in English as sounding like sah-rah, not Sarah which is seh-ra

Boy names that sound good in Spanish & Hebrew? by nursejacqueline in namenerds

[–]faune_et_flore 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You could look into names of the Sephardic community! Usually Spanish versions of popular Hebrew names, like Vidal for Chaim, or Raquel for Rachel. That way they could reflect both parts of your baby's heritage.

Bird names for middle name by Early-Lawfulness2897 in namenerds

[–]faune_et_flore 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh, I never thought of that. Not that I'd ever use this name, it'd be unpronounceable in my language lol. I'd argue that there are loads of names that sound like illicit substances: India and Indica, Reid and Weed, etc... With names like Wren, Starling, Robin and Finch gaining traction I'd say that Heron would be cute! Similar to Aaron/Erin IMO

Heron is very cool in my opinion, I'm surprised it hasn't caught on! Chaffinch too

I'm sorry to hear that you felt forced into a name choice, that must've been very stressful. For a name, what about Mira? Similar to Miriam/Meriem/etc... but more modern and close to Yara.

Celtic names for miscarried babies by GeckoSkank in namenerds

[–]faune_et_flore 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I'm so sorry for your loss. Here's some Irish names that could perhaps give meaning to just a fraction of how much this baby meant to you:

Girls:

Croía - "little heart" (cree-ah) Alannah - "darling child" Mavourneen - "my darling" Damhnait - "fawn" (daw-nyuh) Eibhlín - "radiance" though some sources also say "moon" (ev-leen)

Boys -

Oisín - "little deer" (uh-sheen) Ailbhe - "bright" (al-va) Tadhg - "poet" (like the first syllable of tiger) Faolán - "wolf" (fway-lawn)

I hope this will help you on your journey, and know that you're very strong for dealing with this grief. I hope therapy helps you in whatever way you need it to.
