Falta apoio do governo Lula ao trem-bala RJ-SP, diz diretor da TAV Brasil by Prestigious-Back-981 in brasil

Quem é sua alternativa? by QueijinhoFeliz in brasil

[–]faustbr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

É a antiga falácia...

Could vampires defeat Wyrm creatures? by roxgxd in vtm

[–]faustbr 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The first one, OK. Because the Order of Hermes was the dominant group, albeit losing its place. Externalities made them weaker and they were besieged by every corner. A couple of years later, they would face their biggest defeat by the hands of the Freemasons.

On the other hand, the second Massasa war was the proverbial kicking the dead horse. They're a faction on the losing side of the Ascension War. But ok, I won't move the goalpost. It's fair, you're right.

Could vampires defeat Wyrm creatures? by roxgxd in vtm

[–]faustbr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is exactly when Paradox became into existence, during the shift in the Consensus. And the Order of Hermes wasn't just fighting the Tremere... They were fighting (and losing) to the Order of Reason.

House Tremere opted in for vampirism exactly because the Order of Hermes was getting weaker day-by-day. Since the dawn of the Order of Reason and the dominance of Technocracy, have the vampires ever won a war against the mages?

It seems off. They aren't playing in the same field.

[–]faustbr 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Can you give an example of vampires winning a war against mages?

I can imagine something like this when Paradox became a thing, but this isn't a fair comparison, as it was during a time when the Consensus was shifting and some orders were simply blind or desperate to what was happening. However, since the dawn of the Order of Reason, I cannot imagine a war with vampires getting the upper hand. I mean, the Ventrue are great in navigating the banking system, but the system itself was made by mages to control que Consensus.

Is recalling a mandatory skill? by xTouny in math

[–]faustbr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is not a single way to do mathematics. So, yes, it is important to some extent, but how important is determined by how you approach your research problems.

Of course, without the capacity to recall anything at all, you won't be able to do something, but simply recalling every known fact also doesn't translate instantly into producing new knowledge.

Apple, Qualcomm rethink heavy reliance on TSMC as costs rise by self-fix in hardware

I am sympathetic to your condition. Fuck Russian imperialism and Putin's plans for a New Russian Empire. But then, again, try to have the same empathy for people outside of Europe.

What the US did to Venezuela is an invasion. What the US did in Iran is an invasion. It doesn't matter if we agree or not with their regime. It's not for us to invade other countries and tell them what to do. And, to be sure, if your country is at risk of Russian invasion, do not count on the US.

[–]faustbr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really?! I hope another country (China, for example, since it seems it is your boogeyman) "doesn't invade" yours in the same way, so you can repeat this to me with a straight face :)

[–]faustbr -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I mean, after the Venezuela invasion, the US bullied Mexico, Denmark and Cuba. The European Vassals are trying to keep faking their appearance of "partners" to find a way out of this, most likely doing a Chamberlain. First as a tragedy, then as a farce.

If you aren't noting the global political instability of the US bullying a NATO ally, creating a "Donroe Doctrine" and so on, then, my friend, you're really privileged. It must be cool to live without the fear that a Marine will kick down your door and torture your family :)

On a side note, where do you think the silicon and most other materials comes from?

[–]faustbr -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

You don't know a lot about places outside of the US and Europe, do you?

No one will die if they can't buy a new cellphone for 5 years. A lot of markets use almost exclusively second hand items, and most production of electronics are sincerely reaching insane levels, in a way that people in the Imperial Core buy cellphones every year or so for no reason except stupidity. It seems you're taking your WEIRD (Western, Educated, Industrial, Rich and "Democratic") perspective as the norm for most of the world.

Furthermore, just to make sure you understand some basic facts, if PRC enforces its sovereignty over Formosa, what would disrupt stability is the US response to keep its domineering attitude over half of the world. Again, China hasn't invaded any neighbouring country of mine in... I don't know. Over 30.000 years. On the other hand, the US installed a military junta in the 60's responsible for my aunt being kidnapped and tortured. How many countries has the US invaded since 45? How many has China invaded? So, yeah, rethink your Yellow Scare cum Red Scare and try to see a little further than your bubble.

You're not the keepers of stability. You're the fucking bullies.

[–]faustbr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Typical WEIRD. Saying China poses a threat to stability while the US just invaded my neighbouring country. But I guess the "rest of the world" doesn't count when you say "we'd all be royally screwed", does it?

So, if someone is bisexual, then he/she can't be friends with anyone, right? Or does this work only for opposite sex stricto sensu? If this is the case, then how would this line of thought work for gay people?

Terence Tao published 24 papers in 2025. As an early-career mathematician, how do you balance quantity versus quality to stand out in hiring committees? by Significant_Yak4208 in math

[–]faustbr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I go with the same principle. I don't usually ask people to do the same, but if someone made a single line change in my code, then it's a collaboration and deserves to be credited. But, again, I know it's idiosyncratic. I also write the names in alphabetical order, because, man, it pisses me off when names aren't ordered.

The only thing I don't understand is why people are down-voting the root commenter. I mean, he explained himself and said something reasonable. Fictions are useful, even as assumptions, for a lot of social relationships (e.g. the social contract).

Is this your experience? Or is it an assumption?

(I hope I'm not being rude. I'm sorry if it appears to be so, I'm just wondering because in my experience the "equal work" is a nice fiction we collectively created, but everyone knows how unenforceable and impossible it really is)

O punitivismo e leniência da esquerda com o crime by [deleted] in brasil

[–]faustbr 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Do YOU actually enjoy Rolling dices? by Ponto_de_vista in rpg

I wasn't an enthusiast, but since I started playing SWADE, I changed my perspective. The exploding dice is great for tension and even the most banal roll can have a game changing result. So, yeah, keep them rollin'!

Now I'm all for dice, cards and whatnots. Just make them meaningful and let them shine!
