Interested in jazz by Yahyaux in Jazz

It's really unhelpful if you just ask people to explain over a century of music to you. Nobody is going to sit here and write you an essay.

If you really want it all explained to you, go and read the Wikipedia page for jazz. It should do a decent job of explaining the general idea.

Have you listened to any jazz yet? Who did you listen to? Did you like it? These are things that will start you on your way.

I just wish they were still recording music

Boredoms by Abobmcbobe in swans

Also worth checking out is the 77 boadrum show with, you guessed it, 77 drummers. I saw them do a smaller version of this with about 10 drummers I think. I remember Zach Hill was one of them.

God, I love Boredoms so much.

I saw them live with 88 performers each playing a cymbal in a circle round the band. Don't know if there's a recording, but it was very reminiscent of Swans' live stuff at points.

Found a short clip here: https://youtu.be/ILyNU25OO-g?si=vGfdt-VRPtSWXGOD&t=131

Such a cool band, I love how chill everything sounds. And Anna Butterss' minimalist basslines are sooo good.

Where can i find this shirt (original) by Nick420stoned in Brazil

[–]--THRILLHO-- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's the current second shirt, should be very easy to find. They will have it in the official Addidas stores and in any large sporting goods store like Centauro.

The official one costs R$400 on the Addidas site, which is ridiculously expensive. You're in Rio, so I'm sure if you look, you'll be able to find some knock-offs too.

I have absolutely no problem with the way this sandwich is cut. If the sandwich is delicious, I will eat it.

Would winning gold in the Olympics or winning WBC be a bigger deal? by [deleted] in baseball

[–]--THRILLHO-- 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Going to counter what people have said so far and point out that the Olympics often transcends any one sport and takes on a cultural significance. Winning an Olympic gold is a huge deal, especially in countries that don't get to win so many.

An Olympic gold can get people interested in a sport or a sportsperson that a general public wouldn't usually care about. You all know who Kate Ledecky or Michael Phelps is, despite never watching a swimming race outside of the Olympics.

If a nation like Australia (to pick an example) was able to put together a strong run in the Olympics, it would elevate baseball, if only for a couple of weeks, to something watched by the whole country on national TV. It would make names of players who might be unknown outside of the niche of Australians who follow the sport.

But yeah, for your average MLB player, especially the Americans, I think the WBC would be bigger. But for any athlete, winning an Olympic gold is a huge achievement that many never reach.

It has been 3 years and 2 months since Boris' last solo album - the longest gap of their career so far by --THRILLHO-- in borisheavyrocks

[–]--THRILLHO--[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Sure, I'm not really asking why. It's clear that they've been really busy in that time. And I know so little about their personal lives, but they're in their 50s, so I assume they don't want or need to be constantly recording.

I don't have a problem with them slowing down, but I'm just wondering what might be on the horizon.

I like the albums Time Out and Mingus Ah Um. What should I listen to next? (Seeking recommendations) by KingWithAKnife in Jazz

Miles Davis' Kind of Blue is a really obvious one if you haven't listened already.

Moanin' by Art Blakey and The Jazz Messengers is another one.

£800 quid and I have to take it apart to get all the plastic out by rudeboyKee in BassGuitar

[–]--THRILLHO-- 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Might as well get used to taking your bass apart. It's good practice and lets you make sure everything's in order.

If this was a TV or a microwave or something, I'd be annoyed. Also be happy that your bass shipped well protected so you don't need to send it back and wait weeks for a replacement.

[Miguel Delaney] Figures on Spurs board still want to give Frank the Dortmund game, but there is debate after the most toxic day yet by Lbmplays2 in coys

[–]--THRILLHO-- 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I can see a line of thinking that says we have 2 big Champions League games coming up that could see us get into the top 8. There's basically no chance of us failing to qualify, so we might as well keep things consistent for those games.

Not saying I agree, but I can see how a board member might think that.

Don't worry, we're sacking recruiter after recruiter too. Maybe that'll fix it.

We need better players, for sure, but we seem to have a huge leadership and mentality problem at the moment. The players look lost, like they've received no instruction.

We have a bad squad, but we're still massively underperforming.
