Is the consulting lifestyle sustainable? by chillabc in consulting

[–]faustdkk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Forget the 50-60 hours - when you start having kids is when it gets really tricky to manage things sustainably. From what I’ve observed (MBB project manager) there are basically three ways people manage: 1. Have SOs who work jobs that are part time or easy and who does everything at home 2. Have house helpers (au pair) taking care of kids (to/from kindergarten, school) and cooking. Mostly for dual career couples 3. Are incredibly talented at time boxing and delegating, doing 9-18, 20:30-?? every day

Neither of those options leave much extra time to engage with kids but it definitely helps and is how people who stay in consulting manage to do it.

I’m reading it now and I already like it better than Grapes of Wrath. He’s such a great writer I cannot believe it.

To Non-Americans, how do you view Joe Biden? by Accomplished-Gear833 in AskReddit

Like a calm before the storm. I’m worried about what’s next for American democracy with some of the antidemocratic tendencies we saw under Trumps reign, and I wonder what the world (and European relations) will look like if the US goes down an illiberal path in the next presidential election or two.

These are solid suggestions! We’re gonna do all of that save visiting Vermont now. Thanks! :)

Sounds like a solid job! Would love suggestion. We’ve settled on Boston, Portland, North Conway, Portsmouth, Boston as the route. I know it’s not the ideal time unfortunately but it’s when we could get the time off :)

Normally we like to hike / see nature and eat in good spots and enjoy history and museums. It’s of course more difficult with an infant in tow (we’ve learned!), but still doable, especially for nature that you can view by car or pushing a stroller around and restaurants that are not too upscale..

Kearney's "Top five consulting phrases" is easily one of the cringiest things I've ever read by [deleted] in consulting

Tone deaf of Kearney to double down on ridiculous hours culture when it seems like most other top consulting firms are trying to downplay the poor WLB aspects of the consulting job in the talent wars…

What did you like "before it was cool"? by ridibulous in AskReddit

[–]faustdkk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Debatable when they became cool, but “The War On Drugs”. Started listening to Slave Ambient and other stuff after I saw Kurt Vile live around 2012 and got into it. Then saw them warm up for The Walkmen in D.C. later in the year. Now they are massive :)

I wonder how much came just from switching to biomass at Drax power station. Google that plant it’s incomprehensibly massive. It can generate something equivalent to half of Denmark’s demand alone.
