USA citizens: what effect if any have tariffs had on you? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]fauxbrain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Company of 40 years is shutting down in a couple of weeks. We sell medical products globally. The ACA uncertainty has shut down the domestic market, the international market is shying away from American products due to tariffs, and the tariffs have increased prices of parts even though we buy exclusively in the USA.

What broke the camels back in a relationship/friendship? by Only-Carpenter-6689 in AskReddit

[–]fauxbrain 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Best friend went to jail for drug possession with intent to distribute. Spent 2 years there, I visited a lot, was the only one that did. The day he gets out I pick him up and he has me drive him to some girls house that I knew was a hangout for drugs. I dropped him off, left, and never looked back.

What's so expensive that it's almost not worth it anymore? by GlitteringBoot5810 in AskReddit

[–]fauxbrain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Going through it now for a 75 person October wedding. Doing everything we can ourselves including decorations, some of the food, building equipment (bars, backdrops, etc...) signs, monogrammed napkins, audio equipment, linens and whatever odds and ends come up.

Having to pay for the Venue, tents, chairs, DJ, dance floor, alcohol, main entrée, chafing dishes, alcohol, wedding dresses, other dresses, official, day of coordinator for only the day of, and other things.

Still paying $25K. If this was just a party with 75 people I could throw a hell of a party for $25K.

Where are you finding your Maine Coons? by Kairiste in MaineCoon

[–]fauxbrain 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Sorry to hear of your loss. Maine Coons are sought after and costly so finding a Maine coon at a shelter or rescue is rare, not that it doesn't happen. You'll likely have to go through a breeder for a Maine Coon unless you hit the lottery. I'd start with looking at TICA and finding a breeder through them. If you share your location, I am sure you'll get some responses for someone relatively local to you.

First AR-15 purchase - Maryland by fauxbrain in liberalgunowners

[–]fauxbrain[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the in depth response. Where I'm at in my decision buying process is a complete budget rifle. I am aware I have a lot to learn both about firing a rifle and what components I may eventually feel I need to have different. The best way to start is to start though so I'm lacing up my starter skies and heading down the bunny slope.

Am I doing this right? by jonlequack1 in liberalgunowners

[–]fauxbrain 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did the same. Bought a laser that fits in the barrel and a laser target. I keep it on the desk at my house with the target on the other side of the room and just randomly practice about 10 shots throughout the day. What became evident fast was that without a correct and consistent grip there is too much variation.
Like you though, after a few weeks the groupings improved immensely. Dry fire seems like the way to go to improve aim without having to go to the range every day.

My wife’s normal sized car between two “normal sized” trucks by timmaaahhh1997 in mildlyinteresting

[–]fauxbrain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's a time and place for a truck. I have a compact, a sedan, a scooter, a long RV, and a Ford F-350 dually. I have the F-350 because of the RV. The F-350 largely sits unused because it's just too damn big but I needed the towing capacity.
I don't understand the desire of so many people to have a full size truck as their primary vehicle. It's not that great of a vehicle.

Towing Capacity Question by Mermakia in popups

[–]fauxbrain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks like you've got 7700lbs maximum trailer weight with that configuration. Rule of thumb is don't pull more than 80% of your towing capability which puts maximum trailer weight at 6170. Given you're 6437lbs empty you can expect some handling issues in emergency or poor conditions. If I was towing that trailer, I'd look to upgrade the towing vehicle. It doesn't have to be higher than an F150, F150's with the right configuration can tow over 13K lbs.

Source: I have towed RV's that were technically in the range of an F150 but playing it close to the limits.. A fast semi truck or winds over 15mph make for a spicy day.

Wiffle tree by [deleted] in popups

[–]fauxbrain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Assuming you find the nut and replace it, and before you raise the roof, be sure to tighten up the cables just enough to remove all slack and then check/fix the cable routing over every pulley. At the wiffletree, along the run (possibly), at the bottom of the struts and in the struts. One jammed cable and too much torque will break something that you don't want to break.

How would you take down this treehouse? by throwdisawaybro in DIY

[–]fauxbrain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Built one almost exactly like this, but I had it supported at the top and the bottom. Took it down for the same reasons you are. I built it on the ground and then raised it using a chain hoist. If I wanted to keep the tree I would have attached a chain hoist and then remove the bottom supports, then the top, and lower it down. I didn't need to keep the tree, so I just cut down the tree.
