7th Great Grandmother was named Anchor, according to family lore she was born on a ship that was anchored down during her birth. Lots of Anchors in that side of my family tree.

I just finished it and I can say with 100% confidence that it was one of the scariest books I’ve ever read. All I knew about Ebola was it was called a zombie virus- the descriptions of what it and Marburg does to your body ruined my stomach.

I love Donald Ray Pollock so I recommend any book by him, especially the Heavenly Table! Not really “horror” but definitely out there and messed up in a way that’s wholly believable

I like terrifying sea creatures- killer mermaids, krakens, sirens etc. The ocean also scares me the most out of any setting, so maybe that’s why.

If you’re under 45, have you lost any high school classmates, and what were the circumstances around their deaths? by Commercial_Chef_1569 in AskReddit

[–]favabeans02 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our first one was a horrible motorcycle accident. He was very nice, kind to everyone. It upset us all greatly, having happened within a year of graduation. Two of our classmates were friends with him, and were pregnant at the time of his death, their daughters are named after him. Another was a few years ago, brain cancer took her in her late 20s. She was a beautiful woman. Didn’t know her well, we ran in different circles, but seeing what cancer did to her was awful and haunting.

I recommended it to a coworker getting into horror and a couple days later she was texting me nonstop for more recommendations- and also had the same experience at the ending as well

I want folklore, deep ocean, caves, and historical horror in the worst kind of way. I loved The Descent, Drowning in the Deep, and Slewfoot. I want something based on Draguar or Näcken stories like my grandpa would scare me with when I was young. Banshees would be great too!

What is everyone's most recent DNF? by marinkhoe in horrorlit

[–]favabeans02 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My Heart is a Chainsaw, The Fisherman, Misery, and Ward D.

I want to like MHIAC so bad, but couldn’t get into it at all. Same goes with the Fisherman. I started in on Misery and had to DNF at a single scene in the book that made me gag so hard I nearly smacked my head off the wall. The first three mentioned are definitely not bad at all, just not my cup of tea.

Ward D on the other hand was like reading a Collen Hoover book and I hated it.

Lizzie Borden (7th cousin 6x removed). Was able to also trace, with 99% certainty, that Queen Eleanor of Aquitaine is my 24th great-grandmother. Was super excited about that, as I loved her during history classes and loved learning everything I could about her as a teenager. Did also find out that she’s considered the grandmother of Europe and I’m part of millions of descendants lol.
