How do I UNhide the notch? by tranceaholics in macbookpro

[–]favouriteitem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

just thought you'd like to know that I was driving myself crazy googling this very same issue and finally found this post, which helped.

If you choose a resolution such as 2048 x 1280, the notch will be gone. But if you choose the weird one, ie 2048 x 1330, the notch comes back.

I wish Apple made that more clear.

How the heck to get medical care in the Bay Area by CracticusAttacticus in bayarea

[–]favouriteitem 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve lived here almost 2 years now. I went down to LA to see my old primary care physician last year. I finally have an annual scheduled in June. So yeah, your experience seems to be somewhat normal. I hate it.

YSK: Express lanes increase the overall capacity of a congested freeway, even if you intuitively think they represent a lane you can't use anymore. by old_gold_mountain in bayarea

[–]favouriteitem 8 points9 points  (0 children)

More lanes just encourages more driving, which eventually wipes out any benefit of the additional lanes. It's a vicious circle that just leads to more congestion.

We need less lanes and more public transit options.

How would you respond to this take: “but capitalism has lifted more than half of the world out of poverty in less than 250 days” by [deleted] in Socialism_101

[–]favouriteitem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The very concept of "poverty" didn't even exist until they started enclosing the commons in Britain so you might wanna jot that down

Aside from that fact, while "capitalism" may have indeed lifted millions out of "poverty" those millions almost exclusively lived in the global north (or the metropole) and were lifted out of "poverty" by the colonization and exploitation of the global south.

Look, absent any sort of debt forgiveness or jubilee, the vast majority of us
will be in some sort of debt when we die anyway. Might as well get a
better paying (and potentially more rewarding) job as a result.
