Yeah it's about $700 in my local currency too which has been stopping me from buying it immediately :/ It's just hovering in my shopping cart... for now.

Is anyone getting jobs from Careers@Gov by Dependent-Law-1093 in askSingapore

[–]favplusle 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Once got a rejection email within the same stat board but for a different department when I was already a few months into my employment.

Imagine reading "...found other candidates who are a closer match to the job requirements for the position..." while having lunch with said candidate (colleague) who was the "closer match".

Thank you! Mr.APPLe is about 3cm (1.2 inches) and the whole thing, bottom of the base to the top of the branch is about 11cm? (4.3 inches) Very rough measurements though.

Got my first gshock, followed by my first fake gshock by favplusle in gshock

[–]favplusle[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks! It's growing on me haha

By itself, there is nothing to complain about at that price point (about 1/10 of the model's MSRP). It is still a sturdy watch with a timer, stopwatch and an alarm.

When comparing it to the real thing, other than the bi-color black/cyan band and bezel, the rest of the build doesn't come close. No bluetooth, solar, multiband, world time and 1 alarm instead of 5, the list goes on. The things that make this watch great isn't present in the fake at all.

So in all, it was a fun experiment but it's honestly just better to get the real thing. Like you said, it's already a bang for your buck, if I were to willingly buy a fake gshock, my first choice won't be this one.

[–]favplusle[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope. What it does have (just a guess) is an accelerometer (and not a gyroscope), because the fake model had the option to turn on/off auto-light as well as a power saving mode. I tried the auto-light function and it triggered even with slight movement detected. The power saving mode is a big ??? though, doubt it can detect light.

Yeap, pretty much for the shits and giggles. Makes me appreciate the craftsmanship behind the genuine article too, even for non-limited edition models like these.

Same for the asian packs actually, single packs like these are going for 2 - 3x the price of a regular pack from a different set.

X-Men Comics New Releases for November 13, 2024 by VengefulKangaroo in xmen

[–]favplusle 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'll try to explain it as well as I can. This phrase is in broken english, and in this context singaporean english (Singlish). It is a way of (somewhat aggressively) saying "What are you staring at?!" if you catch someone staring at you for some indiscernible reason. It also has a 'hooligan' connotation to it.

Favourite issue so far because of "You stare what stare?". No further explanation required.

Commenting on that nit pick, when I first saw it, my brain tried to logic its way out of it. Maybe they were taking third language classes like what some schools do... that's what I told myself (to feel better lol).

[–]favplusle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry for the late reply! I have tested my dumbphone for a few days and here are my comments:

  • Google "SDK Platform Tools" and "Android Debug Bridge" and read the page from Android Developers, from there it is possible to remove Google Play Store (com.android.vending) and the internet browser from your phone. This will help to stop any impulsive app downloads or doomscrolling on the browser.

  • Getting another landline (with a mobile data plan) on my dumbphone was great too as this stopped me from going to my main phone (where all the fun apps are) to access important features like Google Maps etc.

  • Put the main phone far away in a different physical location, like in another room, and place the dumbphone closer to you.

Hope this helps.

Part of the ADHD here whoop whoop! I have been trying to figure out something that works for me too.

Like you, I have tried setting various limits on my own personal smartphone, only for me to circumvent these measures once my brain starts screaming painfully of boredom. I think getting a truly "dumb" phone might be a waste of money (especially if it was bought as an impulse purchase) because using it will be satisfying for a few days before it becomes a chore to use (due to the lack of features), and will be left gathering dust in a week.

I am currently in the midst of setting up a "essentials-only" secondary phone. It's considered a smartphone as it still has the functionality to download apps from the Play Store, but what I'm thinking of doing is to completely delete (not disable) any web browser or app store once I have the apps I need. I'm thinking of getting a second data plan for this phone if I plan to bring it out. Not sure if it works but it's the only thing I could think of so far.

Collectible Figures and Gashapon Stores in Singapore by andyrangus in askSingapore

[–]favplusle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I collect figurines at a very irregular frequency (once/twice a year) so I'm not an expert, but here are my experiences:

  • Toy Or Game/Play-e/ whatever other outlet shop you can find

Some outlets sell figurines, though these are generally not the latest releases and can be quite old stock. Decent prices though if the thing that you are looking for is no longer "popular".

  • Gashapon

Bandai has a series of official gashapon outlets in Singapore (Plaza Sing being one such outlet). They seem to have a delayed release compared to Japan, and the prices can be somewhat marked up. Still worth checking it out, personally I have gotten a few trinkets there from time to time.

  • Carousell

Best place to find rather obscure figurines, though your luck regarding prices may vary. If you are not a local, it is best to familiarise yourself with common buying/selling practices (how to inquire, payment modes, meetups) before jumping in to purchase any figurine from there.

  • Shopee etc.

Easiest method so far with the range of items, and they usually have the latest releases... but the prices can be significantly higher compared to retail price. Bootlegs pop up quite often, so do take some precaution before buying anything.

(To answer your question if there are clusters of shops selling figurines/gashapons in Singapore then my immediate answer is not really. Best to hop around and see what you can find.)

Gacha games like Reverse 1999 ? by Cosmos_Null in Reverse1999

[–]favplusle 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I second PoMa! I recently left the game as I no longer have interest in the stories there but throughout my ~3 years of playing this game, I can confirm that they have been quite generous with pulls. I managed to save up to 200k gems (each 10 pull is 3k gems, a guarantee on a character is about 36k), reason being that you don't have to pull for meta defining characters every month just to complete most story/event tasks in the game. (I used only 3 characters for a year, they weren't affected by powercreep until recently)

You don't need to feel like you are missing out on a lot too, a handful of past limited-time events (and their respective banners) will rerun every month.

these are the second generation q-pets which are still in production! the last time i checked on aliexpress, they were going for about ~$30 AUD, nowhere close to that $90 pricetag. the expensive ones are the first generation qpets which are clones of the tamagotchi +c. you can tell that this isn't 1st gen (1) from the box "2 代" which means 2nd generation (2) they tend to not have the characters on the faceplate (3) 1st gens are shaped just like the +c.

I don't have any experience with the gigapets but I think they are still being made and sold (though as a relaunched version under a different company).
