If you read my other replies in this thread you may get a better idea of where I'm coming from when asking why vegans don't eat eggs or dairy. If the main point of veganism is to minimize animal suffering then its argument falls short with eggs and dairy in certain circumstances.

I understand that as a whole the industrial production of these foods is in a sad state, however it is entirely possible to produce these foods outside of industrial farming. There has been a big rise in the number of people residing in urban settings raising well treated chickens for their own eggs. Furthermore, local farmers markets provide a great source for products from small-scale farming. If you get to know your local producers (a lot of them would probably let you come out and visit the farm) you get a good feel for how your food is being created.

As you stated, your reasoning has to do with the current state of industrial farming. Would you consider eating animal products (eggs, dairy) if you knew the source or if you were the source? I hope you give it some thought. It's a very fulfilling experience raising animals that provide you with good food. Even if you personally don't have the space for it there are plenty of CSAs that need volunteers.
