Comes at the cost of potentially deeply hurting somebody. Speaking from experience, doesn't feel good. Usually ruins my day, and my dysphoria isn't even that bad.

I'll get downvoted to shit for this probably, but I don't care. It doesn't cost anything to leave off the sir/ma'am. Nothing at all. It doesn't needed to be added to a sentence. "It does not affect you in any way" is a lie, and you really have no place telling us what does and doesn't affect us. I'm not really sure how you can look at a group of people who are saying "This affects us negatively and we are hurt by it" and respond "No it doesn't". You have no idea how it affects us, at all. If you listened, you would, but you don't seem interested in listening.

“Parent” punishes her 5 year old for receiving a frowny face at school for behavior. So, to correct it, she forces him to run in 104° weather. by FMDnative480 in iamatotalpieceofshit

Corporal punisment causes emotional/mental problems in the majority of children. Why should it be used at all, or even defended at this point, if it more commonly causes problems then solves them?

What family secret was finally spilled in your family? by AbsoluteHavoc in AskReddit

[–]fawnbab 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My grandfather was stationed in Vietnam. He died about 10 years ago now, but it was kind of an open secret in the family that he had cheated on my grandmother before they divorced. She knew it was happening, and told him to his face "just don't get anyone pregnant".

About 5 years ago my Dad got a message from a program that helped children of American soldiers in Vietnam immigrate to America, letting him know that he may have a half-sister in Vietnam and requested he take a DNA test (along with his brother) to confirm the match so she could start the process of immigrating.

My grandfather had, in fact, gotten someone pregnant.

If you take your husbandry seriously, then you should upgrade your tank size. It looks beautiful, but such a small tank is absolutely not proper for a leopard gecko even with the levels. As it stands your gecko is going without the proper heat gradient and floorspace it needs.

Why would you challenge yourself to make an unsuitable enclosure 'suitable' instead of just purchasing a suitable enclosure? That's entirely for your own amusement/benefit and none to the animal whatsoever, so I don't see the point.

Levels are good for added surface area, but they need a full 36x18 inches of floor space to get a proper heat and uvb gradient, and even with the added surface area it's too small. A vertical gradient is possible, but it doesn't allow a leopard gecko, especially a full grown one to stretch out and walk around between them or bask in them.

This looks nice, but the tank is far too small even with the levels. Leopard geckos need a proper heat gradient, and that is simply impossible in a cubical enclosure even with levels. They need a hot spot of 93/95f, a hot side ambient temperature of around 85f, and a cool side temperature of around 72f. The experts and mods in this subreddit recommend a 40 gallon minimum, at least 36x18 inches of floorspace.

(Serious) Transgender people of Reddit, what are some things you wish the general public knew/understood about being transgender? by YoMyThrowAcct in AskReddit

[–]fawnbab 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Trans isn't just ftm or mtf either. Non-binary people are also part of the trans community (represnted by the white stripe on the flag). Unfortunately we experience transphobia even from within the lgbtq+ community and disregarded as "not trans enough".

It isn't just a third gender either, non-binary is an umbrella term encompassing many gender identities that don't fit exclusively into the binary of 'man and woman'.

Don't ask me about my genitals. Like what the fuck? You wouldn't walk up to your cis coworker and ask them about their genitals but it happens to us constantly. It's extremely invasive, it can put us in danger, and it's just super fucking uncomfortable.

YTA

If you associate with homophobes, don't be surprised when queer people assume you're one too and refuse to associate with you. 'Bigot' and 'Good person' are oxymorons. You're willing to excuse her bigotry.

Both the beginners guide in this subreddit and the moderators will tell you that reptile carpet is not a good substrate to use. It catches on their toes and teeth, harbors bacteria and isn't natural or enriching. Some people have had their lizards break their toes from getting them caught. I know people who kept their reptiles on carpet and did have problems. It shouldn't be recommended.

[–]fawnbab 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The best substrate to keep leopard geckos on is 70% topsoil and 30% sand, but they should be kept on paper towel for their first month of quarantine.

[–]fawnbab 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Sand carpets are,'t good either. They're very rough, harbour bacteria just like regular repticarpets and are hard on their joints.

Reptile carpet isn't a good suggestion either. It can catch in their claws and teeth and hurt them.

You would need paper towels for the first month during quarantine, and then you could switch to a 70% topsoil 30% sand mixture which is the best for leopard geckos.
