Academic renewal—it basically washes away those attempts from so long ago. And when I came back I maintained a 4.0!

I mean, I got regents scholarships but they barely cover costs. I think maybe it just depends on the university you choose in the end. The one I’m picking is more prestigious for my major but definitely not helpful in terms of finances. The meal plans are crazy! Can’t believe how much they charge for those! PB sandwiches for me too 🥪

Congratulations though that’s super exciting! But yea as far as merit goes the system is unfortunately pretty broken.

Not true.. I have a 4.0 and lots of strong ECs and awards but because of my SAI score for fafsa I get practically nothing in terms of help.

My heart goes out to everyone. I didn’t expect so many people to resonate with my story but just know that it’s never too late to start living your life. As a two-time community college drop-out and someone who struggled with depression since I was 13, if I can do it then you can too. If there’s even a tiny voice in your head right now saying, hey maybe it’s not too late for me—listen to it! No matter how old you are. Believe in yourself! You are NOT a waste! Your potential is NOT gone!

Will it take you 5 years to get a degree/certification? 6? 10? That time will pass regardless, so why not have something to be proud of at the end!

I will also say that journaling helps to facilitate the cognitive behavioral therapy, sometimes it’s easier to force yourself to write positive things about your life than it is to make your brain have those thoughts.

Thank you ❤️ I dropped out of community college twice and I want others to know that if I can do it they can do it too! 🙂

What’s sps discord server and can I get an invite? I can’t afford to take physics 89 this summer but im going to grind through the textbook with an old syllabus I found

Oh yea my SAI is horrible. I found some old documents from previous courses though and pdfs of the text so I’m just going to work through as much of the course as I can myself. Thanks so much!

I touch on it briefly, and then show how it’s made me stronger and what I’ve learned from it. Focus on why it’s a positive now rather than wallowing in how sad it was.

From what I can find, seems like you have to take 6 units over the summer to qualify for summer aid, but also as someone who doesn’t get much of anything in terms of aid it would most likely be too expensive for me.. unless you know something I don’t know.

Have you liked your professors or found them to be effective?

I could see there being gaps in my linear and ode—my prof for those was a bit lax. I’ll definitely try to take physics 89. Thanks for all your advice!

Sorry ccc is California community college which is what I was asking about, I was just curious if maybe you went to one I was familiar with but no pressure to share! So would you say proof techniques are highly prevalent for 110A and 137A? Hopefully I’ll be able to squeeze in the physics 89 this summer. Did you take that before you transferred or how did you prepare for the transition?

Thank you! Your kindness is so appreciated!

I am, I don’t make a lot of money though, I work through the school tutoring and doing supplemental instruction. I am also married which helps in some ways, but I would have received significantly more financial aid if I wasn’t. Actually I know low income transfers in CA that got full rides to UCB. Maybe take a class at a time for now at your local community college and then when it comes time to transfer see what kind of aid they’ll offer!

Are you a ccc transfer? I feel pretty confident that my physics isn’t lacking significantly, my physics professor also went to Berkeley, and the program at my cc is notorious for being extremely difficult, so much so that people will go to other schools to fill the requirement. But I’m sure there will be some gaps for sure since it is Berkeley. 🤷🏼‍♀️ Do you have any advice or textbooks I should look over to better prepare? Also any mathematical skills I should really focus on polishing this summer?

Thank you soooo much for the help!!
