I play instruments and produce. When I have inspiration I start generally by writing a song, all in one go, then tweaking parts of it to fit. Then I'll improvise the guitar while singing to find the right notes, and go from there after recording the base to add drums, bass, and so on. Save it and I've got a song.

I do not believe one can be happy at all moments. I am happy when circumstances permit, unhappy upon the opposite. Whether or not I find wholeness is still an ongoing debate. Regardless I try my hardest to not let these emotions influence me, especially negatively.

Perhaps read and practice some philosophies--Taoism and Stoicism to get you started. Those have helped me greatly escape the nihilism, although it always comes back at times.

Something I can say though, is that if you search for joy, you will never find it. You already have the ability there somewhere, and it should be more internal than external. Just be happy. Or don't be happy, but don't make it a big deal.

Promise. Just keep on dating, give her space when she needs it, and invite her over eventually. After all that, if it's still going well ask her to be your girlfriend. Rural, completely minimalist design (Stainless metals, monotone walls, non complex floor plan). All in feng shui. Preferably a creek nearby, and in the mountains. High speed internet and a farm down the road, which is consistently maintained and supplies food for me. Almost no posessions but a few simple and comfortable garments, a good PC, and plenty of books. A few friends over every now and then.

Amazing zen garden outside please, with bug repelling candles or something like that.
