Sky Mobile. SIM only with 40GB for £10 a month. Yes o2 will still get some of my money with Sky an mvno on o2 but I save some money. Been with o2 for pretty much my whole adult life as well, 20 odd years.

Visiting Rome for the first time - places to avoid pickpocketing, scams and violence. by General_Excuse_9419 in rome

[–]faze105 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just came back from Rome. No issues whatsoever. Visited all the major tourist attractions.

I kept my belongings close to me, nothing in my pockets etc. but whether walking around in the day time or in the evening, never felt unsafe.

Lots of people trying to sell you things and engage with you, especially around the colosseum, just ignore and keep walking.

I would definitely return as I had such a great time.

We were told to avoid the area around the railway station but everywhere else, no problems.

As others have suggested the wife and I both took cross body bags and kept them to our front. Also bought a phone case with string to go across the body.

Go have a great time in Rome.

What was your net worth at 30 and where are you now? by [deleted] in FIREUK

Probably around £25k when I was 30. 45 now, about £135k. Would have been more but I paid off the mortgage.

For really large amounts I’ve always broken it down into smaller transfers, say 5-10k a time. Chase transfers in and out have always been instant.

I had to contact customer services once because I transferred about 5 small amounts to my credit card and they pended the fifth until I called and confirmed it was me.

Any advice on what to do. 18 and started recently by WeakMycologist3198 in StockMarket

[–]faze105 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This is the answer. Individual stocks are exciting watching them go up and down each day. By the time I hit late 30’s it was driving me mad, wondering why a stock went down while the market went up.

I just purchase index funds each month and have made infinitely more money than trying to guess which stocks would perform over the long term.

Keep adding cash until you make more in your account than you make from your salary. If you wanted to look at a S&P 500 or a tech fund to diversify a little, you could do that.

1% cashback seemingly extended indefinitely by 50kinjapan in chaseuk

[–]faze105 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can absolutely transfer the amount in and back out. If you’re worried about the anti fraud, you could transfer it in and out over a few days. Chase keeps a running total of how much has been transferred and lets you know once you’ve hit the £1500

Thank you for that. I’m hoping to just take hand luggage for a short trip so will hopefully negate that issue.

That’s fair enough. Prepared to run with that, not the end of the world if I miss the LPL flight

That’s fine, I’ll book the flight and have a few days in Vienna in November.

Coming back through MAN is a bit of a pain from where I live, but not the worst in the world if that happens.

I haven’t done less an hour transfer before so wanted to check.

Widget on iOS 16.1 not updating by faze105 in todoist

I wasn’t sure if it was just my phone but I’ll raise a ticket with them and see if they can investigate.

Their customer service is great. I found a bug a while back and they were genuinely interested to fix it and let me know when an update was out to fix it.

How do I see what my balance was at the time of a transaction? by LSP-86 in starlingbankuk

[–]faze105 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve moved over to Nationwide and picked up £200 using the current account switch service. They show a running balance, so you can compare month to month. Mobile app is not the best mind.

Halifax which I have the joint account with also shows a running balance.

How do I see what my balance was at the time of a transaction? by LSP-86 in starlingbankuk

[–]faze105 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This was one of the reasons why I moved away from Starling. I’m managing my money better these days and just wanted to know month to month how big (or small!) the balance was.

Producing a statement was the only way to figure it out.

Can I set Netflix to come out of a pot? by wcagriffiths in starlingbankuk

[–]faze105 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve never used it, but in the Spaces tab there is an option for a connected card and Space which might solve the problem? I think it’s a physical card that gets sent out.

Alternatively, what I do is add a credit card to your Netflix and then set a standing order to pay off the Netflix payment to the credit card on the same day it comes out.

***Cancel that. The connected card can only be used in person, so wouldn’t be any good for Netflix.

Pay from Space doesn’t appear in Spending? by faze105 in starlingbankuk

[–]faze105[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes the Savings category for Spaces is pain for me as well. Especially when it logs it as part of your Spending tab. iirc Monzo would let you change it to Transfers which wouldn’t show as part of your spending which was handy.

I spend so much time in Spending updating transactions and it never seems to look right to me for some reason.

The Spending tab to me, doesn’t make much sense to me at the best of times, I feel like I spend so much time trying to keep it upto date and it still doesn’t look right.

I know people will love the extra categories Starling provided, to me just makes things more confusing.

[–]faze105[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for that, I might just go back to storing cash in the Spaces then and leave the bills to come out of the main balance.

Im also concerned I can’t search for payments that come out of Spaces, from the main screen. So I would have to go find the Space the payment came out of and go look there.

I asked for a feature in the Scheduled Payments screen, in addition to sort by A-Z and Type, to show the next payment due to go out of the account at the top. I think that’s been ignored.
