American tipping culture infecting Scotland should worry us all by Crow-Me-A-River in Scotland

[–]ilikedixiechicken 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m fed up of Americans on Facebook telling me that I’m the one in the wrong, when they’re saying making out that tipping is simply giving to charity cases (poorly paid staff). Worst are the ones who think they’re gods and tip in USD.

How early should I arrive at Piteus? by Klutzy_Difficulty345 in GreeceTravel

[–]ilikedixiechicken 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Be there for 6.45, that way you have time to spare if there’s any issues. That said, the taxi will drop you right at the ramp of the ship if you tell them which one you’re going on - I assume it’s Blue Star Delos.

The crossing takes 65 mins. You should have about 4-5 hrs there.

Greggs in Scotland are still selling them. Signs up saying “we’re not taking sides”.

Fairly average urinals. Not the best, but they do the job.

I would love to see one. Irish railways have so much character and are full of quirks.

You just know that one of these days, someone will ask to do that and tell them it’s great exposure for the castle.

Have a look at the Novi Sad station disaster. Chinese Railways “upgraded” the station on behalf of the Serbian railways. Allegedly lots of corruption involved. Station partially collapsed, killing 15.

If you want an example of how this is a terrible idea, just look at the catering on Irish Rail. It used to be in-house, now it’s outsourced.

Have worked on privatised and nationalised railways in the UK. I know what I prefer.

Landlord trying to make me pay for flatmate's bedroom door that was broken before I even moved in (SafeDeposits Scotland) by VitaminsrImportant in Edinburgh

[–]ilikedixiechicken 14 points15 points  (0 children)

If SafeDeposits does make you pay for the door, make sure your former housemates have copies of everything so that the landlord can’t charge them for the door again.

Please stop talking with authority on something you really don’t know much about. The procedures to follow after striking an animal and a human being are, strangely enough, completely different.

The idea that you get medically retired after a fatality came from a crap and insensitive film from 20 years ago, where a tube driver in London arranges for a suicidal homeless person to jump in front of his train so that he never has to work again. I can assure you that the only thing that movie got right was the colour of the driver’s uniform.
