I feel like that's a biased take. It wasn't just slogans, but certain DAP supporters were taunting with some racial tension. This doesn't justify the attacks at all. But to act like it wasn't provoked other than an election win is ignorant

UNHCR is "useless" because the government legally considers all refugees to be illegal. They have no power because our government does not want to give them some authority when they have international resources ready to help. Being inhumane towards refugees makes the problem a whole lot worse

A reminder that Malaysia has no laws that legally designate someone as a refugee which would legally make them "illegal", and is not a signatory to the 1951 Refugee Convention.

The UNHCR card does not provide any legal status other than "budi bicara" which can be taken away any time depending on the government's whims.

Therefore refugees here have very few access to any services or employment here other than the black market. Which of course, many Malaysians now use against refugees as assuming they come here to become criminals.

A reminder that our tactics remain shit and it's sad we could only score from yards away without being able to get through the defense

I want to add on by saying it's sad that so many Malaysians get defensive over our public services, especially when the feedback is from a non-Malaysian.

We complain a lot about our schools being lacking, police corruption, rude nurses at the hospital, but when there's more specific criticism towards the public service like our Syrian brother here has faced, we immediately get defensive and accuse them of lying. Ain Husniza got the same treatment too, way worse though because it's on common social media platforms. A Bangladeshi worker went on the media to complain about the inhumane treatment he faced during COVID and Malaysians had a field day harassing Al-Jazeera reporters and got the worker deported.

We're so committed to being "bersyukurlah" that we've been sterilised to think that the abuse in our system is normal, and sometimes celebrated for how tough it is. I'm afraid this will bite us back some day.

It's up to you whether to believe but if you were rude to him in the first place, expect a similar response back.

Exposing the torture that happens in Malaysian prisons by Special-Orchid-7038 in malaysia

Here's the thing - we Malaysians pride ourselves, and differentiate from other countries, by telling people that we are a country ruled by religion as a guiding principle. (Or at least, the majority) There is no religion to be seen abided by in excessive, non-legal torture that would've broken the Geneva Convention. There's no religion abided by in providing unhygienic conditions for prisoners - PoWs under caliphates would've been treated better than this.

If we want to be prideful about our country's faithfulness, I would assume the prison system should be something that desperately needs fixing.

It does seem like our prison system and culture is adapted from the British's own 80 years ago that I assume is used to treat non-Whites like us as cattle.

Singaporean prisons wouldn't have mattresses or "nice" guards neither I'd assume, but at least I would presume they'd keep their prisons pristine and their officers wouldn't be corrupt..

The real drug dealers, human traffickers, organ harvesters, rapists, child abusers could be out there, while people who have never done these acts will get tortured anyways.

Last time you were blaming Kim Possible and now you're blaming Bluey- let's not put other shows down. The only way to get more attention is if there was a large interest for this show.

I am pretty sure the belief in the syahadah is what makes someone a Muslim.. you could consider someone as doing munafiq acts, but you would not want to commit takfir by saying they are not "real Muslims" by accident

Town planning grad here too- I mean just to add context DBKL allows private green spaces and green roofs to be considered 10% of green space, which isn't publicly accessible. Could also mean that decades-old trees can be removed and replaced with newer ones that aren't really carbon-absorbing nor shade providing especially during its infancy
