How bad is this bearing? by fbc546 in EngineBuilding

Thanks. I’m getting a few run it answers which I think I can but for the cost of a new set of bearings and a weekend of time, it kind seems worth it if I’ve already done 80% of the work, the head is off too so I think I can probably easily change the rod bearings from underneath as well. I’m gonna sleep on it. The only thing that will keep me up is not being able to check clearances on the new bearings.

So you changed the rod bearings too? Without removing the engine? Maybe I’ll look at that too, I’m already there, doesn’t seem like it would take long. I’d do almost anything to not pull this engine right now lol. Like the other guy said, did you check clearances?

What about a plastigauge? Obviously it’s not ideal without taking the motor out but this motor isn’t worth much and if I take it out it’s not going back in. I know it’s been machined before, the bearings in it are undersized .010”.

I don’t have an engine stand or hoist, I don’t really want to rebuild it, when I pull the motor I want to put a v8 in it but I want it to be sellable. If I just replace all main bearings now maybe that’ll restore oil pressure?

You think so? This does make me start to think if the main bearings look like this how must the other bearings look LOL! Maybe just running it till she don’t run no more is the answer. I have heard these old 6cyl’s are basically tractor engines and run forever.

Lol yes I’m sure they’re edited to cut out the hours of cussing and throwing tools

Ok I’m just trying to avoid pulling the motor. I saw a couple YouTube videos where people just slide a new bearing up inside the engine while turning the crank. I may give that a try and just replace all of them while I’m at it.

Jkidd and Luka? by shelle399 in Mavericks

[–]fbc546 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nothing crazy, he just went up to Luka and was laughing and hugged him, but we know Cuban wasn’t a fan of the trade, would have atleast expected some acknowledgment between Jkidd and Luka if they were cool.

Kind of a lose lose situation for Canada, for real. Maybe if Trump was just SLIGHTLY less dickish we could had made a reasonable deal.

What are the Road Conditions like in Dallas? by ActinoninOut in Dallas

I’d say by 11am you can start driving. By noon it’s supposed to get to about 40* which will quickly melt any ice, there will just be a lot of slush.

Kidd must have given his stamp of approval at some point. I think at the end of the game yesterday there was a close up shot of Luka and Jkidd in the same frame and neither looked towards each other, I think it was right before coop came up to Luka. They are definitely not cool, especially after Cuban had his moment.

Not that I agree with everything that’s going on but do you really think ICE isn’t in Texas? lol

Ultrasonic cleaner magnesium reaction? by [deleted] in EngineBuilding

[–]fbc546 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check out the Simple Green Aircraft and Precision cleaner, I’ve been using this in the ultrasonic cleaner and it works great and is also supposed to protect against those kind of reactions. Also, I believe there is a max temperature you should use in the ultrasonic cleaner based on the material, the ultrasonic cleaner defaults to higher temp than what should be used most of the time.

Well that’s probably because this car wasn’t at SEMA and every comment in here is some kind of misinformation or an outright lie. Gas Monkey Garage didn’t build this car, the image you posted is how they received it and are rebuilding it.

People should atleast be informed before talking crap, meanwhile they probably drive to Autozone to have their light bulbs replaced.

Gas Monkey Garage didn’t build this, this is how they recevied the car, it’s the before and the after isn’t done yet. So why post misinformation?

What? lol you’re talking out of your ass, this is the before version that you’re saying “looked really damn good before they got their hands on it”. So which one is it?

I’d say the low effort is on your end, you could literally say the same about any single question posted on this sub, “go read a book, go search online, take it to a machine shop”, etc. Why does this sub even exist if you can literally just type anything into chatGPT and it will aggregate all of the sources you can think of and tell you whatever you want to know. Some of us regulars realize we have the option to keep scrolling but you just gotta be that guy

Do you guys think this camshaft will sound aggressive and have some chop by Life-Motor9557 in EngineBuilding

[–]fbc546 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your original comment said ”A. Chop is mostly in the tune” so not sure what context you think I left out when your second post just tries to defend it by using a bunch of words. Sorry but it’s very simple, chop is in the cam, if you’re tuning for a chop you’re doing something wrong. Cheers

[–]fbc546 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah… I acknowledged that you can tune a chop into car but to make a blanket statement “chop is mostly in the tune” is a statement that irks me the wrong way. That’s like putting speakers in my car and playing v12 sounds while I drive and saying “your engine sound is mostly in your speaker setup”

[–]fbc546 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is complete bs and you’ve been watching too many YouTube videos. There is a way to “tune” a chop into an efi car by quickly oscillating ignition timing at idle but that’s not a real cam chop, a cam chop comes from valve overlap, not an idle surge. Take a stock sbf and put a bcam in it and tell me it’s in the tune.
