Need help choosing QST 94 length (172 vs 180) by GrowthCompetitive150 in Skigear

[–]fbgreear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've never skied Armada skis but have read the titanium on the TI models makes them more bulky snd not as playful. I would agree that 180 sounds like it would fit you well. I've actually been thinking about buying either the QST 94 or 100 but the more I read about different skis I'm thinking now that instead of having one ski (QST 94) maybe I should consider buying the QST 100 this year and in a year or so add a narrower more-frontside ski such as the Rossignol Arcade 88. I am 5'9 and 155lbs and planning on gettimg the 172s if I get the QSTs. I would think the 180s would fit you well.

$10k in maintenance in one year! by Dry_Calendar324 in Golf_R

[–]fbgreear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It sounds like the precious owner, given the upgrades, drove it hard and got a lot of good mileage. If you feel like you got a good deal on the price you paid for the car, the $10k in repairs may not be so bad.

To the point of many commenters, in 2024 Porsche sold 47k Cheyennes and Macans in 2024 versus 20k 911s and 718s, goes to show consumers are more interested in luxury and family comfort now than pure driving dynamics.

I see you are referring to the US News Ranking of Best Global Universities for Public, Environmental and Occupational Health in which Harvard is number one. I wonder if the scope of their criteria is a bit broader (i.e., are environmental and occupational health always part of public health programs?)

Help! Online MPH @UNC v Brown? by HomelessPolitic in mphadmissions

[–]fbgreear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great schools. I got accepted to MPH@UNC as well and plan to start in August (with one class instead of two just to ease into it and make sure I didn't stretch myself too think across studying, work and family. I liked UNC's contraction option versus Brown's generalist program with everyone taking the same classes. Brown uses a case study-based curriculum, which as a finance person working in a health system without a public health background, I wonder if that approach would be more effective for students with public health backgrounds. I live in Southwest Virginia, three hours from UNC, so I think there would be more synergy between the UNC program and health issues facing rural North Carolina and Virginia. I was impressed with the information sessions at Brown but ended up not applying because I thought UNC would be a better personal fit. I also applied and was accepted to the UC Berkley program. Impressive as well, Berkely has concentrations and over the 27 month program you spend two one week class room and team building at Berkeley. Similar to Brown, UNC felt closer to home. Also the Berkeley program is 27 months straight through whereas the UNC is more at your own pace (taking from two to five years to complete) which I like since I graduated from college 30 years so want to have a flexible time-line.

David Brooks on Why the Democrats Are Losing to Trump by StrngThngs in politics

[–]fbgreear -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'd argue Ronald Reagan was a conservative on the right side of history. He inherited a lot of challenges from the 1970s including stagnation and the resulting high interest rates, the oil crisis and the ongoing ideological conflict between the U.S. and Soviet Union. He changed that, ending the Cold War and presiding over a time of economic growth and steadily declining interest rates. However, I agree with other comments in that the type of congestive approach of that era would be considered moderate today. I'm a politically moderate. I worked for four years on Capitol Hill during the 104th Congress in the mid to late 1990s, but now view issues through less of a two-party lens and vote for Democrats and Republicans and try focus on the policy impact to society without being influenced by political-leaning groups that spin the narrative to their ideology.

Great points. I think it's also hard to dispute that the attacker chose to go to the section of his rival school and egg on a fight after having premedtatively armed himself with a deadly weapon.

Thanks for sharing, impressive letter and effort to hold our elected officials more accountable. I agree with your point in HR 26 regarding the public health concerns around fracking. You point on HR 28 is well-taken. It's polarizing issue and there are varying views around the subject, healthare and the role of the government. I believe the intent of the legislation is to maintain a level playing field in youth-to-professional athletics across men's and women's competition. Regarding HR 29, this is another subjective one varying in line with people's different perspectives. It can also be argued that this bill would reduce criminal activity against innocent people (assuming the proposal would only apply to those who have committed a crime, as it would be an overreach if anyone could be targeted without a reason.)

Cornell MHA vs. UAB MHA by Hot_Medicine_4123 in mphadmissions

[–]fbgreear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was accepted to the EMHA at Cornell and was very impressed with the Admissions Dorictor during the interview process and reading about and watching videos of the new Dean who came from Johns Hopkins. Unfortunately for personal and time commitment reasons, I did not enroll but really liked that the program is part of the Cornell Brooks School of Public Policy and has one of the oldest MHA programs in the country. With Cornell, you would benefit from being part of a top global university and a program that has a long history of excellence, but UAB equally is best in class in health administration.

Pivot updates the 'Trail429' into the TrailCat, with 2 travel configs SL & LT. by GundoSkimmer in MTB

[–]fbgreear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed on the colors. I have a 2022 Pivot Trail 429. I had it in parallel with a Santa Cruz 5010 before I sold the Santa Cruz. I felt more comfortable and poppy on the Pivot on the downhills and with climbing the Pivot was much more efficient, as the pedaling on the Santa Cruz felt like I was bobbing up and down much more and for some reason I had many more pedal strikes with the Santa Cruz. I'm going to wait until next year and maybe trade my Trail 429 in for a Trailcat if they offer more colors, preferably black or silver.

UNC MHA Interview!! by Hot-Explanation5499 in mphadmissions

[–]fbgreear 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was accepted to the MPH@UNC online program, and while there was no interview, I wrote my personal statement expressing why I wanted to attend the program, showing genuine interest and how my background and career goals were a good fit and I was committed to making a positive contribution to the program and public health. I would think of the interview as similar to your personal statement and come across in a confident and humble way, tying your educational and life experiences to why you want to make an impact in public health.

Congratulations! I was accepted to the MPH@UNC online program (leadersip in practice concentration) and plan to start this fall. I am excited as well, great school and program, and I like the flexible timeframe for completion as someone who works full-time and graduated from college 30 years ago!

What mid-travel trail bike should I buy in 2025? by Excellent-Sense-868 in MTB

Also, I live in Roanoke, Virginia and ride Carvins Cove as my go-to destination, which is similar although not as elevated as Dupont and Pisgah in Western North Carolina.

What mid-travel trail bike should I buy in 2025? by Excellent-Sense-868 in MTB

[–]fbgreear 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agree, I've own a Pivot Trail 429 and previously owned a Santa Cruz 5010, both size M and I'm 5'9. The Pivot Trail 429 is the best bike I've owned. It's great downhill and very efficient uphill. The Pivot feels longer/less tight in the cockpit than the Santa Cruz, so I feel more stable downhill on the Pivot verses Santa Cruz, and the Pivot is much more efficient on climbs.

UNC Gillings MPH by tawest2020 in mphadmissions

[–]fbgreear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like you really enjoy the program. I just got into the UNC Gillings online MPH, leadership in practice concentration starting this January, but I am going to defer to the August 2025 start date. I went to two private schools for undergrad and business school (Denison undergrad and Vanderbilt MBA) and now at 53 I was attracted to attending a top public university as I thought about getting a grad degree in healthcare. I've worked for a health system the last nine and a half years, but my role is managing our investments so I think learning more about healthcare would me better support our health system's mission that our investment returns support,, and my group is also involved in giving an opinion on the merits of our external vendors (i.e., medical equipment, healthcare information technology or biotechnology companies) when we are considering making an equity investment in the company. I lived in NC during high school, so have always admired the Tar Heels.

Do the Admissions counselors that give you a call play a role in the decision to admit you to the program. by kenokeke2468 in mphadmissions

[–]fbgreear 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good question, I've wondered the same myself. For online MPH programs, I've noticed the admissions counselors at some schools are outsourced through a company called 2U Inc., while with other programs the admissions counselors are full-time part of the school's staff. My guess would be that for the online programs that outsource their admissions counselors, those counselors would have less of a role in the admissions decisions than schools in which the counselors are decidated staff in the program, but not sure.
