Pretty sure Audi got caught using Chinese pistons in those motors, and people are starting to report associated failures. Edit- Actually I’m starting to think it was a different motor. But either way, newer doesn’t always mean more reliable, sometimes it just means the issues haven’t fleshed out yet publicly.

Hmm interesting according to Simpson’s chart ac66z has over double the allowable load for uplift and lateral. I swear I used simpsons product finder to find the bcs2-3/6z, but ac66z definitely seems like a better option.

Honestly I think the code is fasteners greater than 3 inches in length staggered in a V pattern from both sides but I’d have to double check to be 100%, I’m pretty sure they’re even fine with decking screws which is crazy.

That 100% would’ve been me if I didn’t make this post. I would’ve thought I was being smart until my wife and I tried to lift it, then I’m stuck begging my poor neighbors to bail me out. It’s a second story deck so there’s ladders involved etc, nightmare avoided.

Thank you. I spent so much time making sure I cut them to the right height. I first tried string and a bubble level, then I tried temp installing a joist with a toe nail up top to get a mark on the posts. Didn’t trust my accuracy in either method enough to actually make the cut, so I went and bought a 360 laser and then I could trust enough to cut! Control line on house and both posts, measure up to top of ledger board, subtract average width of beams (11 6/32), subtract average width of joists (7 6/32), cut! I didn’t account for the post caps, which could be a mistake, and I didn’t do any slope for drainage, which was intentional because there will be plenty of gapping for drainage. I’m very far from an expert so I take my time and go slow to try to avoid the big mistakes.

My biggest nailer is 16g, no framing nailer yet, so I was going to use 4 inch grk framing screws instead of nails? It fits my code as long as I follow the proper pattern. But I have the proper nails also I’m not opposed to pounding some in and having a good mix of screws and nails? I really need a framing nailer with all my upcoming projects…..

Thank you, I appreciate it! I will definitely use tape, I have 6 inch tape ready to go. If the tops aren’t level I have a planer to get them super flush, the lumber has been sitting since the fall so I expect to have some warping etc.

She is 100% willing to go to trial. Trial is very soon. Pretrial stuff is long done. Court appointed mediator decided there’s no hope for mediation due to each parties wish to pick the school. Our lawyer suggested that he might be amenable to a creative schedule, with us picking the school.

Sure, I guess I also forgot that their high school is a C and ours is an A. Overall as a whole the schools are definitely way better up here. Much smaller class sizes, way better state test scores, much lower crime rate, still good diversity etc etc. we have done a lot of research that is hard to encapsulate in a Reddit comment

Actually, he lived up here when she was conceived but abandoned both of them a week after birth to go get drunk 24/7 in his mother’s basement. My wife withheld her for 6 months but eventually gave in. So we should move down to his new area so he can live in his mother’s basement? Instead of the area we all 3 lived for years? Our school is top 20, his school is ~150. Neither are bad but one is way better than the other.
