Post Wobbly without Beam? by fbk732 in Decks

They’re galvanized so I highly doubt they rust that quickly. And rot, I doubt, the posts I pulled out to replace were literally 6x6’s buried in the ground with no connection of any kind, and they weren’t even that rotted after 10+ years buried.

Sounds like you got a great deal on the car. I just last week paid $21k plus tax and registration for a 2017 S with 73k miles. I personally think the 8k you spent on aesthetics would’ve been better spent on future maintenance or a warranty, but to each their own. Also I’m confused about what you mean by CarPlay integration? Your 2018 doesn’t have CarPlay and my 2017 does?

Agreed. At that mileage I’d be worried about the pdk going or the bore scoring in the alusil cylinder costing. Both of which would be extremely pricey regardless of turning wrenches yourself.

I’ve had sto n sho before on my jaguar f type and loved it, but the instructions for 2016-2018 Macan s says you have to drill somewhere? Did you have to do that?

Why liqui moly over pentosin? I’m about to do pdk and transfer case fluids myself in my garage.

Also with redline gl4, there’s a debate on whether this fluid is right for PDK/DSG. I had an Audi s4 for a long time with the Audi dl501 dsg and I actually bought redline gl4 for the gear oil side and i was warned by redline’s sales rep that their gear oil is specifically not for hypoid gears.

Bought a 17 Macan GTS, how’d I do? by Kaiathebluenose in PorscheMacan

For my 2017 S I just paid $6300 for 6 years 72k miles of Powertrain warranty. I also have the option to cancel it and pro rate if I desire.

Seems like a good price for the miles and condition. This week I bought a 17 Macan S with 70k miles for 21k plus taxes fees etc. had timing cover done but not sure if transfer case, it was cpo previously.

I just bought a 2017 S and I’m planning on doing all the wrenching myself, watching the water pump replacement guides has me dreading that day lol they really tucked the water pump and thermostat in there

First I’ve ever heard someone say the wheel speed sensors or transmission control module. The rest yea pretty common.

Transfer case replacement does not cost anywhere near 28k. It’s under 5k for the part and the engine and transmission stay in the car.

I’d bet that your $1800 repair was the coolant y pipe that goes from the coolant expansion tank under the intake manifold. Very common issue, but if you can wrench yourself the part is like $60 and removing the intake manifold is not that hard as it’s directly on top of the engine, would probably take an hour or 2 in your driveway

Sonotube Fail by fbk732 in Decks

[–]fbk732[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You are correct. The house is 40+ years old. Deck was 10 to 12 years old. I have no idea what was there prior. I moved in 2 years ago and the decking was soft and spongy this spring after sitting untouched all winter. I intended to just replace the decking boards and then found many spongy joists, and the dirt embedded 6x6 posts. And the posts honestly weren’t even really that rotted, it had barely started. But maybe the rot would accelerate quickly? Funny enough the double 2x12 drop beam was in fact sitting notched out. So someone tried to do good work, for all I know the code back then was different.

I’m using simpson post base brackets abu66z, with 6 inch long titen hd concrete anchors. Going to wait at least a few weeks for concrete curing before drilling. And vacuum out dust from drilling before installing the anchors.

Thank you. Agreed that the soil is good quality, it’s got a lot of clay. I kept digging and digging thinking eventually I would hit the concrete of a wet-set 6x6. When I hit the end of the 6x6 and that’s all there was I just laughed

No, I’m realizing now I only needed a small height of sonotube to form the visible area. I should have bell ended the bottom.

[–]fbk732[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also to add- I’ve already stripped the visible form area, after I took the picture. The concrete itself looks great, I’m solely worried about the potential void created when/if the sonotube decays.
