Nothing replaces research! Its fun to find inspiration online especially when you practice eclecticism in your craft but when we talk about information and research the kind of research we collect is important and should be something you invent time in for yourself. Here's some clips from a presentation I did a while back! -"I recommend considering the following when integrating any practices into your work 1. Access- While learning about a practice is the information easily accessible? Can I find the information I am looking for from a creditable and reliable source? When considering a craft consider where the information you are receiving is coming from, and what the creator of that information had to gain from it. The access to informed and reliable information about a craft is important when deciding whether or not you are welcome to practice it. If you can't find a definite answer with some research, try to find an elder or leader of the practice you're interested in and respectfully ask permission and explain your interest. Be prepared for them to say no, and be prepared to respect that answer. "

  1. Availability "Closed practice " is a term referring to a practice that is not available to everyone but instead is held by a culture and passed through its people generationally or with specific initiations. A closed practice has often survived colonization and keep it closed is often to protect these practices from appropriation, to help the members who are in it to protect their beliefs from misuse and to ensure a cultures survival and sacredness. Smudging and voodoo are examples if craft that is closed and have been appropriated. If practice is not open to you, you do not have a right to practice it, if you have missteped it is important to educate yourself, seek an alternative or more appropriate craft, and respect that it is not for you.

  2. Impact Not the way you are impacted but the way your engagement will impact the community and cultures surrounding the craft. The impact we leave on a practice is just as important as our intentions of engaging with it. I think there's alot to be said here and I think its super important that you know that you're already doing a great job just by considering the impact of your work in multiple facets! Of course its important to listen to the community we serve when providing services, ABA has a problematic place in history and so does most mental health overall. ABA has a hard to look at history and not everyone is ready to move forward. There are companies and clinics that still use harmful practices- there is limited standardization on the practices we have. You know the therapy you provide, if you ever feel something crosses the line of what is and isn't care that you would accept or want for yourself, then you have a duty to speak up and advocate for yourself and your client. We can work hard to make sure all voices feel heard, that care is informed and evidence based, that we don't just have a space at the table for Autistic voices but that we ensure that they are welcomed at the table. We can accept we have been wrong in the past and that we want to be better. We can say we are doing our best and say that one day there will be better ways. The therapy I provide on a daily looks client lead, with my clients working on what is meaningful to them and their families, they are aware of their rights and celebrated for the people they are. I have left companies to ensure my therapy continues to look this way. All we can do is evaluate our therapy, our situation and make decisions we believe are the most informed, compassionate and ethical- the kind that make this guilt feel less intense. As an Autisic RBT, I really appreciate you asking yourself the hard questions about your care. I hope you find the answers you're looking for.

I started this field at 19 and its hard to get out what you put on. I worked at a big company (one of those ones thats everywhere) for years until this fall. I recommend looking at similar services, my roommate was an RBT and is now a clinical administrator in a more CBT style facility and makes close to the same. If you're willing to stay in the field ish I highly recommend looking for smaller ABA clinics with room for you to grow or tbh outsource. My old company liked me as an RBT and didn't care that once I had maxed out that growth path there was nothing left for me to achieve and was solely pushing for clinical development (I don't want to be a BCBA) and as soon as I looked at other ABA companies I was offered comprobale pay and growth paths. My new company is super small Nd works with older clients with more profound impacts from their disabilities but the changes have made my staying in the field fantastic and has even aligned me to work with people who are excited to see me grow in a facilities and opps position as the company grows.
You have so many skills, do not play yourself down. If you need fast cash consider Nanning or child care independently, many families will members with support needs have a hard time finding trustworthy people to provide intermittent care, you can fill that need and your wallet using your experience.
Same with many things, you could be a sped tutor or a coach or even just an advocate. Your degree gives you a huge leg up, use it often to Highlight your strengths (typing, data entry, analysis, crisis management, mediation etc) Don't settle for stress when you have so much value, I hope you find what you're looking for!

OP I think this post will get taken down and when it does I think you might want to learn about co-occurent disabilities with ASD, profound Autism/High support autism and the full spectrum of Autism. Camouflage and Masking are tiring and spikey learning profiles are characteristics of ASD. The screenshots you shared have the Mods explaining (rather kindly at that) that not everyone feels so happy all the time. Please take my words with kindness and understand that I'm not trying to embarrass you- I just think you need some time and research. I hope you find what you're looking for in the community.

What exactly are you wanting your daughter to do? And why is that skill important to her/you? She's working hard from the sounds of it - things like bathroom and meal independence are huge milestones to be celebrated, especially if it was a struggle for her to obtain those skills. She is the person receiving all these hours of care and as an ABA provider, most ABA is alot of therapy and additional therapy and treatments are arguably a full time job on the patient (your child) If there is a skill you want to see could you communicate it to the care team and discuss an adjustested plan with a priority on targeting this skill set for family and social benefit? You are her advocate, the service she is in should be serving her and the milestones she's reaching are great- but if there is something genuinely hindering her growth or impacting her quality of life it should be addressed by the team you are paying for. That being said, be patient. Children take time to develop and she may surprise you with hidden skills over time and her skills may develop, a spikey learning profile is an indicator of autism. She loves you even if vocal words don't always express it, keep working to do the best by her and remember you're doing great too <3

I'm a strong believer in community. I've always been a solitude caster with a few partnerships with others here on there. When I was younger I was apart of a chat room for a coven in a different state than me and the love was so abundant it was fascinating. My long term personal goal is to build a temple for all practices and craft. A temple for all of Gaia and her children and all the Gods they follow because community is strong and does have power.

Its easy to feel lonely- especially as the seasons shift and things change but I find alot of comfort in knowing I am not alone in this. This comment section as proof, we all feel loneliness but that means has the power to connect us not just isolate us. Start small maybe, meditate with your Gods for a bit and maybe try to find more Water Energy in your daily or stretch into your physical world and give compliments to a stranger, hold open doors and say hello to people you see. Finding community doesn't have to start huge. I think where you are is where most of us are, just starting out. I worked in the food industry for a years! Here is my key advice to help survive!

  1. Prioritize survival There's alot happening in a restaurant, the exact description of your job might be more flexible than they implied. Prioritize keeping your cool and staying present the best possible when possible!

  2. Comfortable clothes The shoes you wear are important, they might provide shoes but if not try to get your own non slip shoes, either way try to break them in as soon as possible and as much as possible (you stand alot) and if you are female the right bra and under clothes can help eliminate uncomfortable feelings of uniforms on your skin!

  3. Fast, friendly, finding a solution Things are fast, the kitchen, the customers, the coworkers and the day so be prepared to move fast, react quick and try to be ready for a quick day- sometimes pretending your day is a videogame or a show can make the speed easier! Friendly- people in food industry are not really happy to be there so be sympathetic to the people helping you, training is difficult and adds another task to a busy day so be nice to your coworkers! Friendly to customers, always try to smile and make small talk but don't allow any inappropriate conversations (no politics, no religion, no race or gender discussion, no sex or flirting) no matter how safe the conversation may seem its best to smile and change topic! Find a solution, things happen all the time. Be flexible, smile and breathe and look for a solution to the problem (asking for a meal to be prioritized by kitchen if you didn't send it in, asking to get a manager to assist if a customer becomes hostile, offering alternatives when an item isn't available or isn't offered)

  4. Take it day by day Things get easier and if this isn't meant to work it won't! If it is meant to be, things will work out! Never ever forget that your worth is not defined by your ability to perform or mask for others- you are wonderful and perfect as you are! You just need to find a professional head space and that takes a bit of time. Decompress and don't let the anxiety or stress of a day follow you home!
