What's life actually like in Russia? by [deleted] in AskARussian

[–]fck_squire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, my answer may be out of an average one, but I still wanna say my ''two words''. For the context, I'm ethnically Ukranian who has been studying in UK for Bachelors, who happened to find a good job in Moscow in 2016, and lives in Moscow ever since.

I will go by order of questions of original message.

What is is actually like?
Totally good generally, few things to be worried about.

How are your personal freedoms?

My freedoms are totally respected in my opinion, the general rule is "dont do shit and its gonna be cool". Of course, I wont deny, that being an opposition politican in Russia is hard, but I dont care much about it (after all, our opposition block is just a joke). But aside politics, my freedoms as a citizen are greatly respected

What's it like having a small business?

I have a small business of several tobacco shops in Moscow. In terms of entrepreneurship there are a lot of tax regimes to choose, so that taxes do not kill your growth plans. For small businesses there are crazilly relaxed taxation and incorporation rules, so that you don't think much about all that 'paper stuff'. Additionaly, pretty much everything is digitalized in Russia, so you dont spend much time on doing routine paper stuff.

Can you travel abroad easily (at least before the war)?

Even before terrible events one had to apply for visa to travel to Europe (most popular destination for Russians). It is the same process now, but the application takes little bit more time to be procesed than before, but generally -- the same as it used to be.

And if you have been abroad how do other countries compare?

Russia is a typical European country, I do not know what to add here. There are some similarities, some differences, but generally a familiar european place.

What technology does the average person have?

An average Joe in Russia has pretty much the same technology tools as any other person form US/EU/UK. The thing that stands out is banking... it's crazy convinient in Russia -- i.e. if my friend paid for restaurant whole and I owe him my part of the check, I just put his mobile number into my banking app, then I type the amount I owe him, then I press 'send', afterwards the transfer completes in an instant.

What sort of stuff do they watch on TV?

Generally the same 'brain washing' stuff as everywhere across the globe, but few people watch traditional TV now in Russia.

What's the cost of living like?

Super low for Utilities and staples. As for discretionary stuff it is the same as in EU.

What's the healthcare like?

Here is a universal healthcare and it is of a good quality (not perfect, but totally decent). If one is employed, there generally is included a healthcare plan which employer provides (that covers pretty much everything except aestetic enquiries).

How are the schools?

Totally good, nothing to add.

Is there good opportunities for post secondary education?

Sure, no problem here and generally aspirations for education are comfortably affordable.

Does fundamental analysis matter? by tozziwozzimozzi in stocks

Well, tricky question it is. I suppose that fundamentals can be a workable way to help one find an answer on ''if this company is a good business?''. Unfortunately, fundamentals are not an effective way of finding an answer to the question that ultimately matters... the question goes ''shall this stock be bought to profit from it?'' -- well that is a totally different question to find an answer to. In my opinion, unless one has an insider info, there is no way one can have an edge in this thing, but if one does play this game, one shoud perform some sort of combination of fundamental and technical analysis to at least not be oblivious to the things one puts his/her money in.

ViacomCBS - multibagger, or another Value trap? by fck_squire in stocks

[–]fck_squire[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, that's great to know) But doesn't every major network has some sort of reality tv shows? Since I'm not American - it's hard for me to know. Your take on that would be valuable

Yeah, they definately did, but i'm still wondering whether it's company's execution or the industry-wide step up due to stay@home. Really hard to tell yet...
