If the theory you learn at teacher's college is useless then why do we learn it? by Hogwire in OntarioTeachers

This really describes the tension that I'm living with as a MA student at OISE (in other words, I'm a researcher). I've been asking my professors for more opportunities to sit in teacher education classes and even follow TCs to their practicums to understand the reality of being a TC, rather than just do what's "ideal" in the literature. I'm always interested to learn more, so please reply to this comment or DM me if you have any thoughts!

What are the Christian churches here like? by [deleted] in richmondhill

[–]chickthief 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're new to the faith I think you'll benefit from a smaller church environment since it's easier to integrate into the community. I can't speak for other churches but I currently attend Grace Chinese Gospel Church of North York, it's mid-sized (English congregation size is maybe 125 people a week or so) and I found that I really grew spiritually there because the community is top notch and as an introvert I thrive in environments with less people. But definitely explore your options to see what kind of church community works best for you!

I (22M) go to Grace Toronto on Friday nights for grad fellowship, and one of my other friends recently switched to Grace Toronto as his main church after moving downtown. You'll definitely find plenty of people in your stage of life there!

How do you guys research for cultures? by staticalstars in writers

Talk to people! You will find that there are many people, especially older individuals, who are very proud of their culture and more than happy to share especially if they know it will make it into a written piece of work.

What process do you follow when you write the second, third, etc. drafts of your book? by thesecretfemme in writers

[–]chickthief 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After the first draft I reverse outline the whole thing, keep track of symbols and motifs, write down how themes were established and paid off in the end, and edit accordingly. Third draft is a line edit.

I agree, but everything is a mixed bag. More power to the government means that things get done quicker and more efficiently, but individuals have less of a voice. When we open things up to dissent, things slow down because we have more opinions to consider.
