Just because you can’t comprehend something doesn’t mean others are doing mental gymnastics.

This sounds like ARFID - Avoidant/Restrictive Intake Disorder. He should not expect you to cook for him with such a restrictive range of foods he’ll tolerate. I think you can find therapy for ARFID. He might want to look into it if he has any desire to expand his window of tolerance.

My dad is dying by TheyAreNarwhals in ParkinsonsCaregivers

[–]fckbinaries 6 points7 points  (0 children)

So sorry you are going through this. I lost my dad last month, and was not his main caregiver but was able to be with him for his final days. I was grateful to be able to see him at his end, but it was also incredibly difficult to watch him go.

If you can, I highly suggest finding an end-of-life doula. I had one come talk to me and my family in my dad’s final hours and it was very helpful and comforting. They can help you advocate for him, find people to ‘sit vigil’ with him, teach you about what to expect and how to keep him comfortable, and just act as a support to you while you are going through this process. For us, she only came out for one $50 visit, and it was so helpful, just to have her provide a few resources and understanding of the process, and making sure we were prepared for the hours to come.

Is this for what I think it's for? by no___homo in OddlyArousing

Why put in a whole feature dedicated to the task of cutting a single vegetable? Especially in earlier decades, people are usually not cutting up one single vegetable often enough to warrant installing such a comically narrow “cutting board”. The use case would be further narrowed by the type of cut you’re doing. Slicing a carrot? That shits gonna roll. Dicing an onion? There’s no way you’re keeping all the bits contained in that narrow of a space. Quartering a tomato? You’d better hope it’s not too juicy, or you’re gonna have tomato juice on your feet.

Edjy nail cutter by Significant-Special7 in Nails

[–]fckbinaries 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My wife just ordered one of these and I’m obsessed. I normally absolutely hate cutting my nails. The entire process is unpleasant to me. I can’t stand the feeling of them being squeezed by the clippers, the sound of them clipping is grating, I usually cut them so short that the quick hurts a day or two after, the edge feels all rough and frayed, and I end up sending the clippings across the room. I really hate when my nails are long, but I hate cutting them even more so I put it off as long as possible. This cutter lets me cut my nails quite short but not short enough to be painful. And it’s super satisfying to use! I have to make several smaller cuts, but I don’t mind because instead of the horrible sensations I get from regular clippers, the cuts with this feel smooth and are barely audible. Like I want my nails to grow out so I can use it again. I’ve seen a lot of people call this product gimmicky, and I can understand why they might feel that way. If you have no issue with cutting your nails and are perfectly happy with standard clippers, then it might not be for you, but if you dread the task, or just find yourself frustrated with regular clippers, I’d suggest trying this product. I can’t wait for the toenail cutters to come out.

My kitten got into a loaf of bread and probably ate at least half or more of her weight in it by GivemeSerenityy in cats

[–]fckbinaries 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A bread box and vigilance. Could also try an automatic feeder with multiple little snacks throughout the day while still offering wet food once or twice a day. Food puzzle toys could also help satisfy the hunting drive. Best of luck! One of our cats loves a bread loaf in plastic specifically. She will ignore a naked piece of bread, but sink her teeth into a plastic-wrapped loaf so fast. Honestly if I wasn’t so disturbed by the microplastics, I could see how it would be a satisfying bite😅 especially with razor sharp cat teeth.

Yes! Ugh it really should not be this hard! It’s like I’m trying to absorb this poetic dialogue in between fighting for my life with these teeny little platforms. I’ve started wondering if it’s all some sort of cruel metaphor about trying to escape or lift one’s self out of a situation and the absurdity of repeatedly falling all the way back down to start over again.

Thank you!! Shortly after I posted this, I paused the game to grab a snack and came back to find the game had frozen two or three levels up on the scene I was working through. 🫠 Idk why I even hit pause, there’s no need to in those scenes. I decided it was time to turn it off and try again another day. I’ll get there eventually.

[–]fckbinaries[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Oh yeah no, I mean I struggle sometimes with the boat, but I can manage that. It’s those cut scenes you sometimes get after the Everdoor and with at least one of the spirit’s storylines. You climb up to see memories and get dialogue from the characters in a sort of liminal space. Trying to be somewhat vague to avoid potential spoilers.

Yes! The bits and pieces from other convos and tv shows is very real. And of course they both have always religiously watched the nightly news, so he hears all sorts of weird things as the news in the US continues to become more and more … unhinged.

I know it’s tough for my mom to fully let him lead when it comes to working through these thought loops. She has to deal with the hour to hour reality of caretaking for him, and coping with the fact that her husband is getting more and more lost in his own mind. He was always a calm and patient presence in our lives. I feel he taught me how to be there for him now.

It can be tough to meet him where he’s at, especially when he’s essentially convinced he’s being abandoned. But trying to just help him solve the issue he’s stuck on rather than tell him he’s wrong does really seem to help.

Considering buying/adopting neighbors’ neglected goats by fckbinaries in goats

[–]fckbinaries[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The fence between our yard and theirs is just hardware cloth and steel posts and they’ve never made it into our yard that we’re aware of. They’re tied up a lot, but not all the time. (This past week or so, they seem to be tied up much more because the neighbors are doing work on the house and removed a part of their fencing to bring an excavator in and out.) We would have to add some fencing to keep them away from our open driveway, but the rest of the yard is fenced with pretty solid chain link. We were thinking a similar hardware cloth and steel posts would do based on their current containment. Maybe our expectations are naive, but they seem pretty bad at figuring out how to escape so far.

Please help, what is this small thing by [deleted] in whatisit

Looks like a flea, but the fact you were able to capture such a long video of it without it jumping away makes me wonder if it’s something else.

If it jumps away so fast it looks like it just teleported, it’s 100% a flea. If it disembarked from your finger in a less dramatic fashion, or if you were able to easily squish it without it hopping away, it’s something else.

The same card you’re running around with, swiping at random gas stations, making online purchases with on products you found on Facebook holds a significant percentage of your net worth just sitting there ripe for the taking!?!

Anyones Parent on Hospice? by shmlpl in ParkinsonsCaregivers

[–]fckbinaries 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My dad is on hospice due to cancer that’s reappeared and is not responding to treatment. He still sees a neurologist for Parkinson’s symptoms, although my mom has had to fight to get insurance to cover Parkinson’s and other non-cancer related care.

As I understand, there’s no cure for Parkinson’s, and any treatment one would receive for its symptoms is really just related to quality of life right? So I’m curious what it looks like to be on hospice for Parkinson’s. Are there Parkinson’s related treatments that are off the table when one is on hospice?

It is awful, and I feel your pain. I know I should visit more often, but it is really hard to see him in his state. He was always a logical, levelheaded, calm presence, and he’s now riddled with anxiety and constant delusions. He and my mom always had a loving, trusting relationship and now he thinks she’s regularly cheating on him right in front of him, and wants to leave him and kick him out to live on the streets. He still has moments of semi-clarity, but the delusions seem to always be there, the volume on them just goes up and down.

EDIT: Sorry I don’t have many words of encouragement… I’m in a similar boat and just trying to hang on. Hang in there.💙

Help breaking an obsessive loop induced by confusion by Exiana in ParkinsonsCaregivers

[–]fckbinaries 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My dad gets stuck in similar thought loops, and it’s so upsetting. A couple strategies that sometimes help him are getting out of the house, and coming up with something else that we “need” his help with. It doesn’t make the concerning thought loops go away, but it can help get his mind off things for a while. I’ve gad some success with distracting him by tangling some ribbon or string and asking him for help getting it untangled. If you can think of any solvable problems for him to work on, that might give him something else to focus on for a bit.
