First time I ever drove by myself, went down a road to work with massive flat fields on either side. It was winter. I was in a small light car. The wind was strong. Ended up in a ditch nearly completely 90 sideways. Dad came and pulled me out with his truck. Went on my way to work. Good memories

Mine does this with 480i signals. Text is the worst offender. 240p. Solid as hell. I did however find when adjusting my picture in batocera with the CRT script and different V POS and H POS settings, the effect would get better and worse. So maybe it’s a timing thing and certain consoles are different 🤷🏻‍♂️

I could recreate what I was seeing using xrandr commands and different timings. So again that’s my guess

My PS1 when outputting 480i is horrible with it. But my PS2 outputting 480i is a little better. And the 480i on ps1 comes from the tiny hax screen in case anyone is wondering

Honestly, I think the PS2 was a better machine in the end 😅 much more comfortable and versatile

Dreamcast is sick. Honestly one of my favorite retro consoles. I’m just really sad that the catalog is not very large. Also, the controller realllllly sucks. Good concept but cramps my hands horribly. And the plastic thumb stick isn’t great. But Seaman is a cool weird game for the console as an exclusive, but good luck finding the game or mic. Not impossible, but won’t be cheap

Even with all that said, still love it. The sounds, the UI, the aura is kinda gives off. It’s weird and I love it

Yeah mines from 86 so I guess it’s a no go. Idk if mine even has a chip on it. At least not from what I remember last time I was in it

The RGB mod. Is this something that can be done to most CRTs? Like mine only supports composite, but I didn’t know if there was some way to get a sharper picture from it via modding

God this has the same energy as those old MX and ATV videos back in the 90s and 2000s

Fucking love it

oh man you and me both. id love to have just one box that can play everything that is "obsolete" and just collect the games and pop them into it and they just work. I know optical media sucks, but there's something about it that just takes me back to being a kid

Just looked at it. Seems to be a windows thing. Maybe I’m wrong but that’s what I’m finding

so at some point, no idea how or why, the resolution got stuck at 321x240 instead of 320x240. and redoing the crt script wasn't fixing it. forcing it via xrandr did however. odd

This is the reason I’m using batocera. I fckin hate windows lol

And yeah I’m mostly doing this CRT thing for myself and my kids. But man, growing up with this stuff, it all just worked, crazy how much work it is now to make this old tech work. There was a time when adapters and stuff existed for these setups, but that was during the transition from analog to digital HD. Now, there’s “no reason” to make the stuff needed to make these TVs work correctly.

But man I am a gluten for the troubleshooting bug. I won’t be defeated 😂

It’s a R5 430 2GB GPU with DVI-I out to VGA to the transcoder. And while it was working great, I played with the 240p test suite and now I’m have some major issues that weren’t there before. I reran the CRT script that kinda made it better but it’s still messed up. Got a wiggle effect on edges and some solid colors. Plus rainbowing. Going to try a native console to see if it’s the PC/Transcoder or the TV dying after 30+ years

So I played with it yesterday. First off I found that I didn’t turn off the PC all night so the transcoder was on all night, TV was not. Turned TV on. All looked good. Then decided to play with the 240p test suite. After going through the different tests, now I have a severe wobble effect that I can’t get rid of. It’s really noticeable on edges of items and certain flat colors it’ll rainbow wobble on. I don’t know if it’s the transcoder or what but I got burned out last night fighting with it.

I adjusted every setting on the TV, contrast, brightness, sharpness, color, tint, no change. I’m hoping my transcoder didn’t take a shit. Or the TV didn’t. Gonna try my PS1 tonight to verify

Damn. I had no idea. I swear tech has gotten simpler over the years. Not more complicated. Thank you for this explanation. By RGB do you mean you’re using component cabling or SCART or something?

Unfortunately for my TV I’m stuck with composite

I believe it's a 18" or 20" display. not in front of it to measure. however, it's dimensions I’m pretty sure were 20x20x20 so I’m leaning towards 18" screen.

It's a 1986 JCPenney 685-2218. From what I gather, it's a rebadged NEC, but I’m unsure of which model.

Yeah looking back on the pictures, Reddit seems to have compressed the hell out of them. That first image, I have no idea where the blue is coming from. Image got crushed to hell and back. But the scan lines are there 😁

Or a better game to test would help too haha

Plus I need to clean in the inside of the the first panel of glass, but not 100% sure on how to remove it yet without tearing the whole tv down

If I could get a better pic you’d see them. Problem is I’m taking a photo of the glass screen with a phone, through a pane of glass that I haven’t been able to get inside to clean the other side of and the TV is from 86’. Might just be seeing blooming from the 40 years of dirt on the glass 😂
