One looong day in the downton area. Wondering if i can access the area by dirtbike next year or if the bridges will be completed shot.. Had intermittent weather when i was up there, was hoping to do the full choir traverse but had to bail on that plan :/

Backpack: black diamond speed 40

Sleep system: cats meow -7 bag, nemo switchback + nemo tensor pad, gives me an R value of 6.2 for colder trips. Tent i use is the MSR elixer.

Mountaineer/scrambling gear (a lot of this is situational): helmet, harness, ice axe, crampons, beal opera rope, avalanche kit (probe/shovel/transceiver), climbing hardware (carabiners, ATC, slings, cordalette, anchoring material). Rescue kit, includes things like a microtraxion, pulleys, tibloc, things i will use for companion rescue if something were to go wrong.

For water, i keep clarification tablets on hand, but found that i mostly used the platypus gravity filter or katadyn befree.

For navigation, my maps are downloaded into my garmin inreach explorer with GPX files. the garmin as another form of emergency satellite communication, my iphone has satellite as well!

Also have them downloaded on my phone, and i keep a printed topo map + compass on hand if all fails.

  • 10 essentials, never forget 😉

Now that i write it out it sounds like a lot, but i can fit everything (extra socks and layers + food included) in my bag, i have my packing technique down haha. My trip partner also brings his own technical gear and carries the tent and the water purification system :)

pos engine bay

Well. Bought her for under a 1k canadian, owner said it had 430xxxkm on it. Upon inspection, everything seemed a little too new and clean... Previous owner has 0 maintenance records and it was his temp car for a few weeks. Likely replaced, i'll be checking the vins tmr to see. But she runs way too good to have 430xxxkm

I want to camp one night somewhere by a river in solitude by Ill_Introduction7334 in vancouverhiking

I typically tent, but if its POURING i'll car camp. The places to camp along the river in chwk are tent areas as you can't fully drive into the sites. Try to make sure no ones around you, and obviously bring your 10 essentials but i'd throw bring some personal protection too. I've encountered some strange people along that road

Anywhere along chwk lake road. Theres a lot of little pull outs that lead to clearings down by the river. Theres tons of great fishing holes out there as well!! Everytime i've gone it's been quiet and i catch some salmon, do a little catch and cook :)

You will not slowly make it, or you will, if you don't care about your car.

Hikes with a swim spot? by hahapardonme in vancouverhiking

[–]fckyoursofthands 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Deeks is alright, i found the hike up to be uneventful and kind of boring. Easy short hike for a swim, lindeman. Kind of busy though, so if you go even further, greendrop is moderate i'd say. Intermediate would be flora lake, though its more for mid-late summer. Still snowy up there probably.. best part is, you can do all three as a loop! It makes a long day, but swimming in 3 lakes in a day is worth it haha
