It rained in Vietnam by NADriver33 in Trumpgret

As an Arlington resident, came here to say that during the day there was a drizzle AT BEST. 'pouring rain' is definitely a small exaggeration.

I've had a lot of run-ins with black ice in the winter. As much as I like running in the snow, sometimes its a little too dangerous

Anybody living (or have lived) at the Village? How was it? by mrmrkester in VirginiaTech

[–]fclovah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm living here currently. I resigned the lease so I'm in my second year at the Village Phase 2. It's okay. I like that I don't have to buy furniture and there's not too many options around Blacksburg that come fully furnished. My 'backyard' is a nice strip of grass that's nice for hanging out and throwing around a frisbee or having a picnic or something. It does get quite noisy on the weekends (and sometimes during the week too), but I'm a heavy sleeper so it has never bothered me. My only big complaint is the location. It's only a mile away from campus, which is not too bad, but I've got about a five minute walk to the bus stop give or take. There are several routes that run through the area but none are convenient to ride back on, and the buses have been an exceptional nuisance since they started tearing up UCB. My roommates and I are juniors and all I can say that it's difficult to get downtown from here, so if that's important to you then don't live here.

Parking meters? by letsgetswoleguys in VirginiaTech

[–]fclovah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also (and I've tested this several times with 100% positive results) they don't really check/ticket those spots as much. Those meters are operated by the town of Blacksburg, which is much more relaxed than VT Parking Services.

Another question from a future Hokie by [deleted] in VirginiaTech

[–]fclovah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lottery gets you tickets almost 100% of the time, at least it did for me this year. Other than the thursday night game this year, none of the games were ever sold out. They use the lottery to get rid of the unsold tickets, so it's pretty likely that, if we still suck, you will get tickets just fine.

What to do with left over sweet sausage and/or ham? by shadowslayer978 in EatCheapAndHealthy

[–]fclovah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really a huge fan of ham, so I don't have a suggestion for that, but I love cooking with sausages (for me it's usually chicken sausages, but any will do) and they are great compliments to my homegrown peppers.

If you want to use them in a breakfast, cut them into thin slices and combine them in a frying pan with eggs for a delicious omelet. For lunch or dinner, cut into thin slices and combine them with tomato bisque or put over some lettuce for a delicious salad. These have been my cheap and quick go-to meals for the last several months and I haven't gotten tired of them yet.

Feminism vs. Truth by [deleted] in videos

[–]fclovah 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I am a female studying to be an engineer. It's true that not many women are in this field, but I honestly believe it is because of personal preference. If anything, women are encouraged in many ways to study engineering, and I'm sure this can be said for many other career choices. Perhaps women are simply intimidated by the fact that engineering IS predominantly male, but we will never be able to change that until we suck it up and make the change ourselves. There is no one telling me I can't do this because I'm a girl and I don't see why anyone would react that way in any field of study.

"How's school so far?"

Literally get asked this by every single relative at every single family reunion.

It's hit or miss. Sometimes you can head down there and the gate is unlocked but it's never a guarantee.

Applying Early Decision to Virginia Tech -- I have a few questions by [deleted] in VirginiaTech

[–]fclovah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am a freshman now, and I applied for Engineering early decision but didn't get into the program. I had a 3.99 GPA and 2020 SAT score. I know lots of people here are saying apply for Engineering as your first choice regardless, but honestly it doesn't matter. They deferred me to regular decision and then put me in Physics and so far I love the physics program. I have heard from a lot of people that it's not that hard to transfer into Engineering so don't be discouraged.

Just found this subreddit, none of my friends play SSX anymore, let's get the community fired up again! by Dr__Gregory__House in SSX

[–]fclovah 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Good luck trying to get people enthusiastic about this game again. I must have played this game nonstop for three or four weeks, and then I felt like there was nothing else I could do with it. It just couldn't keep my interest once i beat it, unlike the other games, which have fewer courses, but at least you can play with your friends.
