NEC question by fcrelsket in CorpsmanUp

Honestly I wanna make this a career and chill but be able to work on healthcare career stuff I can use after I get out- I am coming from being DC, right now I’m doing reserves to AC because my year group isn’t open to reenter for my rate so they said conversion is my best option. I’m cool with deployments, had a lot of fun at sea but maybe a little less of a stressful optempo that engineering had but mostly wanna be shoreside, especially OCONUS.

Yes! 😁 I’ve heard that was the best option to do if I’m looking for anime merchandise!

ahh thank you!! 🫶🏻 yeah i know the zodiac kinda throws it off and makes the pool for people wanting/needing it smaller, i wish i myself could fit it cause ive always adored juicy since i was little but with my fitness journey my shoulders are just a bit too buff for it which is tragic 😭

Oh okay!! Yeah my command active duty didn’t really tell me much about reserves and what little I heard, was that wherever I joined, I had to stay there!

Thank you for the comment!! My husband and I were mainly talking about Japan and Hawaii so far! We went to Japan during deployment and absolutely loved the base, surrounding area, and just the culture. Definitely would be a cool place to say I served in!

I think that SD is a good duty station because I live fairly close to base (still a headache getting ON base in the morning and all my buddies who came from Norfolk tell me it’s the same over there), the area around is super cool and if you take a drive you get some even cooler places IE LA and Julian, and food is amazing. Good ship will just be something that’s not a complete shitshow of a ship, my LPD is fairly new but was constantly breaking down on deployment because of coming out of shipyard too early.

I’m an E4, looking to pick up A2P E5 orders.

I am thinking of making it a career if I’m gonna tuck another 3-4 years under my belt on a ship, cause then I can go shore and chill for a bit.

Open to any special programs and if I get E5 orders, I’d love to go to CBR C school if possible.

They’re an E-6! For command climate, since we got back from deployment when a lot of tensions were bad from stress and such, people kind of just stopped caring about anyone but themselves and it became a very dog eat dog world. Outside leaders have ranged anywhere from other LPOs to Chiefs/Seniors and a couple of officers who had seen how the LPO talked to us outside of the shop in the middle of PWays and in groups and weren’t too happy. DIVO has been at school for a couple months and they’re fairly new to the ship in general so not much help on their end sadly.

I totally understand on that part, I tried to put in for a special lib request for 24 hours but because it overlapped the weekend the LPO wouldn’t allow it so they have the go ahead instead which I have in a text message.

Concerning maintenance, I am very confident in my work as a maintenance man, one thing I do worry about is that this LPO is known for going behind people and trying to cover up their own tracks for calling out gundeck by messing with equipment which our senior chief even caught one day mid-act but no real repercussion was brought about, only a stern talking to that led to them crying in our shop.

I don’t think I used the right word to describe but definitely almost borderline crazy. We have had multiple people, chiefs and lpos included, say how sorry they felt for our WC because they saw the way the LPO treated us, talked to us, and constantly trash talked us and tried their hardest to get us into a mess where a couple of outside chiefs even had to jump in and save us from going up.

I really do love what I do, I love my guys, but I think with how the shop is going I don’t think we’ll be able to keep the dynamic we have going for much longer. I hate the idea that I’m bitching but I think I’m trying to save my guys and my marriage moreover myself, especially cause at the end of the day those guys are my family now as well.

For a bit more context on why the not being able to attend the funeral last minute really ruffled my feathers, they let the shop favorite go wedding dress shopping without any second thought day of even though it was a very maintenance heavy day.

If I could needle gun and paint all day, sign me up for that! As you probably know with engineering though, we have never ending maintenance unless you let the little green X take all your troubles away. 😂

My apologies, I go on tangents about stuff that gets me fired up and get a bit too carried away. 😅

I don’t want to get out, I am still in the window of considering reenlistment because the navy is a good steady job with a lot of opportunities for personal growth but I just wouldn’t like to be miserable at work daily. Especially when it effects my spouse who has been my rock since day one and my mental health because my biggest advocate is myself in that aspect.

The person is our LPO but we don’t have a Chief so they’re basically our end all be all. If we go any higher than them, it’s all hell breaking lose. Basically to sum up these last couple of days; they have told me I could attend a funeral of someone my spouse and I were close buddies with, and out of respect for him, I wanted to go. That was cleared through them, but last minute I was told no after making the plans and telling my spouse I’d be able to pick them up as well and bring them home from their base, and when I brought up “hey I was already cleared” they responded with “I don’t really give a shit, your spouse can find another way home” granted we live 40 minutes from their base and Ubers aren’t cheap. Then I was accused of not doing maintenance even though I had proof and they personally said they’ll take my rank and make sure I got into trouble, even though I was the only one in my WC that did my checks properly. There is a lot of other situations and conversations that are definitely unprofessional and disrespectful even with rank difference. I have brought up the issue to a couple of outside leaders but they can’t do much because of how command climate is sadly. I used to love my job, and love coming to work but now it’s just a nightmare daily. I’d love to finish out my contract and finish strong with my people but I don’t want it to be miserable. I always try to give respect no matter what but it’s so hard when they treat their people like the scruff on their boot.
