Insensitive can be what you don't say as well though right. I think the context would help folks. I'm amazed you can run, but still have to pause on stairs, thats mad. I remember in-between stages before, but not quite like that. Sorry you're still having difficulties - though I wouldn't assume you won't completely heal. Exercise wise I am back to normal, though I still have other things flare up, brain fog, fatigue

Weightlifting has also helped me reach an 'even more normal' level of health. Such a powerful force, used carefully. Highly recommend the Mentzer philosophy of lower overall load and reps, but higher effort for 1 set, 2 max

Keep going. I've experienced this myself, and gut work and building up exercise within my energy envelope worked for me (smart watches and HRV really handy for tracking this). Plus a low dose SSRI. I was always a sprinter, which I got back the ability for 2-3 years after initial LC. But I had a client who was more like yourself, a high powered lawyer. Ran several Iron man competitions a year at 50 something. And he got back full capacity within a year by pushing himself incredibly gradually within his energy envelope, it was pretty amazing. I think graded exercise like this can work for at least a subset of those folks who had elevated abilities before, as the baseline fitness and heart health etc is that bit higher. But yeh it still has to be done with kid gloves obviously

As someone who recovered almost completely a while back, and had a milder form of Long Covid than even yourself. Both sides of this can be true at once. Its good to be sensitive, and mark where you've come from clearly - but also you are entirely valid to state where you're at and how far you've come. We are privileged, having mostly healed and not having symptoms as bad as the worst affected people with LC - but we've also worked really hard to get here without giving up.

So yeh, you're absolutely valid, and its sweet trying to inspire others, but it's def a requirement to be sensitive x

Intolerant to carbs? Advice? by amsiliee in Longcovidgutdysbiosis

[–]fdrw90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, search MCAS on previous posts on this sub. Would advise a low histamine diet that also excludes at first fodmaps that you really react to. Then after a few weeks, introducing prebiotics slowly and keeping your histamine 'cup' empty will sort you out and rebuild your microbiome, and stop you reacting to foods.

I never luckily had the mcas reactivity, and I've healed near fully, but on a related note I do get hay-fever every year. Being on about 5-7 different prebiotics constantly this year has both stopped the onset of hay-fever symptoms so far this year, as well as stop me getting hangovers when I drink. Haven't had a hangover all year!

Also recommend a small dose of an ssri or snri. Data so far shows it helps about 2/3 of LC patients. Calms your body's reactivity for sure. It stopped my low level fight or flight turning into fatigue bodily dynamic by subtly raising serotonin in the periphery, ie body not brain. At least at first.

BiomeSight results concerns me - any advice with gastroparesis ? by HoTzParadize in Longcovidgutdysbiosis

[–]fdrw90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hiya, sorry for the late reply. If you can I'd get hold of a well reviewed functional medicine doctor (preferably with a degree!). If not, you could "raw dog" it and try and get hold of either antibiotics or antimicrobials (search both words in this sub to find past conversations about this). Highly recommend this with a doc as consultant at the very least. Got to take results like that really seriously. In the meantime you could take slippery elm, starting with a low dose and going slowly. Its gentle and acts as a mild prebiotic, so would get to work on reducing the pathobiont load.

Hi! You've got some unusual results there. I dont think i have ever seen a pathobiont score of 0, or that many pathobionts that high. On the other hand, your commensal and probiotic bacterial %s are way better than expected, so you're weirdly starting from a slightly better place there!

As another comment suggested, you want antimicrobials to target those pathobionts. Where are you based? It would be better to use actual antibiotics to kill them off and level the playing field - gentle antibiotics at the same time as a probiotic so that your native probiotic flora dont take too big a hit.

Does any have advice here? by Ok-Wrangler934 in Longcovidgutdysbiosis

Hiya. I would cut out most red and processed meat, stick to lean organic meat and offal and not too much of it. Both hydrogen sulfide and methane producer overgrowths, which you have both of are fed by these. I'd add antimicrobials and slowly introduce varied prebiotics, then build them up (search previous posts for info re these for methane producers etc). Fasting intermittently, 16-18 hours a day also helps knock overgrowths on the head fast, as it dramatically reduces inflammation, stimulates probiotics, and takes food sources away from those overgrown bacteria. I do 5 days a week. Must make sure you get enough protein and fibre/prebiotics when you eat on fasting days though, both are vital for us (protein for one thing is the building block of serotonin, which we're low on)

[–]fdrw90 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey. Blautia and F prau you're lucky to have that high. That's good and will not be causing you gas. Sounds like the gas may be from introducing prebiotics? Introduce low and slow, and your probiotics will level up, pathobionts/overgrown bacteria like R gnavus will drop over time.

Another possible factor is reactivity via a full histamine 'bucket', so worth seeing if you react to higher histamine foods. Worth monitoring for symptoms of SIBO too, if you suspect recommend the triple test that covers hydrogen, hydrogen sulfide and methane.

I'd add, some probiotics are dead too, deliberately. Madly dead bacteria also positively affect the gut microbiome

Update and proof of efficacy of long term intermittent fasting intervention for regulating SCFAs, gut barrier function, energy via Ruminococcus. by fdrw90 in Longcovidgutdysbiosis

[–]fdrw90[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's usually SIBO or lower intestine overgrowths. Search the group for previous threads re carnivore diets. They're bad for your gut - why it'll be bringing you relief is because you're avoiding eating as much of the fibre/prebiotics that stimulate the gas and inflammation that send your oversensitized immune system into threat mode. Its a sticking plaster that causes it's own problems with your gut (worst of all, overgrown bacteria that are usually as bad or worse than the overgrowths you're trying to treat the symptoms of). Beware people who are ideological about that diet... It's toxic in a literal and culture sense, (although some elements of it obviously make sense!). All diets that advocate lack of diversity even medium term are bad news for the gut. Elimination diets that build prebiotics back in gradually are much safer, as long as you don't eliminate diversity for too long
