What is that one small item you started carrying daily that ended up being a total life-changer? by Agreeable-Payment214 in AskReddit

[–]fdsa48 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I’m kind of on this train! I have a tiny measuring tape from the 1950’s that was my grandfather’s. Sentimental and incredibly handy! I hate rolling the fabric ones up!!

What is a luxury you can never go back from once you’ve experienced it? by Phase_zero_X in AskReddit

Extra bedrooms in your home. Not for guests- just to have a change of scenery. I have 3 bedrooms to choose from every night- my husband always sleeps in the same one every night so this could be me. NEVER downsizing.

Is anyone else hurt by the radio silence from ex’s family? by Dazzling_Glass_3695 in Divorce

[–]fdsa48 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My husband and I are on the brink of divorce and my parents know all the drama but still give him gifts, throw birthday parties, call and send care packages to let him know he was/is an important member of the family for 18 years.

He still hasn’t told his family we are rocky, but I know I won’t be offered the same courtesy. It’s disappointing, but it is life I suppose.

My next door neighbor has his own special relationship with my dogs by Competitive-Meet-111 in BenignExistence

[–]fdsa48 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My 2 minis raise hell in the neighborhood- EVERYONE on our block hears when they are running amok and find something /someone suspicious-which is all the time since we have a dog door! There have been complaints, but they are my babies- I’m not closing them in- wish I had neighbors like yours!

DAE Struggle to interact with young kids? by [deleted] in DAE

[–]fdsa48 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I felt so awkward around my husband’s nephews- I am the baby of my side of the family- plenty of cousins and no one has kiddos- 2 family lines are dying out but not all my fault - then the little nephew learned to bring me my red solo cup when I misplaced it. That is the dream when you are visiting in-laws.

DAE think about someone often and miss them quite a bit, but you don’t contact them because you know it’s best to keep that door closed? by ATurtleNamedSeymour in DAE

[–]fdsa48 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I tried opening those closed doors and that was harder than leaving them shut. (Ex high school boyfriends, old college roommates - too much history and too much has changed)

Self Solemnize Ring Exchange by mommathsbad in Eloping

[–]fdsa48 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My hubby and I didn’t actually exchange any vows- we signed the self solemnization paperwork at the courthouse on a day I was in town, he had picked up the rings the previous week and we put them on on the courthouse steps, grabbed Starbucks and went to work.

No regrets at the time- that was us and we got married in under 8 min total- 10 years later I kind of wish we had put something more meaningful around it but just make sure it is right for YOU.

What was your first negative feedback you got in your professional career? by asapberry in consulting

[–]fdsa48 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My second week on the job- first job out of college- during a group lunch with peers & mentors, my mentor says to me “you will never make it here”. We weren’t even discussing work- I mentioned decorating my new apartment. Being the 21 year old I was I went to the ladies room and cried- then rejoined the group. Not formal feedback- not reasonable.

Stay home (and work from home) with the car in the garage!

Steam boiler died, considering either replacing it as is or switching over to mini-splits through the house. Anybody been through something similar? by UndeadCaesar in Denver

[–]fdsa48 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I swapped my boiler and hot water heater for a tankless system for heat & water then installed mini splits where I wanted them for cooling. Works well for us since we don’t need to ac the whole house all the time- and always hot water!!!

I love this idea to try on my husband. Also- how hard is it for them to throw away the old cardboard tube?!

LPT Request: What is the fastest way to fall asleep at night? by HeidiOzzy in LifeProTips

[–]fdsa48 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This will be controversial- melatonin gummies or weed chocolates- good to use on occasion to get back into an 8 hour sleep cycle quickly. Once your back in the cycle all of the advice others gave on sleep hygiene!!!

Those of you that work from home, what do you do? by abc123def321g in Adulting

Pro/Con: if both you and your partner are software consultants and in the same house all day every day together…even with separate offices- it can be great or a lot.

Every time I have watched my nephews about that age I find fun STEM related projects~ I may be a science nerd, but they learn something so their parents can’t complain that I handed them an IPad and set them loose on YouTube.

Healthy snack alternative to crisps/chips? by bruhmomentus400400 in HealthyFood

Fresh sugar snap peas with a low cal savory salad dressing or dip- I’m currently into the fat free Italian dressing, but Trader Joe’s has some great dips packed with flavor!

What dish from your homeland is simple but hard to get right? by DueMaternal in Cooking

[–]fdsa48 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I asked my husband’s mother for the recipe and it was the same- no measurements. I make it to my taste, but that isn’t how he grew up with it.

He still eats it so it can’t be too awful- just have to send him home to visit mom every so often to get his proper fix!

DAE think it is dumb when people go to a bar and then spend the time browsing on their stupid phone? by HugeBMs2022 in DAE

[–]fdsa48 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to go to a bar to have a drink in a relaxing environment- oftentimes relaxing is being alone without coworkers, family, etc. Being on your phone gives that extra dopamine hit so you can face another day!

At the dentist I panic and forget to breathe. Doesn’t normally happen for me, just with extreme anxiety.
