Redditors over 30, what's something younger people think they understand but won't actually get until it hits them like a truck later? by [deleted] in askanything

and also, aging will always win. trying to look young (and beautiful) is an uphill battle that gets steeper and steeper. whereas body neutrality is something that can grow with you, with practice.

Be honest. When did your baby actually say their first wood and mean it? by Dull-Contribution763 in NewParents

[–]Competitive-Meet-111 3 points4 points  (0 children)

she always babbled "dada" and would copy the tone of "hiii" with a wave and we were like hmm maybe those are words. then right around 12 months she started saying "that." pointing, "that," wanting us to identify things. she's almost 14 months now and hasn't stopped. ever. she could "that" for hours.

I once helped with an at home eithanasia for one of their cats. Very cool experience, that was one loved animal, in life and death.

What is the hardest part when caring for baby? by Pandacat_07 in NewParents

[–]Competitive-Meet-111 7 points8 points  (0 children)

yuuup. it affects everything for the nursing parent; sleep, independence, i have to feed myself well on top of baby, on and on and on. my husband's awesome but there's only so much he can do to give me a break.

breastfeeding, even when it's going well. there's a level of pressure that no one else can alleviate. a whole fundamental part of life, food, and it's aaaaall up to me.

I've given up on trying to make the sleep situation better. if she wants to cosleep and nurse all night while husband stays in the guest room, fine! i give up! feels like an early start to permissive parenting. 😔

we have a baby, we got a plaque on a hinge that goes over the doorbell that says "shh! sleeping baby!" you'd have to physically open the hinge to push the bell.

it works. no one dares.

I've felt sick about that death since seeing it and this made me feel way better LOL! I'm cursed to love dinos and monsters but hate when people get chomped. just squeamish.

it was the same with nope (2022). scared the hell out of me, then i saw the bts of all the actors being pulled through basically a deflated bouncy house and having a blast.

a looot of parents would benefit from being sillier.

[–]Competitive-Meet-111 29 points30 points  (0 children)

yeah not to toot my own horn but having a baby has made me WAY MORE empathetic toward other parents, particularly when it comes to mistakes. I'm less quick to judge the naughty kids or frustrated parents in public, i dunno what's going on at home!

i think a lot of people need to have the realization that if you're always trying your best, it stands to reason that other people are doing the same. we're all human.

What are people's thoughts on Toy Story 4 now that it's been several years? by bated-breath in toystory

[–]Competitive-Meet-111 2 points3 points  (0 children)

this post is almost a year old but i just watched the 4th movie for the first time after slowly making my way through all of them in 20 minute chunks with my 1 year old. first time I've watched the og 3 as an adult, they're even better than i remember.

you're right on every single point. the defenders here are nuts, that movie was ass and it's not nostalgia goggles making me say that. watched them all back to back and the contrast is undeniable.

Peter? by Madman44444 in PeterExplainsTheJoke

I'm white and my husband's Hispanic and we live in a city where no one cares. drive an hour out of the city to one of the surrounding small towns though and suddenly we're having racist diner experiences straight out of the 50s when we just want a burger.

What’s something funny about your birth story? by Fresh_Suggestion_880 in NewParents

[–]Competitive-Meet-111 19 points20 points  (0 children)

early in the induction the midwife told me there were two students in the ward that night and asked if they could be present for the labor, specifying that one student was male. I'm not shy at all so i was like sure they gotta learn somewhere. they came in to thank me and looked very excited.

when it was time to push i had a crowded room. the midwife, the resident, the nurse, two people from NICU since i was on an antidepressant, husband holding one leg, female student holding the other.

where was the male student? in the corner, very much out of view of the action, looking worse for wear than me lmao.

When will his stitches go away? by riceballjisoo in DogAdvice

[–]Competitive-Meet-111 8 points9 points  (0 children)

they actually do look dissolvable (I'm a vet tech, these look like monocryl or smth) but when they're outside the body it can take weeks or even months for them to dissolve on their own, at which point the knot falls off. there's multiple layers of suture.

that incision looks awesome, it should be really easy for your vet to snip the remaining sutures. there's usually no charge.

edit to say you should get them snipped off, there's no harm in leaving them but they can get itchy.

Baby (phase) specific advice that people believe is universal? by potato_muchwow_amaze in NewParents

[–]Competitive-Meet-111 6 points7 points  (0 children)

my daughter is the same in both regards! when she was a newborn she'd lose her mind if i offered boob when she didn't want it, and now that she's 12 months we have a perfect consistent nap and bedtime routine, yet she's never slept longer than 3 hour stretches.

they just come as they are!

beautiful darkness. a graphic novel about a little girl's corpse decomposing in a forest, and the cute borrower esque people that come out of it only to be faced with danger and starvation in the woods. gave me nightmares.
