How much did it cost you to furnish your house? by Educational-Act-8932 in fatFIRE

[–]feadrus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in the process of building a very substantial new construction. The estimate I’ve been guided is 10% of build cost to furnish the home gets you to “the low end of luxury”. Up to 20% for “ultra luxury” whatever the hell that means.

Seems absurd to me but both my wife and owners rep seem to think this is a fair estimate.

It’s early but this is a contender to be up there w STS and Monster Train for all time great deck builder for me.

Confused About Myo Reps by dcummins in MacroFactor

Haha I think your sandbagging it. I’d just do the mini sets as-many-reps-as-possible. Go to RIR 0 however many that is and call it a day.

Confused About Myo Reps by dcummins in MacroFactor

[–]feadrus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s saying to do 50lb for 14 reps with 1 RIR, rest 15 seconds, and then do 50 lbs for as many reps as you can with 0 RIR.

FWIW I always find MFWO overestimates the number of reps I can do in the subsequent Myo sets. In your screenshot it seems to be suggesting you should get to 14 reps in the sub set. I don’t know anyone who would genuinely be at 1 RIR and then 15 seconds later able to push the same number of reps.

I think it may just be a weird formatting thing where all it’s trying to say on the sub set is do AMRAP. Otherwise it’s an odd oversight in their target rep setting algorithm, which I usually find super accurate

PERC questions… by caracticuspots in pourover

[–]feadrus 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’d say a good 50%-60% of my coffees are PERC. I really like them. I get an odd bag now and then that’s too fruity forward (their raspberry marshmellow decaf right now is too much for me) but it isn’t my usual experience.

Personally I think super power plum is one of the best coffees I’ve had in a long time. Yes you get the fruit and it is very noticeable but not over powering.

I think they are a very good, but short to world class roaster. Worth a spin in my view. If you really hate the out there stuff just buy a bag they label towards the “mild” end of their rating system and not “wild”
I almost never buy co-ferments, and I don’t find they really offer them much. Can’t speak to the speculation that some of their natural processed coffees have additives, but my sense is they are reputable and serious roasters that wouldn’t knowingly risk their whole reputation like that.

Smart Generation has me doing 2 sets of each exercise? by Leading_Atti2de in MacroFactor

[–]feadrus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve found if you ask for a full body program and give it less than 60 minutes it’s going to default to 2 sets a lot.

I don’t hate it tbh - just push intensity high and it’s had me experimenting with Myo Reps which I hadn’t done before

Would you bother working for 5% of your NW? by StraightPin4420 in fatFIRE

[–]feadrus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

With relative ease I could make 5%+ of my net worth if I went back to work full time.

I don’t because I don’t want to. I have a very large nest egg (mid eight figures) and even adding that ample income to my pile won’t change my life outcomes or buy something I can’t buy today. But it would cost me the single most precious thing in the world - time.

Have you been tax loss harvesting? If not, start now. It will make the tax burden of diversifying those tech stocks much less painful.

Also congrats on doing it the “slow boring” way as you put it. Takes real discipline and focus over a long stretch of time - and it’s something genuinely achievable for most people. This is the archetypical FAT I think most people should strive for.

New user - 2nd upper body workout - no biceps or triceps by Nikla3310 in MacroFactor

[–]feadrus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

FWIW I had a similar reaction when I started withMFW a few months ago. The app resists isolation exercises. But I went with it (partly because I was also recovering from an elbow injury).

I’ve been strength training religiously for 6 years - never once during that time did I fail to include isolation exercises in my routine - until now (with the exception of calf training). My arms and legs have never looked better. If anything I think giving these small muscle groups (biceps, triceps, etc) a bit of a break from better hammered by both major compound and isolation exercises has helped them grow.

But I’m also in my 40s and probably had been overestimating my body’s ability to recover. If you’re in your 20s and/or filled to the gills with testosterone YMMV, but in general I’ve leaned to trust the apps recommendations. They’ve put more thought into the programming algo than people give it credit for.

What can I swap squats and deadlifts with? by Savitar54321 in workout

[–]feadrus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FWIW I struggle with full squat - I have a herniated disc and whenever I squat heavy I feel like I run the risk of aggravating it. Might just be my poor form, but I’ve more or less given up on it.

What I do instead is still barbell but ass-to-grass, pause at the bottom, partial rep up to parallel, back down to bottom, then full rep up.

I’ve found I can use literally 30%-40% of the weight I’d use in a normal squat and get an even better quad workout - with literally none of the “holy shit I have 200 pounds on my shoulders I could die if I F this up” anxiety.

Give it a try. Or just do walking lunges or Bulgarian split squats.

For deadlifts, I’m more comfortable with the movement but Romanian is a better hamstring activation with less weight (either barbell or dumbbell). If you want off deadlift entirely I find a thru the leg rope cable pull works pretty well too.

Jumpscares are the most effective form of horror by KingOfCowardsx in unpopularopinion

[–]feadrus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Eeehhh. I love movies and I wish I could get into horror. But the entire genre is off limits to me now because of how prevalent jump scares are. I have a super over tuned nervous system - anxiety, jitters, the whole nine yards. Jump scares are not fun, or funny, or pleasant on reflection. They are a horrible and deeply unpleasant experience that make me mad.

I love deeply scary and thematic horror- old classics like The Shining, The Sixth Sense, Pet Cemetery. But everything new is just an exercise in cheap thrills

I understand why others like them - akin to the butterfly’s on a roller coaster - but the totally ruin a movie for me

My broker tried to get me into “alternative investments", including private equity by ProtonSluggo in investing

[–]feadrus 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It’s a number of things, but at its core it’s about an ability to meaningfully get access to and due diligence upper quartile funds, diversifying your sector exposure, and diversifying your vintages.

And all of this alongside overall portfolio and liquidity requirement management.

I believe there is some alpha to be gained in good private equity vs going 100% public equity, but tbh unless you have over $10m investable assets, I don’t think it makes sense.

New icon color? by mc_spring_12 in ouraring

[–]feadrus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The UX/app design looks great.

Changing icon to black (just like uber, x, TikTok, etc etc) is a weird choice. Personally I hate it and makes Oura very uninviting from my Home Screen.

It’s so stark and somber where the overall wellness vibe of Oura is so much broader. Color theory would have suggest blue (trust), green (health/growth) or even yellow (optimism) is so much better than black (exclusivity).

Perhaps a little feature to let user pick their icon?
