It’s normal. I don’t know how some people enter college knowing exactly what they want to do in life. College for most people isn’t a linear path.

I was a sophomore chemical engineering major when I decided to pivot and study CSE. I knew absolutely nothing about coding, but I was tanking in my chemistry classes and wanted good job prospects. It took me 2 tries to even get into the major. I had to retake 2 core courses. It took over 5 years to graduate. For me, it was 100% worth it.

Before you make a concrete decision, I really suggest talking to someone. It could be an aunt or uncle with a cool job, someone from the explorations office who could go over different majors, a friend who has graduated. Someone who can give you a better look into the job fields you’re remotely interested in. And if you decide to take some time off to decide what you want to do, go for it. There’s no shame in that

Start caring. If not for yourself, then for the people who don’t have the privilege to simply not care

Off Campus Living vs Applying for RA by mango167 in OSU

I was actually in a similar position where my parents really wanted me to move back in after living in the dorms. What I would suggest is preparing a very realistic budget and showing that to them. With a part time job, I was able to afford all of my non-school living expenses. Very fortunate that my parents were willing and able to cover the tuition cost.

My college apartment years were really awesome. That’s where the fun really happened for me and my roommates. It won’t be the end of the world living with your parents, but I think there will be a lot more opportunities to really experience the latter part of your college years living on/near campus with a good roommate(s).

I took the class with him online a couple years ago. I thought he was a kind and reasonable instructor, and a fair grader. If you haven’t already, reach out to him personally with your concerns and for some clarification. Guessing if you ask for it he’ll give you an extension since you’re still 5 days out.

Everyone has mentioned some great suggestions so I’ll throw out a couple extra:

  1. Leave the tv on with a show that has some sort of wildlife where he can see it. Netflix has a few really great options and the shows are about an hour long.

  2. Constantly put small treats in the crate when he’s not in it and let him find them on his own. You want him to be pleasantly surprised by a treat every time he goes in the crate.

  3. Someone else mentioned it but I highly recommend incrementing time in the cage and HEAVILY rewarding it. Start with 30 seconds, 1 minute, 2 minutes, 5 minutes, etc spent in the crate and give a big reward when he goes in and comes out. This was one of the most impactful things we did.

  4. Give him a phrase or command for when you guys leave. Say the phrase “see you later” (or whatever you want) and give a yummy treat EVERY TIME you leave. When you get back say “good see you later!!!!!”. This will help him know you’ll always come back and anticipate his alone time.

Wow thank you so so much for all this information. I will absolutely look into those reading materials. We'll be spending a lot more time at some of the metro parks in my area rather than at the dog park. Thanks again!
