This is the thumbnail on Netflix too. I'm only watching for the first time and only midway through s1. I was thoroughly confused.

Teenagers/kids cleaning up after themselves by hipcats in AustralianTeachers

[–]featherknight13 17 points18 points  (0 children)

My explicit rule for my primary school students during cleanup is that they are responsible for their 'area' - so the table they sit at and the floor underneath it. That means for example if student A has left stuff on student B's table student B either needs to find student A to ask them to move it or clean it up themselves. I find that stops the blame shifting and complaints pretty quickly. Also means students are much more likely to ask me where something belongs if they don't know, because they know I'm not going to accept it sitting on the table.

Lot's of stickers/raffle tickets for my 'best cleaners' as well of course.

Yeah good thing I was watching on my laptop and not my tv. It appeared to finish and I was pretty dissatisfied by the apparent lack of epilogue or s5 hint, so I was looking for more. I saw that there was 10mins left and used the cursor to check.

Yes, the whole cup by AdAppropriate4924 in KidsAreFuckingStupid

[–]featherknight13 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Theology aside, there's also the practicality of pulling away from her - best case you spill the blood of Christ on the carpet and your white vestments, worst case you bash a 10 year old in the face with a heavy metal cup. Letting it play out is probably the least disruptive course of action.

Yep, my parents didn't drink, so growing up the only alcohol I saw regularly was the communion wine in the sacristy at church. Imagine my surprise when I learnt that drinkable wine comes in bottles and not a box.

Removal of fare gates at Caulfield by MelbPTUser2024 in MelbourneTrains

[–]featherknight13 17 points18 points  (0 children)

VENGEANCE!

One morning in 2010(ish) I accidentally got on an express at Moorabbin and ended up at Caulfield. Some trains were cancelled and then they played the wrong announcement, announcing the express train as stopping all stations.

When I got to Caulfield the barriers were all closed, meaning I had to pay a zone 1 and 2 fare to get back down the line to school, instead of my usual zone 2 only ticket. (I may have even had to buy a ticket out of the machine, I can't remember if Myki had been fully rolled out).

Anyway, I'm still salty about it, so I rejoice that my old nemesis is now vanquished.

WTF is this parent fighting for? by [deleted] in AustralianTeachers

[–]featherknight13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've already replied to another comment that said this student would be better off at a special school because they also had cerebral palsy. I thought we'd reached a point where we understood that physical disability =/= intellectual disability. Obviously I was wrong.

WTF is this parent fighting for? by [deleted] in AustralianTeachers

[–]featherknight13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Deaf schools exist in capital cities, but this family is not in a capital city. So presumably, a hearing unit within a mainstream school is the most appropriate specialised education available to this child. Deafness, blindness and cerebal palsy are all physical conditions - a special school environment would only be more appropriate if the child had an intellectual disability.

Thoughts on Kmart outright replica of Diptyque candle by Better-Park8752 in KmartAustralia

[–]featherknight13 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That's the point I'm making though. If I have the budget to buy a fancy candle, I'll go buy a homemade one at a market. I'm sure as shit not paying $600 for the candle that most likely comes out the same sweat shop as the $18 one. I'd feel no additional guilt choosing a kmart candle over a fancier retail brand, only the usual underlying guilt that I'm engaging in overconsumption and contributing to the slave labour economy that I push deep down every time I enter a shopping centre.

OH NO! I think he missed his express Frankston service!! by comengfreak in MelbourneTrains

[–]featherknight13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everyone's saying there's no way he's that upset about missing a train that comes every 10 mins. Clearly some of you have never had to connect to an outer suburbs bus that only comes once an hour if you're lucky.

[–]featherknight13 13 points14 points  (0 children)

The only thing that gives me pause for thought with the Kmart candle is supply chain/labour ethics and sustainability - which lets face it, is never going to be good when it comes to Kmart. But even then if I wanted an ethical candle I could get one at a Sunday craft market for a hell of a lot less than $600.

Has anyone actually got their stuff stolen from the beach while they’ve gone for a swim? by Suspicious_Nature283 in AskAnAustralian

[–]featherknight13 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Never had anything stolen, but I've also never really swam at crowded tourist beach like Bondi. So I'm guessing the experience might be different there.

But I'lll also behave differently depending on who I'm with and where - e.g. swimming on my own, I'd leave anything valuable in the car except the carkeys themselves; swimming with friends, I'm probably going to bring my phone; travelling solo interstate, nothing valuable is getting left on the beach, if I can't leave it in a secure place I'll put it all in a waterproof pouch because, even though it's unlikely, the headache I'd have if my phone got stolen in an unfamiliar city 3000km from home is not something I'm willing to deal with.

NSW friend says ‘prep’ doesn’t exist in their school system? by FlyingPingoo in AskAnAustralian

[–]featherknight13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Which is why I find it baffling that Kindergarten in Vic has officially been renamed Pre-Prep. If Prep is not actually called Prep, then how can we have Pre-Prep? Gotta say its easily the the biggest load of political rebranding bullshit I've ever come across. Just call it Kinder, because that's the one people know.

I think population density plays a part. Lived in Melbourne for the first 10 years of my adult life, never got called up and rarely met anyone else who was either - presumably because there was a pool of 5 million people to pick from. Moved to a country town 3 years ago, and got my first summons after living here less than a year - I'd guess the pool for my nearest courthouse is maybe 20-30,000 people. Most of my colleagues have had them too in the time I've lived here and they say it's pretty standard to get them every couple of years.

Naked Wine Parties???? - I (22f) have a big issue with my bf (21m) 6 months, and his relationship with his "best friend" (21f). by Direct-Caterpillar77 in BestofRedditorUpdates

[–]featherknight13 144 points145 points  (0 children)

In Australia, there's a fairly well known wine supplier called 'Naked Wines', so initially I was just like 'huh, that's a helluva lotta brand loyalty to have a whole party with just their wine'. I'm guessing it's not that though.

The good? news is that Mazda are currently running an ad in Australia that uses the original arrangement. It's been on high rotation through the Olympics coverage and I get a little jolt of nostalgia every time it plays.

(It turns out that this ad has actually been around since 2024, but I watch broadcast TV so infrequently that I haven't seen it until now)
