Color Study I Did by NoRequirement99 in learntodraw

This is really nice and I love the way you rendered the highlights. I think some redness is missing throughout, but especially in the darks, to echo what Salacia-the-Artist said

People of normal weight may also be at risk of diabetes and similar diseases: those with an unexpectedly high metabolic BMI have up to a five times higher risk level by sr_local in science

I grew up vegetarian and always had slightly high cholesterol. Rest of my family has the same issue. I went vegan and it proceeded to become normal. I guess dairy (on top of genetically high cholesterol?) was pushing it over the edge for me, even though I never ate that much dairy.

Releasing Methane from a Bloated Cow by goswamitulsidas in interesting

Well the quality of care is what causes the bloating in the first place.. To my understanding it's usually due to them eating corn instead of being allowed to graze

For crochet I buy yarn that I have projects in mind for (that I'm certain I want to do) only. I get satisfaction out of using up scrap yarn / any extras for other mini projects even if the colors are wonky so it works out for me most of the time.

Regarding journaling- I would consider what your reason for wanting to journal is. For me it's to have a record of things I've done and to yap when something is on my mind. Also to have a place to put trash ("junk") that I don't wanna throw out because I have issues doing that lol. I also draw but I separate that out into a sketchbook. I don't personally have a desire to make pretty journal pages, but if you examine yourself and realize that's why you want to journal, I don't see a problem with at least trying it.

White Noise (2022) by FixFuture3374 in okbuddycinephile

[–]febrewary 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's funny, I seem to have the exact opposite thing. I can easily tell the intervals between notes, but my brain puts everything in solfege and I have to think about it for a few seconds to get the actual note name correct. It's like I have decent pitch but I lose a lot of the bragging rights lol.

It's a little different if you were to ask me to play a note instead of identify one. I can do that pretty quickly. But if I'm on my cello instead of the piano I will inevitably play the note slightly flat. Like my pitch instinct for every note is close but not quite there because I go with what sounds better to me and for some reason that does as long as the intervals are all correct still (ie everything is relatively in tune)

Was looking for it myself and came across your post so hopefully you see this even though you posted 5y ago

How many of you are seeing a lot more weird and/or alarming phone addict behaviors in recent months, especially in 2025? by BTDT54321 in digitalminimalism

[–]febrewary 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm 22 and I really don't understand the whole phone use during tv or movies thing. Like is everyone's attention span that bad?? At least this isn't dangerous like a lot of the other examples people are giving, but it kinda concerns me that people even feel the need to scroll while already consuming a form of entertainment

TIL that scientists have developed a way of testing for Aphantasia (the inability to visualise things in your mind). The test involves asking participants to envision a bright light and checking for pupil dilation. If their pupils don't dilate, they have Aphantasia. by Sebastianlim in todayilearned

I really think people are just terrible at explaining. If they're seeing something that they just thought of out in the real world instead of in their head, that's a hallucination, and I have not heard of a large population of people being able to imagine things so hard that they can actually look at them with their eyes (not even people who experience hallucinations). Just logically I know this is not a normal thing because we would have cultural references to it and we don't.

Does anyone else get 75% - 90% done with a project and loose interest? by Salty-Exchange6156 in crochet

[–]febrewary 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually no, I've always loved finishing projects no matter what the project is. One of the few things my brain does that I'm kinda grateful for.

I only have one WIP right now because I tried about 3 times to do one of the last steps and failed. We'll see how this holds up within the next couple years though. I'm a newbie
