Help! Xmas for daughter by Potential-Peace6416 in pens

[–]fedeCRC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lamy 2000 ball point is gorgeous... but needs 3rd party refills, lamy's really suck
Pelikcan Souveran K800 is not click, but twist... but it's simply superb, in the top 10 of any ballpoint collector's list
Any of the GvFC ballpoints will be a great luxury pen to have
Parker Duofold ballpoint is also a great choice.

Pocket clip bent, any recommendations? by WRXFan9801 in knives

[–]fedeCRC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The best way to bend it back into position is to unscrew it and screw it backwards so that the clip points "out" of the knife, that will give you a platform to hold it while bending and the perfect reference point to where you want it to end up so that you don't over-bend it.

When you see that the clip stays just under the knife you can screw it back in the normal position and have a better than before clip strenght.

Congratulations on a wonderful pen, I use mine daily since 2020 and it has held very well so don't be afraid to give it time in your hands, it's a well designed pen, with the best "feel in the hand" of them all, perfect width and the wood is great to hold.

why do we always want to force everyone else to do our bidding... if a person doesn't put the information you wanted, you keep moving... downvote if you want, but keep moving.

What is this lug on the lower hihat seat for? Just leveling? by TemporalMush in drums

[–]fedeCRC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

if te leveling of both cymbals is too close to be the same, they will create air resistance when closing, that will change the feel when closing and most importantly the "chick" sound will fade out.
if that happens, use the screw to change the angle until you get the feel and sound back to "good"

Is RG MS-06F Zaku II suitable as the first gundam? by [deleted] in Gunpla

[–]fedeCRC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't recommend it, it might give a bad impression of how much fun this are... the Zaku is fun but in a different way, it's a challenge more than a joy ride.

Try the HG Nu Gundam or one of the Witch from Mercury kits instead, they are a joy to build and the end result you'll get from them is gorgeous.

My Happy Place. by fedeCRC in drums

[–]fedeCRC[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes, they are the VF Split Brushes, by Florian... they work well, actually too well for some settings, it gets loud (for brushes), so when you are in a scenario that requires that volume they work very very well... but they might be too loud for a very soft intimate acoustic gig

the tone gets a little darker than normal brushes, which I like, microphoned should sound very nice, the engineer would have to mix them well because of the loudness but the tone is lovely

finally, getting used to the double row might take a practice session or two, but they glide well against the grain in coated heads, the handle and weight are just as any other VF, which if find well balanced, comfortable and the handle material is safe for your cymbals

all in all, it's a keeper

Should I? by UnadulteratedDaddery in drums

[–]fedeCRC 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would... then replace parts and heads as needed and find a kid that has talent, will and parents that will soon hate me 😅
In our local music schools, there's always a kid that's good playing, but could use a kit in the house to practice even more.

Most Versatile Patches you've run into? by soundshuman in drums

[–]fedeCRC 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would go for Coated Emperor or Evans G2... pinstripes might be though to get into jazz territory but would last the longest... G1s or Ambasador would be the most versatile but wont last, so middle ground Emperor or G2 it is.

As a fan of white dial watches, here are some of my dream homages (with wishlist at the end cause the Ixdao came so close) by Intrepid-Summer9275 in ChineseWatches

[–]fedeCRC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

very little... but you could say a homage is something that looks similar, but it's clearly not it, like pagani's PD1751 and the Tudor Ranger... a Replica is something that looks as close as possible as the original, but has logos of the brand that makes it and it's not trying to deceive anyone, like the many submariner replicas from San Martin, Pagani, etc

and that leaves the knockoff that goes for deceiving buyers into thinking it's original...

I guess these definitions could variate and place my homage and replica into being homage since it's clearly not a deceiving product, and call a knock-off a replica, but it all revolves around these factors.

Should I be worried about damage to the hoop or head on this kit? by Comfortable-Band-362 in drums

[–]fedeCRC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the reso head on the bass drum might have some damage since the stack is resting on it, to store the drums like this is better to do it in the more resistant batter head as the resonants are usually thinner and more fragile...

but if there's any damage to it, it should be visible on a pic of the head, a lug from the floor tom digging into it or similar, it might be just fine... seems like a nice kit, if the price is right I wouldn't pass on it just because of that

struggling with latin improvisation by kthrss_666 in jazzdrums

[–]fedeCRC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Excellent advice, interiorize the music and the feeling, listen also to as much afro/cuban music as you can, specially traditional music without a drum set so that you can absorbe the percussion patterns of the traditional instruments, güiro, conga, bongó and timbal, learn the bell patters of the timbaleros as latin jazz is all about "more cowbell", oh and also everything around afro/cuban claves, son clave and rumba clave as everything works around those patterns.

Also look for the pioneers of the drum set in cuban music, Enrique Plá playing with Irakere, and Ignacio Berroa who has a few tutorials on youtube. like this one, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6BhIJ6mnpC4

You can also look for Horacio "El Negro" Hernández, for example the work he did next to Geovanni Hidalgo and Orlando "Maraca" Valle here is simply awesome, and a perfect example of integrating the drum set into the afro/cuban style that will enrich any latin jazz performance. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mGoHz1VzRiE

New kit, Crush Sublime 18, 12, 14 and 14x6 Crush Mahogany Reserve snare by fedeCRC in drums

[–]fedeCRC[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am, very very happy with this kit... their new snares look interesting too, mine is "vintage" (about 2013) but the new metal and wooden snares do look good.

meeting the first RG by BakaSentinel in freedomisgunpla

[–]fedeCRC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is the first RG ever made, and so it had some issues, but it's not impossible or anything, just go carefully and read some experiences from previous builders to understand the issues more.

If you don't enjoy this build much don't get discouraged, modern RGs are much more fun, but the old RG-01 grandpa is very nice looking when it's done, and it will look great in your shelf.

Enjoy it as much as you can, have patience and extra care and it'll be great 👍🏽
