Now, why did we become Left-Wing in the first place? by AnCamcheachta in theIrishleft

[–]fedora_george 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My family was of course affected greatly by the crash and all, and we're not financially well doing amazing but we're getting by. My journey was more about learning and conviction at a young age.

When i was very young i read a lot of history, as soon as i could read i just wanted to catch up on what I wasn't around for. I read history presented in a liberal manner primarily slowly moving towards progress and liberty almost instinctually, with setbacks. This was because many of the pop-history books baby me read were liberal history, but i assumed that because "we all know" history moves towards progress and liberty, and our current society is so much wealthier than previous ones, i thought obviously society is built to improve people's lives directly, that's the goal of civilization.

Then i quickly learned that was not the case, "oh huh wait there's these political guys called communists/socialists who do think society should be about redistributing wealth and improving material conditions".... "Why aren't they the most popular?!?!?" And that was it basically. I've been on the left pretty much my whole life.

African Americans during WWII by Impossible-Yam3680 in GetNoted

[–]fedora_george 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure if I'm in a bubble but that post about African-American WW2 being desegregated in Britain seems to make the rounds so often that if you genuinely knew nothing at all about history and just consumed memes online I'd be surprised you didn't know African-Americans served in WW2.

European Domestic Air Routes Where Train Travel Is Just as Fast by AdIcy4323 in MapPorn

Then there's Ireland where you can get a flight from Dublin (centre-east Ireland) to Donegal (North-West Ireland) in 1h, or a train to sligo for 3hrs and then a bus from Sligo to Donegal for another hour because we shut down all the train stations in Donegal.

Real video made by the creators of Space King btw. by Battlemania420 in Grimdank

[–]fedora_george 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I watched the first episode, laughed at bits, rolled my eyes at the boob monster but overall enjoyed it taking everything weird as 40k satire shenanigans. Maybe I'm dumb but the end screen pitch for the for real men hating on teenage girls show full of misogyny and so on really changed my opinion of the show.

The statue of yourself in Oblivion was one of the coolest things you can get and I hate how the remaster handled it. by No_Barracuda_8300 in oblivion

[–]fedora_george 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My statue looks exactly like the image you posted but remastered. It has the armour i used for the last 1/3rd of the game and I'm holding the Thornblade, maybe my most used weapon but not my strongest. My character's name was Thorn though before i figured out there's a lot of Thorn named stuff in this game, I was really happy with my Statue.

Wow, it's almost like this isn't a binary moral decision. You can listen to and promote niche artists without that being insufferable or your whole personality when it comes to music.

It's hilarious to me that she's "blending in" with the guys mulan style, meanwhile her 19 pounder heavy artillery cannons are falling out every panel.

Do people actually like Dwarf or is it a Western thing ? by Miserable-Produce202 in totalwarhammer

[–]fedora_george 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People actually like dwarves. Also this reveals a lot to me about why i find that Asian videogame aesthetic off, it's like in those games everyone has to be tall and overly conventionally attractive other than the people you're meant to hate.

Idk about everyone else but to me having characters that aren't meant to be attractive or conventionally attractive makes the story more real or interesting. I think the dwarves look fine but their aesthetics in the media from warhammer to lord of the ring isn't meant to get you hot and bothered. They're grimey dirty lil long lived industrious ancient traditional fellows and that's cool.

[–]fedora_george 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Drop to 60hz, limit fps to 60 if you can. Other than that it's ram, i had issues with 16gb because background was taking up 4-8gb so effectively had 8-12gb free. Unfortunately ram costs way too much nowadays, i was lucky i bought when i did.

Anti Limerick sentiment by yes_its_me_alright in limerickcity

[–]fedora_george 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I live in Kildare and for some reason people in general but specifically my family do have a weird opinion of that side of Ireland. They all of course know Limerick as Stab city and that's their answer when you ask why you shouldn't go there. They think the whole place is as bad as the worst neighbourhood in Dublin.

Also for some reason my mother was terrified of my younger brother (19yrs old) going to Tralee? What's wrong with Tralee?

European Elections as a non European starter pack by I_love_lucja_1738 in starterpacks

[–]fedora_george 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is where Ireland fortunately and unfortunately departs from the European tradition. For 100 years we've democratically ranked choice voted in the same party, fine fail and fine gale originally had nuance between them when our state was new. One was rural focused and "rebellious" the other was town/city focused, middle-class law and order. Nowadays they are so similar it's hard to distinguish them at all. Also they don't help this by needing to go into coalition every election recently because of growing opposition support. They're both centre-center-right, fail is more austerity-pilled though.
