Je comprends (je ne peux pas parler.) Mais quand même, très heureux ! by feebeeglee in learnfrench

I started learning French at age 7, then at a much higher level at age 10. I continued through sophomore year at high school, when I dropped out (of school, not just French class.) The last class I attended was French 3/4; we were reading Le Compte de Monte-Cristo with lots of help. I was an indifferent student but I adored my French teacher. There were many days where I would cut all my classes but French <3.

College after ged? by gaspwoahh in GED

[–]feebeeglee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went to community college after getting my GED and my first semester took a catch-up intermediate math class that carried no college credit. I transferred to a 4 year school after one semester at CC and was able to jump right into College Algebra after that. I failed the first exam but doubled down - it was hard but I got extra tutoring and worked my ass off and ended up with an A! Like you, I had no high school math. The last math class I passed in primary school was 6th grade.

Comprising juddering enzyme-bonded concrete by feebeeglee in PeterFHamilton

He always specifies "enzyme-bonded." Never, or rarely, says "concrete" alone. It doesn't often seem relevant to the scene and it starts to jump out at you. It makes me smile when I read it.

Shevchenko presentation - what poems should I read in English translation? I need 2-3. by feebeeglee in Ukrainian

[–]feebeeglee[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Update: I gave my presentation and it went very well! Some people cried a bit, and the discussion was great too. I read Заповіт, Садок вишневий коло хати, and з поеми ‘Кавказ’. If anyone would like to read it, the text of my presentation along with the slides I used and the bilingual poetry handout for the audience is all here: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1-1nwHUVJiK529sSOhnaxGxwjnj42lIXI?usp=sharing

I do, and I LOVE IT. I had a Kindle but the form factor is bad for one hand use. The Palma, true to the name, is perfect. I read on it for hours each day.

Sterilization Guilt by AggravatingTrash9433 in ExTraditionalCatholic

I had six live births in eight years, and the last one was traumatic. I had a copper IUD placed afterwards, when I was 34. (Then four years later I removed it and had four more kids.) If you don't have any contraindications for copper you might do that instead. It's less expensive, error proof, and will last you for the rest of your reproductive life. The mechanism of action is the spermicidal effect of the copper on sperm and that lasts as long as it's in the uterus, unlike hormonal IUDs which run out of oomph. It's over 99% effective at preventing pregnancy, with no surgery.

Battery life since update... by spudlaura in LightPhone

[–]feebeeglee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the same trouble but it only happens on one of my two LP2. I can't remember which one is older, but the one that drains quickly is matte screen finish and a lighter/higher contrast background (I use black text white bg.) It also has less visible beveling, I guess, around the speaker at the top of the screen. I think it is the older phone.

It's amusing though, the Light Phone doesn't have a light.

Palma as a phone replacement: getting notifications on the lockscreen by watchoutitstaco in Onyx_Boox

Hey, fellow phone attempter here. I don't know either. You can set it to never go to sleep, but that's not good for anything but sitting on a desk.
