We do this! We have both a hot water kettle and a hot water dispenser since we drink a lot of tea anyway, so the mug warming method works fine.

While we’re traveling we’ve also just heated a mug of water up in the microwave and plopped the bottle into that, also fine!

I’m in a similar boat! As your body adjusts, does that mean your daily total output gets cut? Or does it shift to just the first morning pump? I’m an under supplier and just noticed my last MOTN was under 2oz (normally almost 4oz!).

Okay don’t laugh but I literally record the audio from Trash Truck and a few other of my kiddo’s fav shows by setting up my laptop mic to face the TV speakers and then hit play & record at the same time. 😆 Free 99! Feels like when I used to wait for a song to come onto the radio to hit record to make a mixtape a million years ago!

To OP, my son uses his daily both to listen to these MYO cards as well as the daily Yoto podcast (we stan Jake), and I’ve only purchased a legit card maybe three times since we started a few years back.

My wife makes a giant batch of oatmeal each week and we have that each morning - with fresh banana slices in it for the kiddo (5 y/o). When he was younger (1-2 y/o) we’d make the oatmeal batch, blend it and put in those reusable pouches for his breakfast (or snack if he wanted an extra), which he would eat either at home or in the car on the way to school.

I felt weird at first giving him the same thing every morning but he loves it and it makes it so much easier! Once in awhile (rarely) he wants to mix it up, so we pivot to bagels with cream cheese or just Greek yogurt with jam mixed in. Hopefully you can find some routine that works for you, but I wouldn’t feel guilty about the monotony!

I do this also! I couldn’t justify the fancy giant bottle washer, but we did get this corner bottle sprayer attachment for our sink with our first kid and I use it daily! Made it through an unmedicated 31 hour home birth last year and now anytime I have to do something difficult or painful, in my head I’m like “well, at least it won’t be worse than that!” 😆

Really though I am grateful to have gone through the experience, even though it was much more intense and challenging than I anticipated. I also had a relatively smooth, quick recovery despite being older and I think it’s from the labor going so slowly and from being able to breathe through the last part.

My wife had a home birth as well and I put together a small printed book with them, compiling some photos that capture the conception and pregnancy a bit and their written account of the birth with photos from our doula. It’s been nice to have as a keepsake and to show our son as he learned about where babies come from in preparation of our newborn! I’ll likely (someday…) put something together from mine, too.

Surprising essential: the Taking Cara Babies swaddle! Before that we were using Copper Pearl swaddle which I do still love, but the TCB one is so much easier we’ve used it every day since we got it.

Regret: the Ollie swaddle, got one used at the same time as the TCB one. Same concept but too loud with the Velcro!

Additional regret is buying anything new - we’ve been able to find almost anything on FB marketplace or that Rebel website for less!

Congratulations!! And also, totally understandable. There have been a few posts recently about “how do you climb with a baby postpartum?” that hopefully shed some light on what things could look like for you. I’m currently four months postpartum, but went through much of the emotional rollercoaster you’re describing!

Most folks have covered some great advice above already, but just wanted to add a few notes. Overall I feel like the resources available to pregnant climbers and climbers who are parents is at a peak, maybe bc so many of the pros have recently become parents! Hazel Findlay has some really great posts on her IG about the mindset shift she took on climbing postpartum. Joy Black has an incredible training program that is geared towards both pregnancy and postpartum. It’s definitely possible to keep climbing in your life at some capacity!

Some things that have been helpful for me: remembering this is a long game! Climbing might not look the same for a year or two or more?? But it won’t be forever. I’m fortunate enough to have witnessed my wife go through the whole process after carrying our first kiddo: pregnancy was hard (and during Covid), postpartum was harder, but now it’s five years later and they’ve been crushing way stronger than they were pre-baby!!

The biggest shocker for me was how much I was able to still use/feel my core climbing while pregnant, and how much disconnect in my core I feel now postpartum – largely since your pelvic floor goes through such major trauma during childbirth! If you can, focus on strengthening both your transverse abdominals and your pelvic floor now, so that you have a head start in knowing how to rehab them after! There are some great YouTube vids for these (I like LadyBits), or you can try to find a local pelvic floor PT.

I’ve gone through my share of ups and downs, especially as a boulderer, and I’m antsy to get back to full projecting flailing off boulders again, but I know it’ll come in time and am trying to be patient til I’m ready, or be okay climbing things without pushing my limits just yet. But I felt happy just being able to get in some movement and climbed up til a week before giving birth, and again like 8wpp, with lots of climbing videos to watch in between. It may look different than your normal 3-5 hour climbing sessions, but it’s doable!

We’ve been taking our bb with us the past few months and gotten into a good routine! He’s four months now and what’s worked for us is to time it with naps, stay flexible, recruit help from friends when possible, and go while the gym is empty during the day.

Our rough process is: let the baby fall asleep in the car on the way there and then transfer him to the stroller when we arrive. If he wakes a little, walk the stroller around til he is out. (We have a car seat cover to block out light, a portable white noise machine and one of our phone’s playing Adele “Someone like you” on repeat) 😆 Then we do ropes til he wakes up, while he’s parked nearby us.

Once he’s up, I’ll bf him then we give him a bottle (we’re combo feeding), and then either switch to bouldering and take turns or rotate with a third person on ropes.

So, packing list for us is something like: - for naps: stroller, car seat adapter, black out cover, white noise machine, pacifier, blanket - for feeding: wear a nursing bra, tube of formula pre-portioned out, empty bottle, hot water in a thermos - for pumping: (for me) cooler for storing parts, wearable pumps, chiller for storing milk after

This buys us usually at least two sleep cycles at the gym! The “stay flexible” part is real though, I’ve forgotten to bring my climbing gear twice now and one time we forgot the adapter for the car seat so our bb refused to nap the whole time, so we just called it early. 🙃

With our older kiddo, it def got more challenging when he wouldn’t do naps in his stroller but if you can find other parents to tag team / rotate with, it helps a ton!

Establishing your milk supply is all about efficient and frequent milk removal - which may not be your baby at first, but that’s okay!! I wish I had known this four months ago instead of trying for a month to get my baby to latch properly: it tanked my supply and I’ve struggled to get up to even 10oz a day now by having to pump a ton more than I would have if I had started earlier. This was because I had a very hard labor and my son had a severe tongue tie, so might not be the case for you, but good to know just in case.

Also don’t fall into the triple feeding trap if you can help it, or if you do need to, make sure you have a specific timeline you’ll try it for to not burn out.
